I sit at the picnic table for a little bit longer while reading, also watching the sunrise and seeing more and more cars start driving through the roads as it's getting time for a lot of people's jobs and now school.
I hear twigs snapping and leaves crunching, I put my book down and turn to see Adrian. He sits down next to me at the picnic table, smiling as usual.
"Hi," he says and I smile, giving a small wave. "You like reading?" He asks as he points to my book, I nod. He grins, thinking for a moment as if he's taking notes. "I think Ashton's skipping today, so Danny will be too since he'll be left without us." I nod and wonder about Divine. "So they might come with us wherever we go, unfortunately." I laugh when he rolls his eyes about them. "Divine, ask her if she wants to skip too?"
I nod right away, grabbing my phone and texting Divine. I texted her just in time, her saying she was just on her way to school. She says she asked her mom, who thankfully said yes-but only for today Divine adds.
"Ashton wants us to pick him and Danny up," he rolls his eyes again, making me laugh. "Will Divine need a ride?" I shake my head, she said she was walking to school today and was already almost here.
Then I remember having to call school so dad doesn't know I've skipped, and it's like Adrian's read my mind. "Oh, do you want me to call school or have you handled it already?" I shake my head, and he nods. I thank him, by typing on my phone a million times, when he calls school again for me. Making me laugh with that horrible fake voice to act like my dad.
We wait on Divine for a few more minutes, her coming up behind me and hugging me. I hug her back as I stand, as Adrian does too. "So, what's it like to skip? I've never done this before." Divine's goody two-shoes side comes out now.
"It's nothing special," Adrian laughs. "What should we do?" We three walk towards his car, Divine lets me sit up front.
"What is there to do around here?" There really isn't much when we live in a small city.
"Uh well," Adrian pauses and looks at me, worry washing over his face. "There's..." He pauses again as I pull out my phone, typing.
What about the skating rink? I'll end up regretting this if we're to go there, I know. But it'll be fun at least. I also don't know why I even ask about it, knowing I don't even have money for the skates or entry fee. It's only like twenty bucks but that's money I don't have and if I did have it I'd need to save it.
"Oh, yeah the skating rink, even though it's still very early. At least there won't be really anyone there," Adrian goes on and I smile, remembering there'd be very little people. I don't really like people, or I do, I just prefer to not be around them.
I look back at Divine, she's sitting on Adrian's side, but she looks worried about going there. And I know why she'd be worried. I look straight ahead, avoiding her gaze as I start typing again, gaining Adrian's attention.
I don't have any money though so maybe just hang at the boring mall or something. He doesn't even read it all I think, before shaking his head and starting the car.
"Don't worry about it, Liv." Him and that damn nickname. "Divine, do you have money? I'll pay for-" She cuts him off before he can finish.
"I've got it." He nods, driving to Ashton or Danny's house, I don't know which one. I feel like shit again too, not being able to pay. I was too caught up in thinking about fun at the skating rink to think it through.
We pull in front of a nice, big house. It's not huge but it's not exactly small, either. It is in one of the nicer neighborhoods too. Ashton walks out of the house, it's his.
He pulls open the door, I catch his smile when he sees Divine and sits by her in the middle, giving Danny the other seat. I'm confused why he didn't just wait til we got Danny though, but whatever.
Something's definitely forming between Divine and Ashton.
"So, are we doing anything?" Ashton asks no one in particular.
"Going to the skating rink," Adrian tells him and he nods.
The ride to Danny's house is quiet, though I hear Divine and Ashton saying things to each other every now and then.
Compared to Ashton's house, Danny's is much smaller-not tiny but just right. It looks more welcoming, too. Danny gets in the car, looking like he literally just rolled out of bed with his brunette hair very messy and him still fixing his shirt.
"What's up fucker-" Adrian cuts him off as Danny says that towards Ashton.
"Don't you two even start," Adrian scolds them as Ashton goes to say something back. I laugh looking out the window as Adrian starts driving again.
"If we're doing something can we get food first? I'm hungry," Danny says.
"You're always hungry," Ashton says.
"I like food. Leave me alone." Ashton and Danny almost start another one of their arguments before Adrian can stop it.
"And I like quietness at this time of the morning, don't start." I laugh looking back at Divine knowing he was just happy not even an hour ago talking to us.
