LUCA
“GET DOWN!”
I jumped, placing my body over Alina's, who was still staring at her uncle.
We fell together, the report of Roberto's gun cutting off suddenly as we hit the floor. Pain exploded from my shoulders and I rolled.
Another gun shot broke out and then erie silence descended.
“Fuck!” I heard Roberto swear suddenly as I stood onto my knees.
“Alina? Are you okay?” I asked, desperate to hear her voice and know she was safe.
She nodded, breathing as she opened her eyes. “I am fine. Are you shot?”
I shook my head and stood, pulling her up. Roberto was lying on the floor, bleeding from a leg wound and another on his chest.
“Shit!” Mikhail was swearing. “I didn't mean to kill him. Damn it.”
Marco and Pietro ran over to us. “Are you shot? Do I call the doctor?” Pietro asked Alina.
“I'm fine.” She responded, still uneasy.
I walked towards Roberto and kicked him in his stomach. Bending beside him, I slapped him till his eyes opened. “Lie back, or I swear I'll get that gun and shoot you dead myself.”
Just then, the door banged open and the men streamed out. Alberto ran over with Enzo beside him.
Roberto blinked blearily, then spat right at my face. The glob landed between my eyes.
I grinned, seeing red as my blood pumped hard. I stood, whipped my gun from my holster and shot him right between his eyes.
The noise of the bullet deafened me for a moment.
I closed my eyes and when I opened them, someone was shoving me, and bullets were flying.
“Luca? Get into the car right now. Marco, drive him away!” Pietro's voice rang out.
Enzo was shooting, as was his father. I fired a shot off, refusing to move. Lorenzo was already leading Alina to the car and once I knew she was safe, I allowed the red devil riding on my shoulders to unleash its rage.
Pietro slammed into me. He gritted out between clenched jaws. “Get into the car right now! That's an order.”
“Fuck you, I do not take orders from you.” I snapped at him.
Pietro fired off another shot at someone I couldn't see. “No, but if these people kill you, they'll tear Alina to shreds. Get into the car!”
I understood at once what he meant.
I turned and ran to the car. Marco opened my door, firing at Alberto who shot back at him, lodging a bullet in his shoulders.
He grunted as he slammed my door shut.
I barely had a second to catch my breath and realize that thankfully we were both alive before Alina slid between my legs, her fingers tearing at my shirt. “Oh my goodness, are you shot? Are you hurt? Let me see.”
Her eyes were wild with panic as her shaking fingers pushed me back against the seat. I took both her hands in mine and pressed the button for the privacy screen.
“Alina, look at me.”
She shook her head, her panic making her movement jerky. She jerked my shirt open, scattering buttons over the car, tears spilling down her beautiful skin.
She wasn't even questioning me about shooting her uncle, all she was bothered about was me. I didn't even feel anything when I shot him. He deserved worse.
But damn! I couldn't deny that I liked being the sole focus of her attention.
Her worry for me made my cock stiffen in my pants. I lifted my hips between her legs and slammed my lips against her, devouring her lips urgently.
She went still in my arms, then kissed me back just as urgently, her tongue twining with mine, duelling as I pulled her shirt off and scooped her breasts into my palm.
She moaned as I sucked her throat, nipping gently as she grinded down on top of me.
I locked her lower lip gently, then pulled away, holding her back when her lips searched for mine and she moaned in disappointment.
She blinked her eyes open. They were heavy with lust, bright and almost feverish. “Why'd you stop?” She gasped.
I brushed a thumb over her nipple. “To let you know that I am perfectly fine. Are you?”
She nodded, shuddering, as her eyes pulled closed again when I brushed the rough edge of my tongue over her nipple. “Oh, my goodness. I was so worried. I thought Roberto shot you.”
I chuckled, dragging her tighter against me. “He's not fit enough to kill me.”
She exhaled and tightened her arms around my neck. “Thank you for trying to save me. But don't do that next time.”
I lifted my brow. “Do what?”
“Trying to block a bullet for me with your body. You're not a bulletproof vest. That bullet could have killed you!” She slapped my shoulder, pain spreading across her face at the thought.
My chest expanded, a thousand emotions slamming into me at once. I lifted her chin, holding her eyes as I said. “I would take a thousand more bullets for you, Alina. You're my wife, and until my last breath, I will protect you. I swear it to you.”
She broke down at my words, sobbing into my shoulders.
When the car pulled up at home, I carried her into her house after leaving instructions with Marco.
“Call Pietro and let me know if he's okay. If he's not, call the doctor and have him brought here. Inform Lorenzo to go back and get Pietro.”
Marco nodded and they drove out. I really hoped Pietro was fine. He had good intentions for saving my life, and he didn't deserve to die.
I dropped Alina and opened the door. Analide was sitting on the floor, playing with Maya.
Beside her was Ethan who was rolling a train back and forth to Leo. Megan sat, watching the two kids.
What the fuck was she doing here?
“Analide?” Alina asked, stumbling over her words in confusion. “What are you two doing here?”
Ethan jumped to his feet, ruffling Leo's hair. He nodded at a bunch of files on the couch. “The land deeds for the warehouse are ready for signing. I brought them for your signature.”
For fuck’s sake, of all the time he could have choose to come over!
Analide hurried over to me and took my arm. “Aren't the kids glorious? Maya is so much fun and she's so smart too. Are they yours?” She asked, her eyes icy even as her lips stretched into a smile.
Her words were strange and they sounded deliberately fake.
“No, they aren't.” I said, dragging my arms out of her clasps.
She smiled radiantly and finally turned to Alina whom she had completely ignored. “Alina! Did you decide if you're coming on vacation with us?”
Alina's face twisted, but her eyes flashed as she smiled at Analide.
I turned to Alina. “What vacation?”
