Becoming a Dragonborn and a thane had its benefit but also required her to always show a strong and well-reserved composure. Once the feeling got a hold, she knew she would be as good as dead. She told herself many times...but she could not defeat her own dangerously trusting self. She felt stupid she ever trusted him.
Ammra let out all of her frustration in the battle. Luckily, she managed to not shift into a werewolf. After some battle, the mission turned out to be a success. Ammra managed to save all the children and returned to Markath. It was midnight.
"Thanks for helping me, Argis." Ammra thanked her housecarl.
"It was a great honor to fight beside you, my thane."
"I saw you were injured and did not have the chance to heal. How was it now?"
"It was fine. Just some small cut and bleeding."
"Put off your chest plate and let me see." She disregarded what he said. After Argis did as she said, Ammra healed the wounds. "Get yourself some rest," Ammra told him.
"What about you, my thane? I will only rest tonight after I make sure you have everything you need." He said politely. Ammra just sighed. All she need was a space to calm herself down.
"Say, what do you do when you are in doubt?" Ammra asked out of the blue. Argis got that his thane had something that troubled her.
"I would keep on doing what I believe." He replied. "I doubt I could be a warrior many times. But I kept on practicing until eventually, I become what I am now."
Ammra chuckled. "I guess you are right."
"What troubles you, my thane?"
"I am planning on something." Ammra decided to share though she wouldn't get into great details. Additionally, she just found out Argis was quite nice to talk to despite his bulky posture. "I am doing something that nobody hasd ever done before and I doubt it will be successful." She paused. "But I had a strong feeling that I need to make it a success and find out..." there was a long pause.
"What do you try to find out?"
"The truth." She said but Argis frowned. Ammra chuckled. "Sorry, I was just pressured. But talking to you lifted my spirit. Once again I want to thank you." Ammra walked to her room. Little did she know that Miraak was watching everything from the doorway of his room.
Not so long after, Miraak heard someone knocked on his door. Ammra was cladded in his nightdress stood before him. "Let's go." She said then lead the way to the temple of Dibella.
The priestesses had been expecting them because Ammra assigned a messenger to notice her visit—one of the Thane's privilege. They thought it was going to be normal rituals like any other, but they were totally wrong. The priest said in order to get Dibella's special blessing, the Goddess needed to 'visit' Ammra and 'examine' her.
"How is that supposed to happen?" she asked.
"Soak yourself in the holy water as we invited Lady Dibella to see you." She paused. "While she is visiting you, the blessing will be given at the same time, so you can prepare the blood and primal soul gem ahead. We will place it in the altar."
They did as what the priestess said then Ammra handed the chalice to another priestess.
"The blood of two different persons is in this ritual. Please take this man to the preparation room for he would be a witness." She tuned to Ammra. "While you, my child, will be the center of tonight's ritual."
"How did you know this will work? It was not like this when I asked blessing from other divines." Ammra protested even though she followed where the priestess walked.
"Lady Dibella is different. And we know the best way that of her favor."
Meanwhile, Miraak followed the priestess to the second floor of another room. Below him was a large pool with a few lanterns, candles provided limited illumination. Flowers were scattered on the floor—arranged in certain places as means of the rituals.
The priestess helped him to put on another type of robe with a cloak for the sake of rituals." "Have a seat here and wait. During the rituals, you may not utter a single word." He told him.
The chair was set to have a perfect angle to see what was happening on the lower floor.
Not so long after Miraak saw Ammra walked in. He could tell from her silhouette. He couldn't really tell the details due to the darkness with poor illumination.
The next thing was totally a brand-new experience for both of them. Miraak was watching the silhouette as the priestess stripped her. They put off her robe piece by piece until they wrapped her only with a piece of cloth like she always did after her bath. He held his breath without him knowing.
Meanwhile, Ammra let those priestesses did whatever they wanted. They dressed her in a special robe, then took her to a room, then got her naked, and wrapped her again in a towel. She just wished it all ended soon because the temple turned to be oddly chilly. She shivered.
But Miraak saw one of them handed Ammra a cup from which Ammra drank. Then she stepped into the pool. Other priestesses began to enchant the spell for Dibella. Others began pouring water from a large silver jug onto Ammra's head.
All in sudden, the wind blew off the candles and lanterns, making the room completely dark. Miraak heard her gasping as the magic circle appeared below the chalice at the altar. While at the same time, the pool water began to glow dimly. Both Dragonborn felt her Magica was being absorbed to fuel the primal gemstone.
