When Camila got home, Jasmin was already out of the shower, lounging on the couch, munching on watermelon and cracking up at a variety show on TV.
The second she saw Camila walk in, soaked from the rain with her violin clutched in her arms, Jasmin shot up, took the instrument from her hands, and nudged her toward the bathroom. "Shower first. I'll make you some peppermint tea," Jasmin said.
"Okay," Camila mumbled before closing the door behind her.
Twenty minutes later, she came out toweling her hair—only to find Jasmin staring at the umbrella Johnathon had given her, lost in thought.
Camila walked over, rubbing at her damp hair. "What are you staring at? Something wrong with the umbrella?"
"The umbrella's fine. The guy behind it, not so much," Jasmin said.
"Huh?" Camila blinked, confused.
Jasmin grabbed her wrist and pulled her down onto the couch. "Be honest. A guy gave this to you, right?"
Camila's eyes widened. "How'd you know?"
Jasmin gave her a smug little smile. "This thing screams minimalist bachelor. Cold and aloof, just like the man who owns it."
Camila was momentarily speechless. 'Seriously? She can tell someone's entire personality just by looking at an umbrella?' she thought.
But then she remembered Johnathon's absurdly handsome face and figured he didn't really give off the cold type vibe after all.
Jasmin narrowed her eyes when Camila stayed quiet. "So what, you got another guy in the picture now?" Jasmin asked.
Camila blinked. "What are you talking about? I just got out of one hellhole, you think I'm dumb enough to jump straight into another? He was just helping out. That's all."
"Helping out?" Jasmin clearly didn't buy that for a second. She clicked her tongue. "Doesn't sound that simple to me. I mean, look at you—you're gorgeous. I swear, that guy's definitely got an agenda."
"Don't make it sound like that. Today was only the second time we met. If it weren't for him taking the hit during that car crash last time, I'd probably be dead by now."
"So he's the one who saved your life?"
"Yeah, it was him."
Jasmin got even more excited. "A life-saving meet-cute? Girl, that's fate. You two might really have a shot."
Camila let out a groan, totally done with her.
The next morning, a shrill ringtone shattered the silence, dragging Camila out of her sleep. Half-asleep, she fumbled for her phone and answered groggily, "Hello?"
"Still sleeping, huh?" A familiar voice came through the speaker, instantly jolting her wide awake.
Her eyes flew open. She shot up from the bed like a spring. "Mr. Moone?"
"Well, you still recognize my voice. Guess you haven't forgotten me yet," the middle-aged man on the phone teased with a chuckle. "Got time to grab a bite?"
Camila's eyes lit up. "Absolutely. Whatever time works for you."
"Alright. I'll text you the time and place in a bit."
"Great."
The second the call ended, Camila rolled around in bed like an overexcited kid, unable to contain herself.
"What's going on? Is something wrong?" Jasmin was in the middle of brushing her teeth when she heard the commotion. She rushed in, toothpaste foam still clinging to her lips.
Excited, Camila jumped out of bed and ran over to hug her. "Jasmin, sweetie, Mr. Moone's back in the country. He just called me."
"Mr. Moone?" Jasmin froze, her voice muffled by the toothpaste. "You mean that world-famous violinist you used to talk about nonstop? Brenden Moone?"
"Yes, that's him." Camila was thrilled. "I can't believe he's back and he actually called me. I thought he was still mad at me and just cut me off for good."
"Are you kidding?" Jasmin said. "You're one of his best students. Mr. Moone should be thrilled to see you again."
Camila nodded, determination flaring in her eyes. "I'm gonna be at my absolute best when I see him today."
