"I don't care if that's the case," Camila said. "I just don't have the energy for anything else right now. All I want is to make money and pay for my grandma's treatment."
Jasmin waved it off. "Alright, alright. Nothing's hotter than a girl who swaps dating drama for her career."
"Yeah, let's talk later. I'm just getting to the building," Camila said. But the second she looked up and spotted Noel standing beside his car, her voice faltered. She quickly pretended not to see him and walked straight ahead.
"Camila," Noel called out, clearly not okay with being ignored. There was a quiet storm of anger brewing beneath his voice. "What the hell? Are you seriously pretending not to see me?"
The call was still connected, and the second Jasmin heard his voice, she practically burst through the speaker. "Wait, was that Noel? That jerk's not actually there trying to win you back, is he?"
Camila answered, "I don't think so."
Seeing her deliberately ignore him set Noel off. His chest tightened with fury as he stormed forward, snatched the phone from her hand, and ended the call without a word.
His eyes were ice-cold as he glared at her. "Camila, I've seriously been too damn nice to you lately. You think you can just pretend I don't exist?"
Camila stared at him blankly. "Mr. Anderson, can I help you with something?"
The icy and detached look in her eyes hit Noel like a punch to the gut. He felt something slipping away from him fast, and for some reason, panic crept in.
His tone turned sharp with irritation. "Camila, quit the act, alright? A little tantrum is one thing, but don't push it. I'm running out of patience."
Camila stared at him coldly. "If I'm not mistaken, we already broke up."
Noel snorted, "Oh please. You've said that so many times, but when have you ever actually meant it? That whole 'hard to get' game might've worked the first time, but it's getting old."
Camila sneered, "I'm not playing games with you. I gave you the ring back. I said everything that needed to be said. A good ex should act like they're dead. I hope you can manage that much."
Noel scoffed in disbelief, "Oh, so that's how it is? Fine." He nodded slowly, tongue pushing against the inside of his cheek, voice turning mean. "Even if you come crawling back and beg me for another chance, don't expect me to be nice about it."
Camila's lashes trembled. She clenched her fists, then said firmly, "That day will never come." She thought to herself, 'Never.'
Noel let out a cold laugh, jabbed a finger at her with a warning look on his face, and then turned to walk away.
"Wait," Camila suddenly called out.
Noel's lips curled into a triumphant sneer. He thought, 'I knew it. She's just pathetic. I tried being nice but she just ignored me. Now that I'm pissed, she suddenly regrets it.'
He turned around, his tall frame looming, his eyes mocking. "Regretting it already? I'm telling you, Camila, it's too late now. No matter how hard you beg me to take you back—"
"My phone." Camila reached out, her expression ice-cold, voice even colder. "Give me my phone."
Noel snapped his mouth shut. For a second, it felt like she'd slapped him across the face. "You're serious?" he asked.
"You think I'm joking?" Camila shot back.
"Fine. You've got guts, Camila," Noel grumbled, tossing out those words like a curse before storming off to his car.
Camila watched his car disappear down the street, then let out a quiet sigh and picked up her phone from the pavement.
Later that evening, Jasmin came home from work, and after hearing about Camila's day, she was practically fuming.
She launched into a full-on rant, tearing Noel apart before eyeing Camila worriedly. "He's been acting like some rage-fueled psycho lately. I'm seriously scared he might hit you one day."
