Neither Ammra nor Miraak noticed how many days had passed since their battle took place. Later that night, the ward that surrounded Miraak from Hermaues Mora wore off.
"She is not as harmless as she appears. You are swayed so easily..." his sinister laughter echoed. "Remember. No one can resist my offer." He paused. "You know she wants it too. She almost killed you once...and she can do it again after using you."
"You don't think I will let that happen easily, do you?" this time Miraak answered in his mind as an unknown hatred crept in. It was not his rage, but those emotions were like poison forcefully feed into his throat.
"Know that she is also capable of replacing you." He said with a humiliating tone. "But, if you manage to turn the table, she can be your minion. Imagine how useful Dragonborn minion can be." Miraak remained silent. "She could be your death or your servant. The choice is yours."
The conversation had a devious effect that put Miraak to sleep. He saw himself walking down the way under the dark sky of Apocrypha where a huge throne was waiting for him. There was a sound of a door swung open from the right side. He stopped and turned his head.
Something drew him closer to that door. Miraak took the first step. The pull became stronger the more step he took until eventually, before he knew it, Miraak stood in the doorway.
Yol Toor Shul... fire breath came out from a child's mouth as he shouted.
"Pruzah! Excellent. That is to be expected from our knight." Paarthurnax exclaimed. "As the first Dov in Joor body created by Akatosh, you showed your inborn quality well."
Aldiuin came and landed near them. The child happily ran toward Alduin and hug his neck. "Bormah. Father!" he cheered. "I could breathe fire."
"Zeymah. My brother. It seems his Joor part still take you as his bormah." Paarthurnax said.
"How was his training?" Alduin ignored the child who was happily playing around his body.
"He is doing great. A true dov, a promising knight that can represent us amongst the mortals." Alduin remained silent as if he was thinking of something.
"If he is to walk amongst the Joor, he will need a name." Alduin said. The young boy now sat below his head, listening intently. "Miraak. That will be his name."
The boy smiled widely and saying, "Thank you, Bormah."
Suddenly the surface beneath him crumbled. He fell deep into the darkness where thousands of black tentacles wrapped around his body until one of them piercing through it. Pain and terror consumed him as he remembered the agony of being under Hermaeus Mora's control.
"Miraak...please...wake up" he heard a tender voice followed by a soothing cool sensation. "Miraak..." slowly he could regain a sense over his body. He felt a strong force pulling him up and slowly Miraak managed to open his eyes but he could not see anything. "Take more cold water, kids." The voice ordered. The sound of someone running through the door was heard. There was a splashing sound followed by a cool sensation as something was rubbed on his forehead.
Miraak muttered something under his breath yet Ammra could not figure it out. In a brief second, she saw his eyes were black. All black. Ammra did not need further explanation on what had happened. She knew it was Hermaeus Mora's doing. Ammra cupped his face with one hand.
"Miraak...listen to me." She demanded softly. "It's fine now. You are here." carefully she landed her forehead on his. In that instant, she was brought to Apocrypha to see what he saw. It was almost the same as the first time she touched his mask. "Father Akatosh...please help me." she channeled her Magica into his body, trying to cast the same ward. She could no longer completely separated him from Hermause Mora, but at least now this would release him from the dream.
His tense body slowly relaxed and he began to breathe normally. "Miraak...it's fine now. Please wake up...." As he gained and registered the situation, Miraak regained his vision and saw what she was doing. Their face was close and he could sense her soft breath. The next thing he noticed a flow of her Magica inside his body. Ammra pulled away and looked at him with a concerned face. She studied him for a brief second before letting out a relieved smile.
Aleesan and Sofie returned with a bowl of cold water. They soaked a piece of rag and gave it to Ammra after squeezed it. "You were burning," she mumbled while pressing the cool rag on his forehead.
"No! this is not right!" she screamed internally, trying to stop herself but failed. Her brain told her to ignore him. By the Nine, he was the Firat Dragonborn! He did not need her to treat him the way she did right now. But her heart won. After what she saw, Ammra just couldn't stop herself and kept on pressing the cold rag gently until his fever getting better.
As if a flow of blazing lava directly hitting a body of water, Miraak felt a sudden change of emotion from darkness and rage to bliss and warmth. He suddenly snatched her hand to stop her. "Enough," he said plainly, half hoping her to disappear but half cherishing her presence.
Ammra who did not noticed his struggle just let go of her hand. "Sit up. I made some warm drinks with a potion to help you feel better."
After several minutes his condition turned normal rapidly as if nothing happened. Ammra noted to herself that Hermaus Mora might do that again. She knew they were at odds, but to see again how he treated him made her wonder what he had endured during eons of time he spent in Apocrypha. "No Ammra, it is not your business. He wants power! That was why he ended up there!" she reminded herself. The young Dragonborn tried to listen to her brain this time, not wanting her feelings to get in the way.
Ammra asked the carriage driver to drop them in a forest near Dragon Bridge. It was midday and the sun shone brightly. She led the way into the forest. Besides keeping distance and avoiding the Forsworn, their journey was peaceful. Ammra occupied herself with finding the hidden trace she once left and guide. Behind her, Miraak followed in silence.
