ALINA
Luca's hand gripped my waist as we moved to the rhythm of the waltz, his touch both possessive and grounding. The ballroom's opulence faded into the background as I focused on the warmth of his body against mine.
"I need to tell you something," I murmured, my voice barely audible over the music.
He looked down at me, eyes narrowing slightly. "What is it?"
"Adriano... he told me he doesn't want to take over the family business anymore."
Luca's jaw tightened, but he said nothing. I continued, "I think he's just being impulsive. He'll come around."
He nodded once. "We should leave."
I hesitated, glancing around the room. Analide was dancing with Ethan; a sight that still shocked me. Did she know who he really was? Why hadn't the Talciros given him a more suitable role?
"I don't want to go yet," I said. "Let's stay until the end."
Luca leaned in, his breath hot against my ear. "If we don't leave now, I'm going to take you right here in front of everyone."
A shiver ran down my spine. I looked up at him, and he pulled me closer, his arousal evident against my stomach.
"Luca," I whispered, a smile tugging at my lips.
He smirked. "If you don't want me to carry you out of here caveman style, we need to go."
I laughed softly, knowing he was serious. "Alright, let's go."
We made our way to Analide and Ethan. Analide's face lit up as she saw Ethan. I felt a strange sensation, seeing the smile on her face. Was she staring at Luca lustfully?
"Leaving already?" she asked.
I nodded. "Yes, but I'd love to see your latest designs. Maybe in a couple of days?"
"Of course," she said. "I'll send a car for you."
Turning to Ethan, I extended my hand. "We should meet soon to discuss business."
He took my hand, brushing his lips over my knuckles. "I'll be at the club tomorrow. Come by."
As we exited the venue, Lorenzo was waiting by the car. He opened the door for me and discreetly handed me a folded note.
Curious, I unfolded it once seated. Scrawled in aggressive handwriting were the words: "I hate you!"
I didn't need a signature to know it was from Victoria.
I handed the note to Luca. He read it, a muscle ticking in his jaw, before crumpling it and tossing it out the window.
Without a word, he pressed the button to raise the partition between us and Lorenzo.
The moment we were secluded, Luca's lips crashed onto mine.
The pent-up tension from the evening exploded between us. His hands roamed my body, igniting every nerve ending. I responded with equal fervor, losing myself in him.
The drive home was a blur of heated kisses and wandering hands. As soon as we arrived, we barely made it through the front door before Luca had me pressed against it.
His hands lifted my dress, fingers teasing, tormenting. With a growl, he entered me, each thrust erasing the night's earlier frustrations.
But just as I came with a loud scream, he withdrew and came outside me, leaving me aching, yearning. Scooping me into his arms, he carried me to the bathroom.
The warm water cascaded over us as he gently washed away the remnants of the evening.
Tears mingled with the water streaming down my face. I turned away, not wanting him to see my vulnerability.
The weight of my desires, my fears, pressed heavily on my chest. Would I ever have the one thing I'd always yearned for? The very reason I'd married Luca? A family?
“Why are you crying?” Luca asked me with his forehead against my back.
I shook my head and turned, smiling into his face. “Nothing. Tonight has been a long day.”
He took me into our room and tucked me into bed. He kissed my lips softly. “Sleep then. Tomorrow will be another long day.”
I stretched sleepily as he walked away.
The next morning, Valerie left our house. Lorenzo woke me from sleep, a frown on his face. “Mrs. Riot is leaving.”
I ran to her wing of the house. She was rolling her box out. I stopped her. “Where do you think you're going?”
Valerie smiled. “I'm grateful for all your help, but I think it's time I leave.”
“I'm not letting you.” I told her bluntly. After meeting Riot yesterday, I was even more certain that out there was too dangerous for her.
“You can't stop me unless you want to kidnap me.” She said, walking away from me. “Don't worry. I've made new identities for myself and the children.”
I was stunned. Shock crashed onto my face. I took her arm and made her stop. “Stay for one more week.”
Valeria laughed coldly. Her eyes flashed with heat and anger. “Stop feeling guilty, Alina. You have no reason to be. I know you weren't responsible for my family's death.”
Why did she keep bringing that up? I stepped back, kissed Maya and Leo on their cheeks and walked away.
“I forgive you, Alina. And I forgive your family!” Valerie called out to me.
I turned to her angrily, my anger burning hot. “My family doesnt need forgiveness. My father was wrong, but so was your father. We're even.”
I left her standing there, found my phone and called Ethan. I didn't want time to dwell on my feelings, because those feelings were anger and hurt. “Ethan?”
“Yes, Boss?” He answered, sounding groggy with a deep voice.
“Come to the office now. We have work to do.” I hung up and dressed.
I hadn't seen Luca since morning. He was standing beside my car when I went out. He looked majestic and sinfully handsome.
“Get into the car.” He said.
