Instead of answering, I asked, "Where's my family's bracelet?"
Landon froze, light and shadow flickering in his eyes.
My heart clenched, and my voice caught with emotion: "Answer me. Where is the bracelet?"
Landon sighed in frustration: "Savannah took it—I just forgot to get it back. I’ll give her a call now."
The rustling sounds echoed in my head again. I closed my burning eyelids and waited quietly.
Suddenly, after hanging up the phone, Landon's gaze fell on my wrist.
He said slowly, "Where's the red string I got you?"
"It broke."
Landon's breath caught. Seeing my indifferent expression, he felt inexplicably suffocated.
Half an hour later, Savannah rushed over, sweat beading on her nose.
Landon's eyes flashed with concern, his tone slightly reproachful.
"You didn’t need to hurry so much… look at you."
Savannah bit her lip and said quietly:
"I just didn't want Sierra to blame you."
Landon touched her head affectionately, as if to say she'd worked hard.
Savannah stuck out her tongue playfully and walked toward me.
"Sierra, It’s totally on me—I begged Landon for the bracelet. Please don’t blame him, You’ve always been so understanding."
Savannah was always good at playing the victim, making me look unreasonable with just a few words while positioning herself as the poor, considerate sweetheart.
But I was too tired for games. I simply held out my hand: "Give it to me."
Savannah smiled sweetly and pulled out an elegant little box, extending it toward me.
My heart pounded as I eagerly reached for it.
But the next second, just as the box touched my fingertips, it suddenly dropped.
I lunged to catch it, but it was too late.
Inside the opened box, the turquoise bracelet had cracked from the fall.
Savannah looked panicked, but when she leaned close to my ear, her voice slithered out like a snake's hiss:
"What I can't have, you can't have either."
Looking at her triumphant eyes, my head buzzed and I slapped her across the face.
Savannah collapsed to the ground, tears streaming down her face.
"I deserve it, Sierra. If you’re angry, take it out on me—I won’t blame you."
She reached for the broken bracelet pieces on the floor.
Seeing her continue the act, my blood boiled with rage.
I reached out to push her away, but the next second, Landon gripped my wrist tightly and said in a low voice: "Enough!"
The veins on his forehead bulged with fury.
But when he met my desperate, tear-filled eyes, his tone finally softened.
"Stop crying. I'll buy you another one. Savannah didn't mean it."
He gently placed his hand on my head to comfort me, but his words were all about making excuses for Savannah.
I clutched the broken turquoise bracelet tightly, my whole body trembling uncontrollably.
Blood flowed from my palm, forming shocking red flowers on the floor.
Landon's pupils contracted as he immediately pried open my hand.
His face darkened as he looked at my bloody palm. He was about to scold me furiously when my vision went black and I collapsed.
I slept heavily and woke up with a splitting headache.
My throat felt like razor blades were cutting through it, so I dragged my heavy body out to get some water.
Just as I reached the corner, I saw two figures standing at the end of the dim hallway.