At the same time, Ammra could see many beautiful maidens were bathing her. While inside the pool, behind her, she felt a presence that might be Dibella herself started to embrace her. "Find the next blessing in another source of my power." She whispered. Within a snap of a finger, Ammra returned to herself.
"The ritual is complete. Lady Dibella has visited and examined you." The priest said. "We will purify the gem that you want. Meet us in the main hall." One priestess said while the others lit more candles and lanterns, making the room bathed in light.
Ammra enjoyed her brief moment of silence and solitude until she sensed him coming.
"Damn! I totally forgot he is here." She thought. Hurriedly she stepped out of the pool but Ammra just collapsed to the floor. Her legs were numb. And the wine she drank for the ritual was too strong for a lightweight like her. "Calm down! Don't let him know your condition!" she screamed internally while making sure her hands were ready to cast a spell but failed due to her low Magica. "Damn! I could only rely on my Thu'um." She rose her face. Smiling. "Wait for me in the main hall. I will be ready. I just need to rest for a while here." Miraak must not know she could not stand up, not to mention walking to her room for changing her clothes.
Had they not in argument, perhaps Miraak had been smirking while enjoying what he saw. Ammra was there, sitting on the floor with her legs sideways in such a fragile pose. The wet clothes perfectly showed her body shape. On top of all, her helpless eyes were the most taunting. But he knew she was scared and tried her best to hide it. She was doubtful about her project and he had made things worse by scaring her.
"Dammit, no!" Ammra screamed internally as Miraak stepped closer. She was almost ready to use her invisible blade but what he did made her speechless. Miraak lifted her, carrying Ammra bridal style. "N—no—no, put me down. I'm—I am fine." She stuttered.
"I know you cannot walk and the ritual took all of your Magica. Stop resisting, little one" He spoke. "Where did you put your clothes?" Ammra turned her head toward her room to show him the way. "What did they give you to drink? Your face is red."
"They said it was wine."
"Too strong for you?" he guessed and Ammra just nodded.
"Don't let your guard down, Ammra." She warned herself as Miraak firmly carried her. The whole situation was so unexpected and Ammra did not know what to do. She tried her best to keep her sense sharp for any possibilities even though she began terribly dizzy and tired. "Damn that wine for making me tipsy! Damn Dibella for taking my Magica! Damn this ritual for making me like this and DAMN THIS SITUATION!" She screamed in her head, "Why is the room so far? I wanna hide..." The gentle night breeze blew. Ammra shivered. "How pathetic. I guess' I'll die now." without she could control it, Ammra fell asleep. She curled up on his hands.
He smiled as Ammra leaned her head on his chest, sleeping. The situation they were in made him feel that Ammra was within his reach. And Miraak was the type who love to be in full control...especially over Ammra. He had grown fond of it.
As soon he put her on the bed, Miraak told the priestess to dress her. He almost killed them all due to their belief that she needed to be left in that condition until breaking of dawn in case Lady Dibella wanted to examine her again. But in his way—which he tried his best to not kill—Miraak made them do as he told. He knew Ammra got cold easily and he did not wish to travel with a sick younger Dragonborn. He just wanted her to feel comfortable.
Miraak just stood outside of her room while waiting the night to pass, guarding her. Miraak heard what Barbas told her and he wanted to make sure none of this priestess was of Mephala's cult or other Daedrics.
The sight of what he saw during the ritual flashed inside his head. He let out a sigh remembering how she was stripped. Even if he could only see the silhouette, secretly the elder Dragonborn thanked Dibella for letting him 'witness' such a thing.
Hours ticked by. No sign of any Daedric's power. But Miraak could feel Hermaeus Mora's influence was approaching. The last time they met was the night before and he could tell Ammra's ward needed to be recast. Miraak knew if he was to sleep that night, Mora might be able to grip him. This time he decided to fight his influence, not wanting him to fill him with his words.
Silence and darkness might terrify most people. But for some individuals, a combination and silence and darkness sometimes turned into a tranquillity that let someone look back on his journey with a clear point of view, unclouded by any external influence.
Miraak recalled all of his time after she took her out from Apocrypha. All of those experiences, be it dangerous, fun, or even ridiculous, he started to feel it was all real, while thousands of years he spent in Apocrypha was a mere dream. He wanted his freedom yet what she dragged her in was actually a similar thing even though it was not exactly as he expected.
Miraak smiled in silence after thinking of what they had been through