She continued leading until they arrived in flat terrain. The trees seemed to grow encircled that area, leaving an open space in the middle. Instantly the younger Dragonborn sensed the resonance. It's time to start her project!
Ammra took out a chalice from her bag. With a single wave of her other free hand, she conjured a crystal staff. "It is the first area." She said with a solemn tone and became quiet for a moment. Miraak studied her who seemed to think and listen to something.
"It's talking to me." She murmured while closing her eyes for a moment then smiled. "We can absorb the power without giving anything in return...owh...how generous."
Ammra walked into the center of the area. With a gentle thrust from her staff on the ground, a magic huge magic circle with a golden glow emerged on the ground. Miraak watched how the runes and Dovahzul symbol constitute that complex magic circle. He never saw that kind of combination.
"Told ya, no book in Apocrypha has this," Ammra said with a cheeky grin. "Now, may I have some drops of your blood in this chalice?" Ammra frowned as she saw Miraak tore his palm then dropped his blood into the container. Ammra quickly put it down and reach out Miraak's wounded hand. "That was too much!" she said—almost nagging—while casting a healing spell. "I told you I only need a few drops."
"Tsk." He replied. "It was just a scratch" He pulled away from Ammra who was healing him. "Get this over with, Dragonborn. Quickly!" he exclaimed. Ammra just rolled her eyes then continued the ritual.
She dropped some of her blood into the chalice then put one piece of the Primal Soul Gem. Next, she placed the chalice in the middle of the magic circle. Soon after that, the gentle breeze swirled around them, carrying the leaves. The magic circle grew brighter then suddenly vanished. A round orb, as big as marble was floating in the air over the chalice. Ammra snatched it fast then felt it for a brief second.
"It worked! Yeaaay!!" She exclaimed in joy and happiness. She jumped and shook her body while smiling widely to celebrate. "I am smart! I knew it worked! Owh...Ammra, you should treat yourself!" She was about to twirl and dance when she realized she had a viewer. Quickly she got herself together, returned to her regular composure.
"Next place is near here." She walked passing Miraak while looking down, hiding her face. "Go on! Continue like that and you kill yourself with your own embarrassment!" she scolded herself.
Miraak just smirked seeing such a sight. "What divine did you absorb the power from ?" he asked after they were silent for long. Ammra was too busy comforting herself from the shame.
"It was Zenithar." She answered. "Apparently hundred years ago this place was a centre of trade across Tamriel. "Next destination is the area for Stendarr." after a while she added. "Well...absorbing sounds so negative. It sounds like we take all, but basically, I just ask some energy from the source of their power. It gave it willingly. Umm...so it's not like killing a dragon and steal the soul"
She explained without him even asked. Due to his intelligence, Miraak grasped the concept of her invention fast and admit his enemy's brilliant idea. Even Hermaeous Mora might not know about her idea. And speaking of Daedric creature, Miraak wondered why he had not said anything again after last night.
"...so the point is I jut materialize the blessing. I am not stealing..."
"I get it. You can stop explaining." Miraak snapped. "Why the divines and not deadra?" when he saw Ammra opened her mouth to start talking, Miraak quickly added, "Give me the short answer. Straight to the point."
She nodded. "Why not Daedra? because they are stingy. Always ask something in return. But I like something for free."
"Something for free?" she never ceased to amuse him with her way of thinking.
"Well, don't you like it if someone give you something as gift and not asking for payment?" Miraak did not answer. "In exchange for power, Hircine wants my soul afterlife. What did Hermaeus Mora ask from you when he gave you power?"
He ignored her question again because Miraak was more intrigued to know her way of thinking. "If you don't like Hircine's power, then why you accept the beast blood?"
"I did not know." She squirmed. "I thought it was a part of initiation ceremony to join the Companion. Had I known; I wouldn't accept." She paused.
"You said my blood is stronger, then why use yours too?"
"Because your blood can contain their energy, while my blood can only detect its location. I also add the Primal Soul Gem made of Aetherium—the rarest material. I do not know if there are any other than this." For the first time, Miraak felt finally he met someone as brilliant as he was in terms of knowledge. Without he knew it, he began to grow more curious...perhaps...more attracted.
They walked out from the forest, heading toward marshland until they arrived in some old ruins covered by moss and bushes. "Sometimes, the main source of energy is not in the temple. Most of them are out in the wild." She said while handed the chalice to Miraak. This time he cut himself a small wound. The ritual complete and Ammra smiled. This time she did not act like before.
"How could you manage detect the location?"
"This may sound crazy but the Divines sometimes talked to me and if they allow, I can see them." Miraak frowned because of her answer. Then suddenly Ammra held his one hand. The moment when their hands hold each other, he heard a clear voice of humming. It sounded so bright and calming.
"Miraak..." he heard someone calling. Was it Alduin? or was it Paarthurnax? Their surrounding shifted into a great hall with glorious furnishing. He turned to Ammra who was accidentally turned to him too. She gave out that told-ya-so look on her face with a grin
