Cassian let out a bitter laugh. He really had underestimated that psycho bitch.
Ethan quickly stepped forward to reassure him. "Don't worry, sir. We've already filed a police report. She didn't have much cash, so we should find her pretty soon."
Cassian shook his head weakly. He wasn't worried about that.
He was worried about Aurelia.
If Verena was crazy enough to try to kill him, she'd definitely go after Aurelia next. And she'd probably be even more vicious about it.
"Go to the Westvale house," he told Ethan urgently. "Send them a message about what happened. Tell Aurelia she needs to be careful—Verena might come after her."
Ethan's face went even paler, and he shifted uncomfortably.
"What's wrong? Didn't you hear me?" Cassian's voice was dangerously low.
Ethan reluctantly pulled out a manila folder and set it on the hospital table. "Sir, you asked me to track down Mrs. Thornwell's whereabouts, so I checked with all the major airlines. I just got the results back yesterday. She... she left America two weeks ago."
"WHAT?!" Cassian tried to sit up and immediately screamed as pain shot through his entire body.
"Yes, sir. She flew to Switzerland two weeks ago. And according to the passenger manifest, she had a young boy with her."
Something clicked in Cassian's brain.
He licked his dry lips and stared at Ethan. "She must have gone to see Delphine! Get on this right now—I need the address of every Leclair family property in Switzerland. Focus on the fashion companies. That's where she'll be."
"The Leclairs? You mean the textile empire family?"
"Yes! Delphine Leclair is the eldest daughter. She and Aurelia have been best friends since childhood. That's definitely where Aurelia went."
Ethan nodded and rushed out to get back to the office.
Cassian lay there in agony, his head and back throbbing with every heartbeat.
But the physical pain was nothing compared to the emptiness eating him alive.
Ever since Aurelia left, it felt like someone had carved a chunk out of his chest. Every day was torture.
Now she was gone, and he and Caleb were completely lost without her.
And it was all Verena's fault.
If that bitch hadn't seduced him, hadn't convinced him to switch the babies, none of this would have happened!
His eyes flashed with pure hatred. "Verena," he whispered through gritted teeth. "You destroyed my child, you tortured my wife, and I'm going to make you pay for every second of it."
Then Ethan's words hit him again"She had a young boy with her."
A boy. What boy?
Had Aurelia found their real son?
Cassian's heart started racing with a mixture of hope and terror.
Part of him was relieved that Aurelia had finally been reunited with their child.
But another part of him was terrified that now she'd never forgive him for what he'd done.
Anyway his mind was made up.
As soon as he was out of this hospital bed, he was getting on a plane to Switzerland.
He was going to bring them home, and make up for the hell he'd put them through.
