Amelia's pov
"Where were you?" I asked Foster as I settle beside Pickett in the backseat. She wanted me there with her, scared of being alone. I held her tight as she trembles and sniffles.
"Those bastards locked me in the bathroom when I saw Pickett." He ground out, the tension in his voice telling me that he was very upset.
" I told you to call me right away if you found her Foster." I sighed, rubbing my hand down Pickett's arm to warm her up.
"I couldn't, they took my phone and didn't give it back." He slammed his hand on his horn and it blared, making a very wild Pickett jump. I grab her, reminding her that she was out of the water and was okay.
"I'll get the phone back tomorrow, let's get Pickett home." I whispered. Foster nodded and started the car and Pickett clung to me like I was her lifeline. I couldn't help but be filled with rage as I remember what happened.
Dayna was a bitch but I hadn't thought she'd go this low. Something could have gone terribly wrong tonight. And Raiden....
I gulped, looking out the window sadly. I can't help but think of how stupid I was to think he was any different than any other guy.
With a sigh, I rest my cheek on Pickett's wet head and wish I could finally just hop into my bed and call it a night.
"Someone's up early," Dad said in the kitchen as he whips up something. Scratch that, tried to whip up something. By the stench that staled the air, the pancakes, deformed pancakes* were now burnt.
I winced, making a bee line for the refrigerator and pulled out some orange juice and some fresh grapes. I popped one in the mouth, turning to face dad. "Yeah. What you doing over there? Trying to make a fire?"
Dad eyes narrowed. "Ha ha. Funny. But if you must know I'm trying to make some strawberry pancakes. It taste good despite the appearance."
"I doubt it," I whispered under my breath.
"What did you say young lady?" His brow lift and I smiled sheepishly as I filled my mouth with grapes. "Not a thing." I uttered with a mouth full.
He shakes his head, gesturing me to sit down at the table. "How did the thing for school go last night?"
My brows furrowed, raking my brain for whatever he was on about. "Huh?"
That arch brow is now almost to his hairline. "That thing for school you were in a hurry to go do last night?Left the dining table in quite a hurry." He reminded.
"Oh," I coughed, opening the orange juice and drinking right from the bottle. I know it was very unlady like but I really don't care.
I looked away from him. "Right. Yeah we got to finish it pretty late. Not sure if you heard when I came in. Hope Emily and Bryson were not too upset?"
Dad shook his head. "Nah they're very understanding. What I don't understand is why you came home drenched from head to toe." He puts off the burner and turn to look at me with a worried pinch between his brows. "Is there something you're not telling me Amelia?"
I swallowed the grape and looked at him. "I-
I swallowed once more nervously. "Kind of fell into the pool at Foster's home."
Instead of the worry lines smooth out, they deepen into his skin. "I don't believe that one bit. Who did this to you?"
I looked away. Why did he know me so well after so little days? I sighed, looking back at him when he calls out my name. "I- I lied. I went to Dayna's party and stumbled into the pool," when he doesn't look convinced I blurted out. "It was a pool party."
He stared at me for a few before letting out a breath. "You didn't have to lie and say you needed to do something for school Amelia. I know teenagers, I was once one. If you needed to go to a party all you had to do was ask."
I smiled, grateful that he wasn't chewing my ears off. "I'll make sure to remember that next time."
He nods, reaching for a plate. "I'm guessing you and Raiden are getting along now?"
Surprised by his question, my eyes widen. It's annoying that my stomach did a flip when his name brushed my ears. I frowned, my lips lined into a tight scowl. "I don't like that guy." I admitted. "And feeling seem mutual."
Dad looks up at me quickly, his eyes searching mine. "Had he said anything last night after he got out of the house?"
I shrugged. "What did he not say." I grumble sarcastically, recalling how much of a jerk he had been last night.
"Anything that-
"I saw a wolf last night." I cut in, my eyebrows furrowing when I saw how caught off guard dad is by my words. "You lied to me about there not being wolves. And what do they feed those things anyway? Why do they seem bigger than normal?"
He looked away, his back now turned to face me. By the stiffening of his body I knew that he hadn't expected to be put on the spot like that. "I only said that to not have you worry," was his faint reply before he turns around with the frying pan in his hand and a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "They're not harmful I promise."
I scoffed. "Should tell that to the huge grey one last night. That thing looked like it was ready to chew me up."
He looks visibly surprised. "Grey wolf?"
I nod. "Yes. If Foster hadn't showed up, I'd be wolf food."
Dad brows furrowed more and I sighed, looking away. "Raiden and I had a little quarrel in the car and I told him to stop and let me off," my lips pursed as I looked away, frowning. "That jerk actually left me."
"Raiden left you alone at night!" Dad bellowed, surprising me. I looked at him with wide eyes. "It's not a big deal." I whispered, and he shook his head, letting down the pan hard on the countertop.
"It is a big deal Amelia, you could, no you were in danger last night and as a soon to be alph-
Dad stopped and tore his eyes away. "I'll talk to his parents and try to set a time and date for you two to talk it out."
My lips part in surprise. "What?!"
He nods, still not looking at me. "It will be beneficial for you two to be on the same page."
My eyes narrowed as I become irritated. "Beneficial for me or for you?" I hissed. "Already using your daughter as a way to look perfect for your boss?" I got off the stool and marched upstairs, ignoring his calls for me to return.
The last thing I want is to talk to Raiden. We both said what we thought last night. There's no going back after that.
