Emily's pov
It has been a day.
Twenty four hours have passed since I told Shawn to wait until I speak to Maya.
Since then, I have been trying to get a hold of Maya but she would not answer my calls and nor answer me through the link.
Her parents mentioned that she was out of town to meet up with her cousin who was from another pack.
But something in the way they looked at me told me that there was definitely more to the story.
"Ooph now would you look at that," Shawn whistled, lifting his wrists to look at his imaginary watch. "Time has run out," He smirked when his eyes landed on my annoyed face.
We were seated in the library, with me trying to get away from all the human girls still talking about my relationship with Bryce.
They'd never understand and that was fine, but sometimes it gets frustrating to hear their words even when I try so hard not to.
" Can you just not," I sighed, biting the end of my pencil.
Bryson was not here, he had an urgent meeting with his dad. And though he wanted me to tag along, he knew it would be best for me to stay seeing as he didn't want to risk me getting in something that can potentially harm me.
This is the longest he has been away from me, but he has left Shawn here to 'protect' me.
I turn to Shawn, pouting and pleading with him using my eyes. "Shawn, can you just give me a few more hours? You know she's out of town-
He snorted, his brows lifted, his eyes glinting with disbelief. "Do you seriously believe that Maya is out of town Emily? Maya does not even speak to any of her cousins! That jealous bitch can never like anyone prettier than her."
I winced. "Shawn would you stop badmouthing her for one second? She probably felt bad that she pushed me in the pool, so she's avoiding me."
The skin between Shawn's brows creased. " Your naivety concerns me sometimes Em,"
I pouted, my shoulders sagging. "Just," I let out a puff of air. "Give me a few more hours please. She's my friend, the least I could do is hear her out."
Shawn seemed to be contemplating before he nod, looking upset that he did. "Okay fine. You have five hours. "
I smiled happily.
His eyes narrowed. "Don't think I'll give you another chance again. This is it Em, five hours. If not, I'm telling Bryson."
The smile fell off my lips knowing he would not hesitate to do as he said.
I nod and we fell into a deep silence.
I return to my reading, biting the end of my pencil as I got to a good part in the book when I felt a sudden pressure behind my head.
Someone from the pack wanted to mind link me.
I opened the link, surprised when I heard her voice.
It sounded urgent, a bit breathless, a bit.....unsettling.
'Em, I need to talk to you in private. It's urgent., come to me' Maya mind linked.
'Aren't you out of town? What's going on Maya?'
' I just really need to speak to you alone Emily, please just give me about ten minutes' Her voice pleaded through the link, rousing my curiosity and concern.
' where are you?'
I looked up and noticed Shawn staring at me with a questioning look.
' I'm a few miles away from the school but I can't be seen at school today, can you come out? We'll meet by the willow tree'
The willow tree was a good distance away from the school and I'd have to go through the foliage...
But she sounded urgent and of course me being me cared little about the warning signs. So I agreed.
' Just give me a few'
I cut off the mind link and looked over at Shawn, he's already staring at me, his eyes questioning me.
" I uh, need to use the bathroom." I said as I got up.
He nod and rise to his feet too, following me out of the room.
"Shawn you don't have to follow me to the bathroom," I said over my shoulder, nervously thinking of ways to escape him.
He would most likely not allow me to meet up with Maya so far away from everyone, especially alone.
"Bryson specifically told me to be like a leech and not let you out of my sight not once."
I sighed and turned around when I'm in front of the bathroom door. "You can't come in the girls bathroom Shawn. And I will most likely take a while."
His nose wiggled. "You're going to do number two aren't you."
I rolled y eyes and stepped into the the bathroom. " Just give me some privacy."
He nod, leaning against the opposite wall. " You got it captain."
I closed the door and whipped around, my eyes landing on the window I was sure I could fit through. I made my way over to it, not knowing that it would be my biggest mistake.
