Joel fixed his piercing eyes on her face, trying to look through her, but all he saw was a shock face that looked so cute making him want to do some silly things with her, but he calmed himself down. Now wasn't the time.
Anna took a long time to gather her thoughts. She felt so bashful and speechless, she knew he would propose something, but she had thought he would say something like being friends with benefits which she was ready to reject, but this man had surprised her again with his request.
She looked at him deeply and realized he was serious and this made her panic a little. After a while, she managed to calm down then push him away gently before sitting up properly.
“Instructor Joel—”
“Joel.” He interrupted earning a confused look from Anna.
He chuckled and knocked her head gently, “Just call me by my name and remove the titles, Anna.” He explained what he meant gently and this made Anna blush in shyness.
Her face burned red, and her eyes which were hidden secretly twinkled, it was so obvious that she had feelings for him and even when she tried to hide it and not make it obvious, it was still clear to see.
Her head bowed in shyness, her hands secretly scratched the couch, and her tiny voice called out gently in the room,
“Joel…”
The sound of his name being called properly made Joel’s heart burn, he felt like something was tickling his heart and he wished he could dig out his heart to see what it is. His lips unknowingly curled up in a small smile, then he let out a hoarse sigh as a response.
“You said you want us to build an intimate relationship?” Anna asked after she had mustered her courage to look him in the eyes.
“Yes!” He responded firmly and calmly as if he wanted her to know there was no deceit.
Anna looked at him in surprise, then she closed her eyes and balled her fist in a tight grip, and when her eyes opened, Joel was surprised with the firmness and coldness in it, and what came after was like a shock.
“No!”
Her voice was hoarse but powerful, she looked at him resolutely before standing up to dress up well.
“Hey!” Joel called out and caught her arm as she was about to leave. His dark eyes stared at her in confusion and also something—anger.
“What do you mean, Anna? Is this a joke to you?” He asked in a cold tone that also revealed his anger.
Anna furrowed her brows as she looked at her arm that was being held tightly by his muscular hand.
“You are hurting me, Joel.” She cried out in pain which snapped him back to his senses as he dropped her arm and moved back a bit.
“Sorry about that.” He apologized guiltily, then he turned serious immediately as he continued, “But you need to tell me what you mean by all this, Anna. You like me, right? He asked and nodded like he was very sure of his words.
Anna sighed softly.
“Yes! I like you. I have liked you since the first time I laid my eyes on you, and I have been going to yoga class for no other reason than to see you, Joel. But that doesn't mean I would go into a relationship with someone who doesn't like me!” She explained clearly.
“What do you mean? I told you we can try it out, right?” He said in a confused tone.
He didn't know what Anna was talking about. He had told her what he felt and truly, he didn't love her, but they could try out something, right?
“Because if I agree to be with you, I will be the only one pushing this relationship, which I don't want!” She yelled loudly, her voice piercing his ears and hitting his heart, then his mind making him see reality.
Anna's heart was beating so fast but she maintained her steeze and continued without allowing him to say a word.
“I want a relationship where two people are interested and have deep feelings for each other. You are attracted to me and think things can work out because you know I like you, but have you ever stopped to think if you can ever return that feeling?!” She pressed on, her face filled with annoyance at the fact that he had taken her too lightly.
Maybe she was also at fault, she had allowed her feelings to cover her rationality, making him take her emotions for granted.
“Anna…” He groaned lowly, but this time not in anger but in embarrassment after realizing she was telling the truth.
He grabbed a fistful of his hair in frustration, then looked at the determined lady in front of him, and for the first time, he wasn't just looking at her beauty and hot figure, but also something deep.
His eyes surged with different emotions, then without a word, he picked up his phone and walked out, and when Anna had thought he was angry, he suddenly stopped at the door, then turned around to look at her which startled Anna.
He said, “Wait for me, I will be back.”
A month passed by without the couple meeting, it was like nothing had happened between them, but only the people involved knew what they were passing through.
Joel climbed down from his car and looked at the apartment building in front of him, he clenched the flowers in his hand nervously then dusted the imaginary dust off his shirt, before walking toward the building.
His eyes were filled with expectations, and nervousness as he stood in front of Anna’s door. He had prepared himself for a month and only when he knew he was prepared to take a step into a relationship did he come.
He had always been one who played without getting into a proper relationship and he had thought it would always be like that. He had a bad experience with relationships after his parents divorced and left him to a distant relative when he was young, and the funniest side of all this was that the couple he stayed with also got divorced not long after and all this made him unconsciously reject relationships, but—
The deep feeling, the yearning for something deep and intimate, the self-respect and determination he had seen in Anna’s eyes that day made me realize—that Anna is the woman he wants, and if he was to go into something deep, then it could only be Anna!
And here he was, holding a flower to propose again. And this time, he had come with realness and a clear mind.
He pressed the door bell twice before he heard the sound of her slippers, and after a few seconds, her voice sounded asking him who he was, then it opened up.
Anna was shocked when she saw the man she had thought wouldn't come back. She stood in a daze, and when she looked down, she was stunned by the flowers in his hands. Her heart raced and she couldn't keep her mind from going haywire.
“Joel..?” She called nervously.
Joel smiled when he noticed her nervousness, he pushed the flowers to her, and then asked,
“Hello, Miss Single, are you still single for me? If you are, can I have the honor of being a real couple with you?”
Anna was surprised, then a smile appeared on her face, then it turned to sweet laughter that rang in the hall.
“Come in, instructor Joel!”
