Landon suddenly stopped in his tracks, looking at her with disgust.
He couldn't understand why she was still so greedy when he'd already given her so much.
His temples throbbed. Before he could explode, he grabbed Savannah's arm and pushed her out the door.
Tears streaming down her face, Savannah desperately squeezed back through the door before it could close.
"Landon, I swear it wasn’t me! You can’t believe what they’re saying! I didn’t do it—I didn’t!"
Savannah couldn't understand what was so great about Sierra. After six years in prison, she was practically an old maid.
She wasn't even as pretty as before, and Landon barely looked at her.
How could he be this angry?
She refused to accept it. After six years of being spoiled, she'd rather die than go back to that backwater place.
"Landon, please—just look at me! If you want to get married, I will! I’ll do whatever you want, just don’t walk away!"
A flash of impatience crossed Landon's face: "I’ve told you before—I only see you as a sister."
But was that really true? Actually, no. Landon knew it perfectly well.
He and Savannah both came from small towns. They'd witnessed each other's embarrassment and poverty.
Even though many years had passed and his wealth could last three lifetimes, when he saw Savannah, he felt instantly transported back to that insecure, down-and-out version of himself.
He could compensate her, care for her, like he was compensating that once-impoverished version of himself.
But marry her? He couldn't do it.
He wanted to marry Sierra. That decision had never changed.
It's just that she used to be so bright and confident. Even when she wasn't looking down on him, seeing her smile would still wound something deep inside him. He knew his psychology was twisted.
But he couldn't help himself. He wanted to drag her down a little, then a little more.
Until she fell into the mud, standing in the mire covered in filth just like him.
Only then would he feel satisfied.
So when Savannah got into trouble, that thought poisoned his mind like venom.
He knew doing this made him no better than an animal, but he did it anyway.
Landon closed his burning eyelids and finally threw Savannah out completely.
The piano still stood in the center of the hall.
Tears welled up in Landon's eyes, because he'd never told Sierra the truth.
He'd bought that piano for her.
He walked to his study like a lost soul, staring blankly at a photo of the two of them on his desk.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, he pulled open a drawer.
Inside lay a thick stack of photos, every single one of Sierra during her time in prison.
Though he'd never visited her, he'd checked on her situation every month.
Landon stared at the photos, a nameless rage rising in his chest.
For a moment, he almost wished she was still in prison. At least then he could still control her.
But now she’d run away? Where could she go?
She’d never had a real bond with her family in London. The only people she’d ever been close to were her grandparents. And now, they were all she had left.
Landon clenched his fist and punched the window.
With a sharp crack, the glass splintered—and so did the haze clouding his mind.
He grabbed his phone and called his assistant without hesitation.
“Find the address of Sierra’s grandparents’ house.”
The person on the other end said something, but Landon cut them off with a growl.
“Right now!”
