My step-sister's son had leukemia. Just because I didn't immediately agree to donate my daughter's bone marrow, my BASTARD husband ordered his men to bleed her dry.
I fought to save her, but my sister beat the hell out of me—broke both legs and dumped me in an alley where I suffered unimaginable torture.
Three years later, her kid relapsed, and suddenly my husband remembers I exist.
He's back at our old house—dust everywhere, total dump.
He shakes his head.
"You said you'd only love me. I leave for what, just three years? And place is empty? Slut."
My step-sister's crying, grabbing his arm.
"Doctor says our Tyler's dying! We need bone marrow right now! She ran off with her kid—what about my baby?"
Now he's turning over every rock to find us. Gonna drag us back to be walking blood banks.
Good luck with that.
Me and my baby girl? We're six feet under.
The private jet had barely touched down when my husband's assistant hit him with the bad news.
"Mr. Sterling, your wife and daughter have completely vanished. It's like they never existed. We've got nothing."
Dante Sterling's jaw clenched tight.
Behind him, little Tyler sat hooked up to his breathing machine, looking like a walking skeleton.
Sophia Winters's tears started flowing instantly.
"She's still pissed at me, isn't she? She'd rather watch my baby die than lift a finger to help. What does she want—me dead? Is that what it'll take for her to leave my son alone?"
Speeding through traffic, Dante kept firing off texts with ice-cold fury.
[Look who grew a spine. Too good to answer my messages now?]
[Emma's my daughter too. I have every right to see her. Hand her over nice and easy, or I'll come get her myself. Did you forget what happened last time?]
No response. Dante saw red and fired off one final threat:
[Still the jealous bitch, I see. Time to remind you what happens when you cross the Sterling family.]
Sophia Winters quickly shook her head.
"I just want my sister to save Tyler. I don't want her hurt, Dante. Tell her I'll give her anything she wants—everything I have, just please..."
Dante pulled her close, his face unreadable.
Soon they pulled up at the hospital.
Standing in that familiar room, Dante's mind flashed back three years. Same scene, same desperation.
His precious Tyler needed bone marrow, and I'd refused to hand over Emma.
Sure, I was an 80% match, but Dante didn't give a shit. He wanted Emma—95% compatibility.
"I only bet on sure things," he'd said.
To save his son, he had my Emma kidnapped.
During the extraction, he stationed fifty security guards outside to keep me from interfering.
I screamed and fought like a wild animal.
"Emma's only five! She has a serious heart condition—she can't donate! Take mine instead, please, I'm begging you!"
Sophia dropped to her knees, sobbing.
"It's just one little needle prick, but it's my son's LIFE! I know you hate me, and fine—hit me, curse me, whatever. But Tyler's innocent. Don't take it out on him."
Before I could answer, Dante's hand cracked across my face, sending me flying.
His voice was ice-cold.
"Saving her brother is Emma's duty as a sister. You don't get to stop it."
They nearly bled Emma dry that day.
But Dante still wasn't satisfied.
He was pissed I'd fought back, made his son wait longer. So he took his revenge—drained my daughter's marrow until she was basically empty.
"This is so you understand Sophia's pain. Maybe next time you won't be so fucking selfish."
Afterward, he took Sophia and Tyler overseas to recover. Three years without a word.
Thinking about all this, he sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"Celeste always was vindictive as hell. Finding her this time's gonna take forever. Poor Tyler's gonna suffer because of her petty bullshit."
Sophia collapsed to her knees, tears streaming down her face.
My spirit hovered above, watching these two clinging to each other, and I almost laughed.
They're tearing the world apart looking for me, not knowing I'm right fucking here.
