Since Ammra was in a rush collecting all the blessing, her next destination would be a place where a new understanding came to both Dragonborns
"You are nothing but a mere tool." The voice echoed. "You are a fool to believe I love you. No one truly loves you" He added. "Die. Your soul will be prey for the Lord...let him devour you..."
Ammra gasped for air as she awoke from the nightmare. She was in the temple's bedroom. "I am still alive, how did I get my clothes put on? where is Miraak? why he did not kill me?" all those things ramming her head even when she was still half-awakened. The only thing she wanted to see was the orb, so she ran out of the room toward the altar.
"Good morning, child." The priestess greeted her but Ammra who was too fixated on the altar just ran by to look into the chalice. It was empty. "He has the orb. He is at the main hall." the priestess added as she knew her concern. Immediately Ammra rushed to the main hall where Miraak was standing, leaning against a pillar. He crossed his arms with his eyes closed.
Ammra froze at the spot. As the first Dragonborn, he was granted with that perfectly tall and masculine build. As always, he looked intimidating and cold. Ammra noticed the ritual robe with a cloak that he was putting on somewhat made him even more majestic. He did not kill me. Why?" she carefully stepped closer. "What will he do now?"
When Miraak heard someone approaching, he opened his eyes and turned to Ammra. He noticed she remained cautious even after last night. He became certain that her sense of trust and distrust was dysfunctional and was not correctly or even properly used.
"You look terrible." was Miraak first word to her. "Tell the priestess to help you with your hair." Ammra was stunned by his reaction. "Here's your orb." He walked closer and handed the gem with DIbella's blessing. When Ammra took it, she furrowed her brow in disbelief.
"Half blessing." She hissed and clenched her fists. "DAMN RITUAL TAKING THE WHOLE NIGHT AND I JUST GET HALF BLESSING AFTER ALL THE HASSLE?!" she yelled to protest but instantly cover her mouth in guilt. She was sure the priestesses heard her yelling. So, she decided to return to Vindren Hall.
Ammra was so demotivated, annoyed, and above all, doubting herself. She sat on the dining chair, her face touching the table, Sulking in silence. Her life is in danger but those Goddesses just gave her riddles with stupid clues. The elder Dragonborn who sat across her watched in silence, concealing his urge to chuckle.
"My thane, I have told the carriage driver to take you to Black Water Crossing. Is there anything else you need me to prepare?"
"All good. Thank you." Her muffled voice heard. She replied without looking up. "Let's go." She said to Miraak. During her way across Skyrim, Ammra spent her time reading books about Mara and Dibella. She carefully read any information that might help her. Miraak heard how she cursed those two goddesses in a whisper, feeling amused by her annoyance.
The sun was above them when they arrived in the designated place. As soon as they made their way to an entrance of a cave, they could smell the scent of fragrance air. They kept walking down the cave tunnel until they reach the end and found themselves inside a gigantic space. There was a huge tree that grew inside that almost reaching the ceiling. The sunray stroke in through three big holes on the cave's ceiling, making it a suitable place for lush vegetation such as flowers and fungus to grow. There was a waterfall that flowing from the top and its stream surrounding the area with crystal clear water. Eldergleam Sanctuary offered such a scenic view.
Ammra sighed in astonishment. It was a sacred place for Kynareth pilgrims and the giant tree itself was believed to be the source of Kynareth's blessing. The peaceful place made her relaxed. "Finally, a place with less human." She mumbled.
Her mood lightened up. She began the ritual and this time Kynareth gave her the complete blessing. After two unsatisfying rituals, this time Ammra was so happy that she hugged the tree. "Thank you." She opened her eyes when she heard Miraak snorted. "What?!"
He shook his head. "Nothing." He was quite content to see her acting herself again. Miraak turned his gaze toward the magnificent tree.