The drive to the skating rink is quiet, shockingly. I think we're all still waking up, at least they are. Considering I've been up since 3am and all, I'm plenty awake, mostly. When Adrian parks I'm not surprised seeing the rink isn't even open yet, we have another hour until it is.
"Well now what?" Danny's the first to ask.
"We wait?" Ashton says in a 'duh' tone.
"I'll sleep, don't mind me." I grin when Divine lays her head on Ashton's shoulder, blush taking over his cheeks.
Adrian rests back in his seat, seemingly ready to sleep too. He sees Ashton and Divine then too, smiling towards me as I do the same.
"Danny if you're going to sleep, please don't fucking snore-or talk," Ashton begs. I'm thankful Adrian's car is roomy, well I'm in the front seat so it's the ones in the back who should be thankful, when it seems like everyone just wants to go back to sleep despite being in the car.
"I do not snore, or sleep talk!"
"Yes you do," Adrian says and Danny scoffs.
"Adrian you have no room to talk, you talk in your sleep too." Danny laughs obnoxiously as Ashton calls Adrian out, blush of embarrassment covering his face.
Divine's already passed out, still on Ashton's shoulder. I see she can still sleep through anything and anywhere like she did when we were little. Ashton can't seem to bother trying to sleep for a bit, staying on his phone.
"Seriously," he mumbles as Danny also falls asleep on his shoulder. Me and Adrian laugh up front, me on my phone even though I have nothing to do-I pull out my book. Adrian gets on his phone too.
"Are we really just gonna sit here until they open?" Ashton asks after a couple of minutes.
"What else is there to do?" Adrian asks and he nods, knowing there really isn't much else to do right now.
Probably an hour or more passes I realize finally once I finish my book. Adrian's passed out now, Ashton is too, his head leaning on Divine's making me smile. I wonder if I should wake them up or not, seeing another car parking now and a dad and daughter getting out, she's maybe four years old.
Oh to be that age again.
Adrian mumbles something in his sleep making me jump, not expecting it. I laugh as he continues mumbling incoherent things. Ashton wasn't lying when he said he does talk in his sleep-I can hear Danny's snoring now too.
I poke Adrian's arm as he mumbles something else, not really wanting to touch him. Not because of anything bad, I just don't like touch for obvious reasons-at least not from people who aren't Divine or her mom or Mrs. Scarlett. He jumps in his sleep and I can practically hear his heart beating now.
"Jesus don't do that," he playfully scolds as I laugh, pointing his phone that's lit up with the time. It's now 8:30am. "Oh, guys wake up." None of them wake up, he groans. He just barely reaches back to poke Danny in the leg and he jumps awake, making Ashton wake up from the sudden movement and then Divine.
"It's not nice to scare people when they're sleeping," Danny grumbles. Ashton rubs his eyes and Divine looks confused.
They weren't even asleep for an hour yet act like they sleep for twenty years.
"They're open," Adrian points to the building. "Let's go." Me and him get out of the car, everyone else taking their time making Adrian signal for me to follow him. My headaches completely gone now, surprisingly. My neck is still sore which I expected, my ribs are just the same.
The employee's look annoyed when me and Adrian walk in, probably confused why anyone is here this early especially on a weekday. The dad and daughter I seen are skating now together.
"What size will you need?" I hold up seven fingers, just as everyone else finally walks in. He nods as he tells the person up front and pays, me still feeling shitty about not being able to pay as always.
"Aren't you kids supposed to be in school right now?" The cashier asks us and Adrian shrugs in response.
One of the employees hands me and Adrian our skates, asking everyone else for their sizes and all. Me and Adrian head over to some of the benches by the actual skating part, sitting down to put them on. I pull my phone out, Thank you Adrian.
He shakes his head after reading it. "Stop thanking me, Liv." He smiles and I see his dimples.
Adrian is pretty. With his dimples, the brown fluffy but straight hair parted in the middle, perfect lips and nose, his brown eyes-people shit on brown eyes for some reason but I love them-perfect jawline, his style in clothes, the rings he wears. Oh, the rings.
Why am I seriously going into depth with his looks, oh my god.
I look away before he can catch me staring at him. He stands, already having the skates on, meanwhile I'm still tying the laces on mine. He stands with no trouble either, then I stand and already almost fall, my hands immediately going to the rails as Adrian laughs.
