Alora has been on tiptoes for the past two weeks, she had been feeling so guilty and down after that incident with the king.
The king had gotten angry that day and walked out angrily and since then, she hadn't heard from him. She knew he hadn't forgotten about her and what he felt was merely a slight interest, but somewhere inside her, she felt sad.
She wondered if she was just a play thing to him but she was not suprise though, he was the monarch and she was only a maid like she had told him and there can be nothing between them, but this days, anytime she sees the queen, she would always feel so guilty.
She was in her room after working throughout the day, then she heard a knock on her door which surprised her but she still walked to the door to open it but when she saw the guard, she was shocked.
“Alora?” The guard asked coldly.
“Ye-Yes!” Alora responded in fear.
“The king asked for you. Come with me!” The guard ordered and without waiting for Alora to panic or think more, he led the way which made her bounce after him.
She had thought he would go to a secret place, but he walked to a familiar but unfamiliar place— The palace hall. A place only allowed for the nobles and royalties.
Alora slowed her pace and clenched her fist in nervousness, she swallowed hard but walked forward toward the entrance.
Immediately they walked into the hall, she felt the gaze of many but she did not dare raise her head, then she heard his voice.
“Alora…”
Her heart shook and she instinctively raised her head and that was when she saw him. He sat on the highest seat and looked at her with a gaze filled with majesty, but he was not alone, beside him sat the Queen of the nation, Queen Lola and when Alora looked around, she saw some ministers and elders of the counsel. Her eyes widened in shock as she immediately knelt and bowed her head.
“Greetings, Your Majesties, Greeting Ministers!” She greeted loudly but heard no response so she had to remain that way until she felt her arm being dragged and pulled into a warm embrace.
“This is Alora, the woman I told you all about and the one I would love to take as my Noble Concubine!” King Luis's voice echoed in the room stunning everyone including Alora herself.
She looked at the king like she was looking at an alien, but the king ignored her gaze.
“What?! Never!” Queen Lola jumped out of her seat in anger and rushed down toward them. Her eyes were flashing with disbelief and when she saw Alora’s black face clearly, the look on her face turned to disgust.
“Her?” The queen pointed at Alora as she let out a loud laugh. She continued, “My king, I wouldn’t allow that! How is this ugly thing who seems to be a slave worthy of you?! I am your queen and the rightful one, I should choose your royal concubines for you!” She shouted and clenched her fists and glared at Alora who immediately reached out to push the king away but he held her so tightly.
King Luis chuckled coldly, “And who gave you that right, My Queen?” He asked in a gentle voice.
“My-My King, it’s should be like that.” Queen Lola responded stuttering as she couldn’t help but feel an uneasy feeling overcame her.
“Are you challenging me?” He asked quietly and his eyes became calm.
He looked at the girl in his arms whose eyes were closed tightly at this moment like she was trying to act like all this didn’t happen. He returned his gaze to the queen and smiled charmingly.
“It seems you are forgetting something, my queen. I chose you because you were available and you said you would behave and not expect anything from me. You and your family were too greedy for this position and would agree to anything for it including not having a child for life! You are just a greedy figurehead and you think you can detect for me? My Queen, how dare you?!” Luis’s voice became so cold that it sent shivers down the spines of everyone in the room and they all immediately knelt and bowed.
“I am King! And I own everything, I decide what I want, and who dares to disagree with me?! I will kill them all and banish their entire family, I will destroy them and make them wish they were dead, no matter who they are! Including you, My queen!”
“My King…” The Queen cried out as she clenched her clothes in embarrassment. Her eyes were red and two lines of tears fell from her eyes. She knew she was greedy, but who would say no to power? She chose what others would have chosen but she thought she would be able to tame him, she thought he would fall in love with her with time, and even if he didn’t, she must find a way, but what she hadn’t expected was that he would choose a concubine so soon, and it’s was—
“Then, must the King choose an ugly one? She is not suitable to be the Monarch’s servant talk more of being a concubine!” The queen argued even more.
“And who are you to decide on that? Seems you are overrating yourself.” He said then looked down at the face still hidden in his arms and his eyes turned soft.
“Alora…?” He called gently but she shook her head and bit her lips.
The king looked at her and licked his lips then he raised his head and gave out an order, “Bring in a piece of cloth and some warm water!”
Alora was startled when she heard his order and immediately raised her head, she looked at him in shock and then shook her head, “No! Don’t do this, I don’t want to… My King.” She pleaded in fear.
She looked around and seeing the expression on everyone’s faces especially the queen who had a look that says she wanted to kill Alora at the moment.
“Don’t be scared, Alora. Besides, there is no going back.” King Luis patted her head and then leaned down to kiss her lips which stunned everyone into gaping.
In no time, a guard returned with what he was asked to bring. Alora looked on helplessly as the king wiped her face and slowly, her gorgeous face was revealed.
The king threw the wet pieces of cloth away, looked at her mesmerizing face, then gave a gentle and proud smile. He chuckled and kissed her wet eyelashes then looked up and his domineering gaze scanned the room.
“Are you satisfied?!” He asked then smirked proudly.
“If you are, then start preparing for the ceremony. Prepare it in two days!”
“My king!” The queen shouted and rushed towards him but King Luis threw her a cold glance which shut her up.
“Be careful, if you continue bothering me, I don’t mind her becoming the Queen!”