Ammra watched him who was staring into space. Miraak seemed calm and tame. Then she noticed he had blood dripping from his hands. "Your hand. It's bleeding." She muttered. Miraak turned to her then looked at his own hand. The cut he made before the ritual still bleeding. He just shrugged and continue watching the tree which reminded him of Alduin and his past.
Unfamiliar urge made Ammra stepped closer to him and took his wounded hand. There were two cuts. "You did not heal the wound from last night's ritual?" Ammra cast the healing spell.
"Why do you care?" he asked under his breath.
"Because you are my hostage? I need you alive."
"No." he snapped. "You also acted the same to them. The thief. The twin wolves. And your servant. Why do you care so much for them too?"
His sudden question made her flustered. "They are my friends. I'm doing what a friend does."
He smirked. "You idiot! Don't you know they see you differently? They want you."
Ammra chuckled while shaking her head. "You have been questioning these a lot by now. What is it Miraak? Are you curious about my relationship?" she teased but he only gave her unamused look. "No men or mer, will take interest in me." Suddenly she felt his grip on her hand tightened. Miraak giving a look that demanded an explanation. But she did not know that her clueless answer only evoked the spark of anger in his chest. "What?"
"If you really think so, then stop acting so caring to them!" he growled. Ammra winced when his grip became stronger. She yanked her hand and jumped backward, readying herself for an attack. "What are you doing?" he asked as he saw an ice spell was ready on her palms.
"What am I doing?" she snapped, "What are YOU doing?!" Ammra glared at him. "You have been acting weird lately. At one time you were calm and suddenly you were so hostile. If you want to return to Apocrypha and resume your plan soon so bad, you'd better behave or..."
"Or what?" he snapped. "You will kill me?" Miraak purposefully used his stern voice even though the sight of Ammra trying to threaten him was too amusing for him. He did not know when it started but her threat had become something...adorable instead. Miraak could not help but enjoy her acting tough. "Are you afraid of me now, Dragonborn?" he teased which was a bullseye's shot for Ammra. However, she refused to admit it.
"Miraak, I warn you! Stop right there! I am in the mood for peace." She kept stepping backward as Miraak walked closer. "Miraak! I don't want to..." she gasped as she felt the ground beneath her gone. Before she fell to the stream, Miraak had caught her and pulled Ammra closer. The girl landed on his body as he laughed.
"You should have seen your face." He said while laughing.
Ammra was so embarrassed and stunned. "What happened? Did he do that on purpose to pull a prank on me? It was so unMiraak." Ammra looked up to see him who happened to gazed at her.
Their eyes met.
"You look so short from here." He said with a smug tone.
"Enough!" she yelled. "I can still grow taller!" he just smirked.
"Really?" he pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket. "I began to question my own project." He read it. "Mara just gave half of her blessing."
Ammra was so alarmed to know Miraak just took one piece of her journal. For someone as reclusive as her, that was too embarrassing. She did not know how and when he got that. All of in sudden she forgot to maintain her composure. She jumped to reach the paper, but Miraak just raised his hand higher. He laughed seeing Ammra trying hard to reach out.
"Give me that!" her usual voice became a squeak. She was too worried to let herself under control. As she ferociously jumped, she stumbled and fell on Miraak which caused the two to fall backward with Miraak below her. He laughed but Ammra quickly snatched the paper from his hand only to see it was a blank paper. He had been toying with her.
"Miraak! What are you trying to do?!" she yelled. Instead, he was just laughing. It was great entertainment for him to see her changes of expression. Ammra was speechless seeing him laughing because at that time Miraak just looked more human and harmless. "Why are you doing this? Is this your way to let my guard down so you can kill me?"
"You are a total idiot." He said, still lying on the ground. Suddenly pinkish petals fell gently from the Eldergleam like rain. Miraak noticed how her attention moved to another thing rapidly. She was in awe to see the beautiful scenery. Her smile was of pure joy and wonder. Miraak just watched her. Finally, he saw again the Ammra he knew! He would hoard it.
