When Athena returned to Kitmore City, the celebration of Advent Sunday was almost over.
She really wanted to come back before Advent Sunday to celebrate Josie's fifth birthday and spend Advent Sunday with her entire family.
But there was nothing she could do.
The ruin that was discovered this time covered a large area and was at the bottom of the sea, making the research very challenging. It was even more difficult to crack the prehistoric traps. In addition, other organizations insisted on joining them after arriving, causing constant disputes along the way. This delayed the research even further.
After the research ended, everyone was exhausted and in a terrible state. She also took a few days to rest before barely managing to regain her energy.
She returned on a private jet and wasn't sure when she would get home. It was only mentioned that she would arrive on the afternoon or evening of the 3rd.
At five o'clock in the afternoon, she first returned to her private apartment and dropped off her luggage before driving to Mid-Level Mountain Garden.
On the way, it felt like everything was fine except for the traffic jams and the crowds.
But when she arrived at the community gates, she sensed that something was off.
She thought, 'It feels like someone is staring at me.'
She slowed down the car, wound down the window, and looked around.
As it was a holiday, there were quite a lot of people and cars around. There were also a lot of hidden spots.
The sky was slightly dark, and it affected visibility. She observed carefully for a while and did not find anything, so she had no choice but to enter the neighborhood first.
Lights were already on in the main building of the villa. Faint sounds of the television and cheerful voices could be heard. One could imagine how warm it was inside.
Athena was not in a hurry to greet anyone. Instead, she parked the car before walking toward the main building.
The door to the main building was open.
She walked into the foyer and changed her shoes, smiling as she said, "Hi, everybody. I'm back."
The initially lively living room instantly fell silent, leaving only the sound of the television.
Everyone turned to look at her all at once.
They then stood up in unison and walked over to welcome her.
"Athena, you're back! Have a seat and rest first. Your dad and I will bring out the food. We can start eating shortly."
"Welcome back."
"You've been away for so long this time. It must have been tough on you, right? Let me give you a shoulder massage."
"Athena, drink some water."
"Have some blueberries, Athena. They are sweet, tart, and really tasty."
It was Josie who rushed over first, presenting a large plate of blueberries with both hands.
Athena took the plate of blueberries with one hand and stroked Josie's head with the other, saying, "I'm sorry. I couldn't make it back in time for your fifth birthday party."
"It's alright." Josie waved magnanimously. "I'm still young. I can still celebrate many more birthdays in the future. Just come to my birthday party next time."
"It's a deal." Athena held her hand and walked into the living room. As she sat down, she looked around. "Is Zayn not back yet?"
"Zayn could have come back before Advent Sunday, but one of the lead actors got injured and needs about a week to recover, which delays the wrap-up."
"Oh." Athena nodded. "We should be able to celebrate Christmas together then."
Alaric rubbed the side of his neck and sighed. "The whole family is here, except for Brandon. If only he could come back for Christmas."
The lively atmosphere instantly turned cold for a few seconds.
Alaric knew that he had created an awkward moment. He quickly patted his chest and looked at Athena expectantly. "Athena, did you notice anything different when you entered earlier?"
The entire family looked at him from the corner of their eyes with an annoyed expression, thinking, 'Here we go again.'
Athena smiled and played along, saying, "I saw a new car in the garage. Whose new car is it?"
Alaric blinked. "Make a guess."
Athena pretended to think seriously for a few seconds. "Maria's workplace is rather far. Is it a car that you all bought for her?"
Maria pursed her lips and smiled. "Nope. I haven't had time to learn how to drive yet."
Unable to hold back any longer, Alaric burst out laughing. He raised his fist proudly. "Of course, it's my new car!"
Athena played along again and asked, "How come you have a new car? Did you win it in a tennis tournament?"
