As the snowy night crept in, the younger Dragonborn sat restlessly on the floor. Her back was leaning against the bedside on which Miraak lying.
People help her bringing him to the healing house. Ever since then, she refused to leave his side. The bleeding had stopped but his body was deeply injured. Ammra could hear his heartbeat. It became slower and weaker as time ticked. With every passing second, guilt consumed her.
"I am sorry." She muttered. "I shouldn't let my distrust affect my judgment." Ammra regretted she had not unlocked his power sooner. She blamed herself for what happened to Miraak.
For a person like Ammra, sacrificing someone for her own desire never sat right. That was why she did not kill him and choosing another way instead. But now, things turned the way she totally avoided. Some people also died because of the ambush. Ammra just couldn't help but blame herself and her selfish project.
"Miraak...please wake up." she hopefully muttered in her cry. She just realized how much she didn't want him to leave.
After healing a dragon, encountering an ambush as well as healing Miraak with an instant closing wound spell, Ammra had used too much Magica within a day. With her being weakened, Hermaeus Mora sensed he had a chance to crack her ward. The Deadric prince found his way to grip Miraak's soul and brought his consciousness back to Apocrypha.
The first Dragonborn found himself sitting on the throne, situated at the peak of Apocrypha. Ammra was sitting on his lap with her arms wrapping around his neck.
She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before saying, "I must leave so you can get what you want." The next second, her body dispersed into a puff of mist.
Hermaeus Mora's laughter fell around. As a being that owned his soul, it was easy for him to know what Miraak's wanted.
"You wan t her but she would leave you behind." He sneered then emerged before Miraak in his grotesque tentacles form. "I can, however," he paused, "Help you making her stay...by your side."
Miraak frowned for he knew this was nothing but a mere plot he was planning. He knew the Daedric prince was toying him but he could not resist the temptation of his bargain. This time Hermaeus Mora reconjured Ammra. Miraak gasped as he felt her hugging him lovingly from behind. She giggled with her innocent face.
"When she gathered the last blessing from Akatosh, drop my essence instead." Miraak saw his left palm had been imbued with some essence of the Daedric prince which only he could see. "This will corrupt the portal and disabled her to return. Thus, she will stay and eventually, be yours."
The first Dragonborn gasped for breath as he opened his eyes. He found himself lying in the bed. He noticed Ammra was standing by the window with her back on him. He could hear her sniffing and her cry. As he moved to sit, Ammra's sharp sense noticed the movement. She immediately turned around to see him.
"Miraak..." She mumbled. The next thing he knew, he was wrapped by her small figure. Ammra was hugging him while crying in relief. "I am sorry. I am so, so, so sorry to involve you in my project." She sobbed. Instinctively he hugged her and caressing her back. "I was so scared that you leave me. I so sorry Miraak." Her words made him feel a fluttering sensation.
"You are crying like a stupid child. I am still alive." He said to calm her but she cried harder instead. "I am fine, Dragonborn." She continued crying anyway.
Ammra finally pulled away after ceased crying. She sniffed and rub her eyes. "I want to give up my project." She said all of sudden. "That Daedric cult...because of their ambush...some guards fell. Farmers and citizens who happened to be there fell victims too." Miraak saw her eyes full of regret. "Among the victims...there was a child." A tear rolled down again and Ammra covered her face. "Oh...what have I done? This is all my fault...if I did not start this...they would still alive..."
Miraak gently grabbed her trembling hands. He felt her sorrow but couldn't accept the fact that she blamed herself. This time he pulled her closer and embraced her. "I am sorry..." she apologized again. "I really want to destroy what I have started, but it is not possible. Aetherial is too strong and with the divine...
"Sshh...calm down. You don't have to give a lecture while crying." He let his fingers ran through her hair. "If there is no turning back, then let's move forward," he replied even though he was not sure himself how things would go. For now, he just wanted to get rid of those tears.
After a few moments, Ammra pulled away again. She gulped. "I will unlock all of your Magica veins so you can protect yourself. Sorry, this happened because of me." She quietly apologized. "Do you mind I open the bandage? I also need to check the wounds."
Miraak shook his head. As Ammra sat next to him on the edge of the bed, they were so close. She took off the bandage that covered his torso, leaving him was bare-chested. "How will you do this?" Ammra told her briefly about the invisible blade she invented. "No wonder you could beat me even after I disarmed your weapon last time. You have that deadly touch." He smirked. "What else did you invent, bookworm?" Ammra chuckled faintly.
Miraak was slightly relieved to see her faint smile and Ammra was happy to know she was good enough to mock her. Both of them happy for each other secretly.
Last time, the locking of his Magica vein was done in battle. So, wherever she touched, it went unnoticed. But this time, Miraak noticed every touch and gentle thrust her tiny finger did. She started on both shoulder areas. Her hands slid down to each of his arm. It was difficult for him to accept such gentle touch could be lethal. And it was even harder to resist the 'closeness' sensation that overwhelmed him. He wanted it more and all.
As a final touch, Ammra gently pressed her right palm on his heart position. Miraak felt a sudden mild flow inside his body, indicating his magic had been completely recovered. "It is done." She muttered. Before Ammra pulled away, Miraak grabbed her hand. She looked up to meet his eyes.
"Why are you doing this to me?" he asked and Ammra frowned.
"Because I promised I would return your power...?"
"No. Why do you treat me with such care ever since we met?" Ammra turned away. "Looked at me, Dragonborn." Miraak gently touched her chin, guiding her face to see him. "You caused me all of this. So, tell me why. Your care had made me soft on you."
Ammra felt her cheek burning. "Miraak... I care...because somehow I felt it was just a normal thing especially after I finally meet another Dragonborn...?" she trailed off. In fact, she had been asking herself the same question and did not find the answer yet. He enjoyed her flustered look.
Before she couldn't continue, Miraak rested his forehead on hers. His eyes shut. Ammra sensed his heart beating fast. "Miraak?"
"Stay like this for a moment." He demanded. "Do you have any idea how troublesome you are, little one?" He said out of the blue. Ammra remained silent with her heart pounding. "I know about your portal." He talked again. "So, all these things were just about finding a way back home, huh?"
"Yes. After I leave, you can get what you want." Miraak remained silent hearing that wretched reason again.
Ammra could not believe Miraak would act the way he did now. She took it as his original state without Mora's influence. Surprisingly, she also found herself trust him.
Meanwhile, after the time they spent together, Miraak finally had learned that Ammra was just an innocent powerful Dragonborn, whose oddness he could not live without. Annoyingly she had become part of him. With Hermaeus Mora's offer on the tips of his fingers, Miraak began to think his plan was worth trying. Perhaps serving that Deadric Prince wouldn't be a pain in the ass anymore if he had her by his side.
