Nyra was about to speak when Theron grabbed her arm and hauled her to her feet.
"Stop the act." His voice dripped with disdain. "Delilah fell five floors and nearly died. You tumbled down some stairs. Hardly the same thing."
"Now get up. You're going to the hospital and apologize to her."
He dragged her toward the door without mercy, ignoring the blood still trickling from her forehead. Her knee wound had torn open again, each step sending fire through her leg.
Nyra let herself be shoved into his car, staying silent the entire ride.
She watched the city blur past the windows, telling herself the same thing over and over: Just hold on a little longer. Soon, she'd be free.
In the hospital room, Delilah lay propped against the pillows, pale and fragile with bandages wrapped around her wrists.
The moment she saw Nyra, she flinched and her eyes immediately filling with tears.
"Theron..." Her voice trembled. "I... I don't want her here..."
Theron was at her side instantly, taking her hand with infinite gentleness. "It's Okay, Delilah. I've got you. No one's gonna hurt you."
He turned to Nyra with ice in his eyes. "What are you waiting for? Apologize."
Nyra looked exhausted but strangely calm.
She met Delilah's gaze directly. "Delilah, when you fell from that balcony—are you sure I pushed you?"
Delilah's lashes fluttered, and tears spilled down her cheeks. "If you don't wanna apologize, that's fine. I never wanted to cause trouble anyway."
She sobbed softly, her voice breaking. "I know Theron's been spending time with me lately, and I get why you'd hate me. But you two were just arranged anyway. He doesn't love you. If it weren't for my lowborn, he never would've been stuck with you..."
The harder she cried, the darker Theron's expression became.
"Sylvae!" His voice cracked. "You're here to apologize, not make her cry! Are you gonna do it or not?"
Nyra closed her eyes.
She knew Delilah was framing her.
But... she was leaving soon.
She couldn't let anything mess up the alliance between their packs. Without it, she'd never get her thirty million. Never get her freedom.
"I'm sorry." The words came out quietly. "It was my fault."
She turned to leave.
"Stop." Theron's voice froze her in place. "Since you hurt her, you're staying here and taking care of her until she's discharged."
Nyra's fingers curled slightly, but in the end, she nodded. "Fine."
For the next several days, Nyra never left Delilah's hospital room.
Theron practically moved in too, abandoning all his pack duties to personally feed Delilah soup, massage her hands, and sing her to sleep...
Things he'd never once done for Nyra.
But Nyra never showed a trace of jealousy. She simply took care of Delilah quietly, her expression serene, as if none of it concerned her at all.
The nurses whispered among themselves.
"God, I've never seen such an understanding Luna!"
"You don't get it," another nurse sighed. "This is what happens when you love your Alpha that much. She's willing to care for his mistress, just hoping he might glance her way. Oh....it's so heartbreaking."
Theron happened to overhear as he walked past.
He paused, his gaze drifting involuntarily to the slender figure in the hospital room.
Nyra sat with her head bowed, carefully peeling an apple, her profile quiet and gentle.
Something strange stirred in Theron's chest.
The day Delilah was discharged, Theron told Nyra: "I'm taking Delilah on vacation for a few days. Don't contact me unless there's a pack emergency."
Nyra nodded. "Okay."
She watched him lead Delilah away, and for the first time in months, felt a flicker of relief.
Finally. She wouldn't have to watch those lovebirds anymore.
Back home, she began packing, preparing for her departure.
A few days later, she saw Delilah's posts.
Rhydian took her to the Maldives. At some fancy auction, he spent a fortune on every piece of jewelry she liked.
Nyra glanced at the photos once, then scrolled past without a second thought.
She didn't care.
She'd never cared.