Everyone else makes their way over, getting their skates on. While we wait for them all I watch the little girl and her dad, biting back my jealousy. The things I would do to have a relationship like that again with dad.
I hear Adrian talking to Ashton and Danny, Divine coming over by my side struggling in her skates too. "You okay?" She asks, looking towards the little girl and her dad too. I nod quickly, seeing the guys going out to the rink now.
Divine still manages to be better at simply walking in the skates than I am as I hold onto her arm, barely balancing on the stoppers. As soon as we're in the rink, I nearly fall already and my hands go right back to the railings.
"Need help?" Divine asks, holding her hand out for me while smiling. I take her hand and we both look pathetic as we try skating compared to Adrian and them.
Even the little girl is doing better than us.
Me and Divine give it just a few minutes before going back to the rails after nearly falling a million times but thankfully catching each other. The guys, Adrian most of all, skate perfectly. They have to hang out at skating rinks a lot or something. Danny goes to what I assume is the bathroom as Adrian and Ashton come over to us.
"You guys are horrible at skating," Ashton says, making Divine flip him off. They seem to take a break for a minute too with us, but once Danny's back, complaining he's thirsty, they're gone.
And Ashton steals Divine away from me so I go to Adrian and Danny.
"Hey Liv," Danny says as I manage to get over to them without falling. Which was damn near impossible, might I add. "Imma take a break again now." Danny skates back over to the benches, I hold back my laugh as he horribly winks at Adrian.
But why is he winking?
"Let me teach you how to skate," Adrian laughs as he holds his hand out-seeming nervous also. I don't take his hand though and regret it when seeing his frown when he pulls back. I didn't mean it in a rude way or anything of course, I just can't do touch like that.
Adrian refrains from the frown, going back to his usual smile. He still gives me tips and all that, trying to get me to be at least somewhat better at skating. It does nothing though when I actually fall at times now, not having Divine to catch me. He tries to catch me but it's too late each time, I'd probably just push him away anyways.
As I'm laying on the floor that I don't even wanna think of the nasty shit that has fallen on it after I've fallen once again, I smile seeing the dad and daughter still here happily skating-I'm still jealous of that little girl.
Daddy issues much?
Seriously? Shut up.
I look over to Ashton and Divine happily skating together. Divine almost falls but he catches her. They'll definitely end up together. I see Danny going over to them making Ashton groan and they bicker a bit, no surprise.
"You okay?" Adrian asks, bringing me back to reality. Normally he'd laugh for a few seconds, make sure I'm okay, then laugh again. But there's no more laughing. Probably because I've just been on the floor for longer than usual.
I nod quickly and stand back up. I'm surprised I really am mostly okay, I mean my ass is sore but other than that I'm fine. As long as I ignore the pain surging through my ribs and neck.
This time Adrian skates in front of me, leaving his hands out in case I do wanna hold on. I don't. I see Divine's already gotten better at skating, me though? Still shit. I don't know how people do this, I envy them.
We start skating a little faster, I'm confused how Adrian's doing just fine skating backwards when I can't even do this shit frontwords. But then we go too fast. And I fall. This time into Adrian, making us both fall down.
I groan when we land on the hard floor and I feel horrible when I land on Adrian, literally on top of him. But from that I feel my ribs starting to ache badly again, unable to ignore it now. I move too slowly when trying to get off him, trying not to cry from the pain even though I'm sure Adrian's doesn't feel great either so I need to suck it up.
I feel his hand on my back that makes me jump, our faces just merely inches apart. His cheeks heat, no, his entire face does. "A-Are you okay?" I nod quickly, trying to get off him but the pain makes me move slowly.
"You guys look like you're making out from this angel," Danny says from behind us making me practically throw myself off him not caring about the pain now.
I'm so embarrassed.
I land on my back that only makes things worse. Ashton and Divine come up to us, Ashton asking, "You guys good?"
Adrian nods and looks at me, silently asking again if I'm okay. I nod as always and sit up, Divine offers me her hand and I take it hoping Adrian isn't offended. Adrian stands up fine on his own and then I see Divine's worried look that makes me look away knowing what she's thinking.
"So, can we get breakfast or something now?" Danny finally breaks the silence.
"Fine," Adrian grumbles.
