Savannah's voice sounded mournful, as if she still hadn't recovered from the earlier conflict:
"Are you sure it’s okay if I sleep here? I mean… won’t Sierra be upset?"
"This is my house. I call the shots."
Though Landon spoke softly, his tone was assertive.
This feeling of being protected filled Savannah with immense joy.
Suddenly she remembered the past.
She said with emotion: "Landon, seriously—if you hadn’t made up that whole story about my family saving your life, I would've been the one suffering for six years."
Landon's face stiffened slightly, then he let out a small sigh.
"I hurt her, yeah. But spending the rest of my life trying to fix it—that should be more than enough."
His tone was casual, but with a hint of melancholy that satisfied Savannah's vanity completely.
She couldn't control herself and threw herself into Landon's arms, standing on her tiptoes to kiss him passionately.
Landon froze for a moment but didn't refuse.
Watching their entwined figures, I felt like I was falling into an icy abyss, my legs so weak I could barely stand.
Back then, Landon had insisted over and over that Savannah's father had saved his life.
He said people should repay their debts, so I willingly became the scapegoat.
In the end, it was all just a casual lie.
My heart rate spiked suddenly.
Through my blurry vision, I heard Savannah ask breathlessly:
"What if she finds out?"
Landon's expression hardened slightly, then he slowly shook his head.
"She won’t find out. And if she ever does, who cares? You’ve seen what she’s become—I’m still the best she can do."
"Besides, I won't let her go anyway."
Savannah's fists clenched instantly. Not hearing the answer she wanted, her eyes flashed with resentment.
"I’m just worried about you, Landon. She’s not the same anymore—and honestly, you deserve better. People are already whispering."
"Stop."
Before she could finish, Landon interrupted her impatiently.
He seemed to hate this topic and pulled away from her.
He said coolly: "Go to bed. I'll check if Sierra's awake."
I returned to bed with ice-cold hands and feet. Landon stood behind me for a long time.
Seeing that I appeared to still be asleep, he reached out and touched my forehead.
After a long sigh, he turned and left.
Silent tears soaked my pillow. As the door closed, I finally couldn't hold back my sobs.
When I woke up the next day, there was a delicate turquoise bracelet and a glass of room-temperature milk on the nightstand.
Drinking milk in the morning had been my habit before prison. In our five years together, he'd never forgotten.
I looked at them for two seconds, then picked up the turquoise bracelet and headed straight to a jewelry auction house.
The bracelet was rare and sold for eight figures.
After leaving the auction house, I clutched the bank card and got in a car to the airport.
Over the years, the only people who cared about me were my grandparents.
I was so deep in thought, I barely noticed I have arrived at my destination.
Just as I was boarding the plane, my phone started buzzing like crazy.
I stared calmly at Landon's name and pressed decline.
Since Savannah loved framing people so much, I'd sent her a little gift too.
After taking a deep breath, I boarded the plane with a sense of relief.
