I was trying to catch up with school and then maybe go to college after a gap year probably, I write for mom as we've been catching up more. I'm so fucking happy to hear that I won't be moving schools or anything when I go to live with mom now.
"That is so good, I'm proud-" Moms cut off by a knock on the door.
"Hey, Liv." It's Adrian. He walks over to me, looking at mom suspiciously, leaning down to kiss my head. He's probably looking for Admira too who has gone to get coffee. "Who's this?"
"Is this your boyfriend?" Mom asks me first with a huge smile on her face. I had mentioned having a boyfriend a couple times.
"Yeah," Adrian says as I nod happily. "I'm Adrian, who are you?"
"I'm Olivia's mom." Adrian looks back and forth between me and mom skeptically, for some reason. I smile at him and wince but trying to assure him it's fine.
"Oh, okay. Well... nice to meet you, Mrs?" He doesn't at all know what to say, sitting beside me on the bed.
"It's Ford but you don't need to call me Mrs anything, it's too formal. Call me Lauren." She holds out her hand and Adrian shakes it, nodding, just as Divine and Ashton walk in.
"Hi, Liv!" Divine says, eyes widening when she sees mom. She takes a few seconds, trying to figure out if it's really her I'm sure. "And... Lauren. Oh."
Mom smiles brightly, standing to pull Divine into a hug as Divine lets it happen, still shocked. Mom pulls away and smiles while looking between me and Divine. "Gosh, you've both grown up so much."
"Yeah, that's kind of what happens when you leave for years at a time," Divine says bluntly and Ashton chokes on his water, Adrian holding something back. I hit Divine's leg the best I can from in the bed, causing her to mutter a 'Sorry.'
After a horrible minute of awkward silence mom starts a conversation, a sad look on her face after what Divine said. "So, who are you?" She asks Ashton happily.
"I'm Ashton." He shrugs and Divine sits next to him. He whispers something in her ear and she nods, looking at mom.
"He's our friend," Divine motions to me and Adrian too, not hesitating to answer her questions. "And my boyfriend." I smile, wondering when they finally started dating.
"Where's Danny and Noah?" Adrian asks Divine and Ashton, moms face wonders at Noah's name but quickly changes. There could be like a thousand different people named Noah here.
"Danny's mom needed him home and Noah's dad wanted something, I don't know." Ashton shrugs again, wrapping an arm around Divine.
A few minutes later Sienna walks in, motioning for mom to follow her again and I see Admira in the hall also. Mom smiles at me before walking out, leaving me with Adrian, Divine, and Ashton.
"Your mom's just... back?" Divine asks the second she's out of the room and I nod.
"What's going on with that?" Adrian asks, looking to where mom is with Sienna and Admira.
She's getting full custody of me, I write and they all nod, seeming skeptical. Why, is beyond me.
"After leaving you for all those years?" Adrian asks and Divine nods, agreeing. I hesitate, knowing how bad it might look to them, nodding. "Are you happy she's back?" I nod at Adrian. "Good."
A few minutes later Amy's in again to check my vitals and then I'm being taken to check on everything with my lungs and all. I can tell Adrian's nerves go up about this, but I'm perfectly fine as I can finally have the tube for my collapsed lung out, leaving a slight scar a little under my armpit. I'm still on oxygen though, my chest burning with each breath. Admira is at my side the second I'm back.
"They're going to go through the paperwork with your mom in a few." The ones that'll give her full custody. "Are you sure this is really what you want?" Admira is skeptical about it all, after my moms been gone for years I would probably be too, but this is what I want so I nod.
"Olivia?" Mom walks back in, showing some paperwork with Sienna, a smile on her face. Adrian is back by my side, holding my hand. Sienna goes over everything with me and mom as Admira, Adrian, Divine, and Ashton wait for us.
"Well, you've got full custody," Sienna announces to me and mom, making us happy.
No more dad, at all.
Even though I'm still terrified considering dad isn't even in jail at least yet as they still haven't found him. But now if he even tries taking me, that can be a kidnap charge so...
Too much time passes as mom keeps catching up on everything with me along with Divine and Admira, even learning stuff about Adrian and Ashton too since she now knows they're going to be around a lot. It gets closer and closer to the time where visiting hours are over and I don't want them to be, not yet or ever for that matter.
