"I have to go," I whispered as I lay on Slim's chest.
"You keep saying this but you haven't moved," he chuckled as he sat up. "Go. It's almost 10, they'll be up soon if they aren't already."
I drove back to my apartment smiling, happy that Slim understood that I wasn't responsible for his arrest. I walked through my front door, shocked to see Bria up sitting at the kitchen counter waiting for me.
"What are you doing, Jordyn?" she spoke softly.
"I went for a drive to clear my head," I lied, grabbing my phone as I walked past her to the balcony.
"I know you saw him," she said when we were alone. "I won't tell Drew but you need to get it the fuck together before this shit blows up in your face."
"Everything's fine, I promise," I smiled, grabbing her hand across the table.
"You fucked him, didn't you?" she asked, cracking a small smile.
I blushed from embarrassment wondering how it was so obvious to her.
"JoJo," she laughed softly. "What am I going to do with you?"
"Girl between last night and this morning, enough has been done."
"Please tell me this was the last time. Promise me you won't do it again."
"I can't. I care about him too much."
Drew opened the patio door before stepping outside with us, cutting the conversation short.
"Hey, baby," he began, kissing my forehead. "You in a good mood this morning. You ready to talk about last night?"
I explained to them everything Slim and I discussed the night before, watching their facial expressions change when they realized we all were wrong about him.
"That doesn't explain him stalking you, JoJo," Drew added.
"He wasn't 'stalking' me. I didn't tell him anything about you and he thought I was just mad at him."
"And you believe him?"
"Yes, just like I believed nothing happened between you and Morgan," I said rolling my eyes.
"So what do you do now?" Bria asked.
"I haven't decided yet but I can't let him go to prison."
"That's not your decision to make, Jordyn," Drew said. "This investigation has been going on for months. It's over."
"They don't have enough evidence against him. They were relying on my testimony and thanks to you jumping the gun, I have no information to give them."
"Then let the courts handle it. If you're so sure they won't be able to charge him, let him fight it."
"It's my fault he's even in there, Drew."
"Why do you care about this nigga so much all of a sudden? You just hated him literally 24 hours ago. What the fuck happened last night?"
"Drew, calm down," Bria spoke up.
"Stay out of this, Bria," he snapped at her.
"If you don't wish to help, Drew, that's fine," I spoke. "I am going to help him with or without you so if that's a problem, just go."
Without saying a word, he walked through the door to the balcony and out of the front door.
"Are you crazy?!" Bria yelled. "You are going to lose him if you don't snap out of whatever trance Slim has you in."
"If you're not helping me figure out a way to help him then you can leave too," I snapped at her.
"I hope the dick was worth it, Jordyn."
She stood and followed Drew out of the door. I picked up my phone and dialed the one number I knew to call if I ever felt stuck.
"Hello?" a voice answered.
"I need your help with something and I don't need to hear anything but 'I'll take care of it'," I said into the phone.
"Whatever you need, I'll take care of it," the voice replied.
Later that day ...
"Jordyn, what are you doing here?" Slim asked as I walked into the apartment.
"I just needed to be somewhere I could breathe without constant questions," I replied, placing my purse on the counter and walking straight to the bedroom.
"Wait, Jordyn, we need to talk."
I walked into the bedroom to see a woman laying in Slim's bed.
"Slim, what's going on?" I said turning around to face him.
"Jordyn, Nina. Nina, Jordyn," he said gesturing to each of us as he said our names.
"What is she doing here?"
"She was my one phone call. She bailed me out this morning."
"And you didn't think to tell me?"
"He didn't know I was here," she cut in, getting out of the bed revealing her naked body.
I looked at Slim in shock as he stood there, emotionless.
"Fuck you," I said turning and walking out of the room to leave.
"Jordyn, wait," he said, running to stand between me and the door.
"Get the fuck out of my way!"
"No, we need to talk."
"I don't have shit to say to you. Move."
"Then just listen. The DA is gathering evidence and they claim they'll have enough to give me 20 years."
"I don't care."
"Yes you do. That's why you're here. I'm sorry I didn't tell you but she's helping me."
"Good, you don't need me anymore. Goodbye, Devon."
"Jordyn, can you just shut the fuck up and listen for one fucking minute?! Everything isn't about you. I'm looking at hard time, baby. I can't turn down any help I'm getting right now."
"I'm not asking you to. Whatever plans you have, do them without me. I'm done."
He grabbed me by the waist, pulling me in to a deep kiss before I pushed him away.
"Bye, Slim," I said softly reaching for the door.
"Jordyn, I love you. This may be the last time I see you and I don't want it to be like this."
"What do you mean 'the last time'?"
"I'm leaving the country. That's why Nina's here. She's gonna help me get into Mexico without being caught by the feds."
"Did you have sex with her?"
"No."
"So why is she naked in your bed?"
"That's how she sleeps," he chuckled. "I've been out here on the sofa trying to figure out how to tell you."
He pulled me into a hug, kissing the top of my head.
"I didn't wanna just disappear without telling you. I wanted to properly say goodbye but I may not be here much longer."
"I want to see you before you go. Please," I begged, looking in his eyes.
"I'm not sure you can. Once I'm there and settled I'll call you and let you know I'm okay."
"So this is it?" I asked, still holding on to him.
"This is it."
We stood in silence holding each other until we finally let go.
"Get home safe," he said softly, opening the door to let me out. "I love you, Jordyn."
"I love you too, Devon."