I don't want to be alone anytime soon because with all of them I'm distracted from everything, not all in my head and worrying and being terrified with reality. I know sleeping is going to be so fucking difficult again tonight, filled with nightmares and all.
I get sad thinking about dad now. Dad's are supposed to protect their kids from the cruel ass world but instead he ended up being the cruelest thing in the world for me and Hadley. I don't even really want to give him the privilege of being called dad anymore, he's just some dude I share DNA with. He must've still loved mom somehow if he really was upset over her leaving, even though he's the one who cheated. Or it was all just an excuse to hurt me and Hadley and he really does have something wrong with him-seriously.
I get flashbacks to the day Hadley committed suicide, not enjoying them at all. Dad didn't even really care, he wouldn't even call 911 when I found her body after she overdosed and yelled for him to call since I didn't have a phone yet-I had to go to a neighbor's house to get to calling 911.
I really wish I knew why he turned into this fucking monster, because it can't just be over mom leaving. I've said it many times that I understand that he'd be upset over his wife leaving, anyone would be, but to take it out on his kids for years to the point one takes their life and then nearly kills the other? There's seriously something wrong with him.
"You okay?" Adrian asks me just as a tear rolls down my cheek that I quickly wipe away, thankful when no one else is paying attention to me as Divine talks about something with my mom. "What's wrong?" I shake my head and he doesn't believe me, but he says nothing and kisses my head. "You can talk to me, Liv. Always."
I sign thank you and he takes my hand into his, pulling it away from my chin and laying it in my lap so I can't say thank you anymore. He pushes the hair out of my face to kiss my temple now, comforting me plenty and all the flashbacks go away, bringing me back to the present.
Then too quickly, visiting hours are over. Divine and Admira give me hugs, neither of them wanting to leave, Ashton just smiling and nodding at me. I still wonder about what he was going to tell me. Adrian and mom stay though, them really not at all wanting to leave.
"Bye, Laura," Ashton says as he'd been getting her name wrong.
"It's Lauren," mom corrects with a warm smile and he shrugs as he wraps an arm around Divine.
"Close enough," he muttered.
"I'm going to give you my number, I'm sure you can use the phones here somewhere, if you need anything at all tonight, okay?" I nod at mom as she knows I don't have a phone now. She stands with a sad smile as Adrian doesn't make a move to leave at all. I make a heart with my hands, pointing to me then to her in an attempt to say I love you and I'm thankful when she understands. "I love you too, Olive."
Hearing those words from my mom for the first time in years leaves me happier than ever.
"Your mom is really nice," Adrian says once mom's gone and I smile. "It's really good that she's back." I can tell there's more he wants to say though that he doesn't let come out of his mouth. "I'm happy for you."
I lay my head on his chest, cuddling up to him as I don't want him to leave ever but I know he has to so I take the little bit of time left I can take with him. He kisses my forehead, letting his lips linger. I know he doesn't want to leave either.
"Danny said he's for sure going to come see you tomorrow." I nod with a smile. "Something's going on with Noah at home I think, I don't know what though." Now I frown, worrying about the kid. "When do you think you're getting out of here?"
I shrug, really not knowing when. They said it could be another day or another week, it just depends on how my body heals. But for now my body is healing on track of how it should be, they told me, so it's looking good.
"How's the book so far?" I smile as he picks up the book he brought me and I nod, giving a thumbs up and saying it's really fucking good. "Good... I really am going to read it right after you then." I grin, enjoying that he's going to read more of the books like I read. "But... I guess I've got to get going now."
I wrap my arms tightly around him in a hug even though my body hurts so fucking bad in that movement, as he wraps his arms around me too. We stay like this for a few minutes, until Amy comes in to remind us, as it's passed eight now when visiting hours ended.
"I'll be back in the morning, or after school," he tells me as he kisses my head once again. I surprise him when I pull him in to kiss his lips, missing the feel of his lips on mine. "Don't do that or I won't leave." I giggle as a stupid smile takes over his face, him slowly going to the door, completely hesitating.
"Bye, baby." I wave at him as my face flushes, even if you can't see when my face is bruised dark purple and blue.
And now I'm left to my unbearably dark mind and nightmares.
