Nathan
"I fucking love that your parents are rich right now," I gasp, opening the coded door of the apartment.
Kaiden smiles a bit, as he goes to look outside the ceiling to the floor window in the living room. He places his empty Starbucks cup on the glass table beside the two high backed chairs near the balcony.
The sunset is beautiful. The skies are painted purple pink and gold and it will be dusk soon. The view is to die for.
"I'm not even going to complain about accepting this - I don't care if I'm freeloading!"
I look around at the fully furnished apartment in awe. For a place in New York, this feels like one out of an interior magazine. The whole decor theme is white and blue with an open kitchen and dining and a minibar in the living room.
The balcony is big and has a lot of well kept plants.
"You do know my mother lived here, yes? It's her home?" Kai asked, amused.
"Oh?" I grin sheepishly. "I didn't. So where are your grandparents?"
"They passed a while ago actually."
"I'm sorry. Were you close?"
"I remember little things, but I was too young to actually remember their company you know? But mum was very upset. She loved them."
I feel a bit of regret filling me up for asking the question.
"I've been here before but it still feels so new!" he says. "New York feels like a distant memory so I'm glad I can make new ones."
I walk to him and wrap my arms around his waist, resting my chin on his shoulder.
"This place is huge for only both of us, by the way."
It is beautiful and it would always be amazing to have extra space but what would we do with it?
"It's two bedrooms. Maybe we can have roommates? Earn a bit of additional money?" Kai asks.
"Sounds like a good idea. Let's send out flyers on campus. We might find some good contenders."
"Should we get another gay couple?"
I laugh at his suggestion. He pouts.
"It'd be the safest you know? What if we get some dudes and they turn out to be homophobic shits? No thanks, I don't want a vibe kill."
I kiss his cheek, making him blush.
"Fine, let's make sure that we specifically mention that on the flyer. Will you be okay with a couple of girls?"
"Only if they're dating. I don't mind straight couples either but I just don't want them to you know, be nasty. Because it will be hard for me to kick anyone out if they turn out horrible."
"You don't need to worry about that. I'll be sure to be very straightforward with the rules!"
"Gay forward you mean?" Kai laughs. I roll my eyes at the predictable joke.
The sun has now gone down completely, leaving the apartment dark. The citylights glisten below, like little fireflies.
Kai leaves my embrace and turns on the lights, dimming them down. The only bright light is the chandelier.
"Wow. This is too perfect. I don't even feel like a struggling college student anymore!" I smile, looking around.
Kai smiles, nodding.
"We're lucky we don't have to struggle."
He eyes the multiple boxes and suitcases, near the door. We need to unpack soon. College starts in two days and we only have that time to set up at least our clothes.
"I really don't feel like tackling those right now," he sighs.
He walks to me and hugs me, snuggling into the crook of my neck. I rest my hands on his waist and spin us around slowly, waltzing around the living room.
"Are we dancing right now? Why are you such a hopeless romantic?" he pouts but smiles.
"You're so cute," I grin. "I'm so excited to live here with you Kai Pie! Imagine the fun we're going to have!"
Kaiden pulls back a little. He jumps and wraps his legs around my waist, arms around my neck. I almost stumble at the sudden action.
"Show me how much fun," he whispers huskily, before kissing me.
I happily kiss him back and clumsily trudge to the bedroom. Our shirts come off quickly and he pulls me down, kissing harder. I bite his bottom lip and he gasps. I slide my tongue in, easily exploring his mouth which tastes like mint and the Starbucks he just had.
My hand slides to his crotch and I palm him over the jeans, a soft whimper leaving his lips.
"Mm, you feel so good!" he grumbles. "I want more Nate!"
Hurriedly we discard the fabric separating us and goosebumps rise in the cold air of the apartment.
"Kai, I don't have condoms."
"I don't fucking care, neither of us can carry a child Nathan!" he groans impatiently.
"Or lube either!"
To my intense embarrassment, he grabs my hand and sucks on my fingers, wetting them completely with his saliva. His jade irises stare into mine, completely unabashed and it is so erotic, I am ridiculously turned on all of a sudden.
"There," he whispers, grinning in a lewd manner. His hair has grown longer and it's falling on his eyes, making him look godlike - almost like an anime character.
I slowly insert a finger inside and he moans in desperation.
"Fuck you look so pretty Kaiden," I whisper, meaning it. He looks absolutely breathtaking.
He kisses me deeply and I slide another digit in, the whole scenario making me harder than ever possible. Kaiden really makes my body react in the most beautifully sinful ways.
We break apart from the kiss panting heavily. He curses and moans as I insert a third finger, parting him, making his clean hole ready to take him.
"Fuck Nate, just... I'm ready," he whispers.
"You might need to uh..."
He almost whines before he realises. I blush red when he literally takes my whole length in his mouth and coats it before lying back on the soft mattress.
"Who are you and where is my innocent Kai Pie?" I ask and he laughs.
I align myself with him and slide inside, earning a loud unfiltered moan from the boy underneath me. The boy I've come to fall head over heels for.
"Fuck you feel so good in me!" he hums, walls stretching to accomodate me. He kisses me slowly, lovingly, eyes never leaving mine.
"I love you Nate. Don't let me go okay?"
"I won't." I promise.
I begin to move as we become one, christening the bed and the new home, we're going to start the next chapter of our life in.
Ew, I sound married.
Well, I wouldn't mind that. After I graduate, of course.
"What are you smiling about?" Kai asks breathlessly, as I pound into him.
"Just thinking."
"About?" He gasps as I angle us better and hit his sweet spot dead on. He bites his lips hard.
"Don't hold back baby boy, let me hear how good I make you feel!" I encourage him. He moans so deliciously that I almost cum right there.
"Thinking about?" he gasps again.
I push into him sideways and bite the spot below his ear, leaving an angry maroon hickey.
"Us. You. How beautiful you are and how lucky I am to be here with you."
"Cheesy brat. You know what I'm thinking?" He huffs, eyes closed and mouth parted. I know he's close.
"Hm?"
"That I want round two against the window."
My campus is amazing. Our schools are quite far away, so it leaves us little time to meet up during the day. But we manage during breaks and when we have half days.
"Are you going to participate in your campus festival?" Kai asks. "If not, we can at least get tickets and visit! I heard there's a concert happening!"
We're sitting under a giant oak tree, right in the middle of my campus. Fall is beginning to set in now so it's colder. The adjustment of schedules and food hasn't felt too hard on us - maybe because we have each other to rely on. We didn't have to deal with the homesickness many of our classmates complained about.
Kai is my home. So I'm happy wherever he is.
This oak tree is our common meetup spot. Kai is lying in my lap, my fingers running through his hair. It has gotten longer.
I've learned how to braid it. My personal favourite hairstyle on him is the space buns. He looks really adorable in them but he prefers keeping them gelled back or messily curly.
"How is it you know more about my campus fest than I do?" I chuckle.
"Because your head is only buried in your big ass medical textbooks nowadays! It should be buried between my legs instead but I am a good boyfriend so I will not complain," he says.
We both laugh at his lewd statement.
"So considerate," I mock, flicking his forehead. He pouts and pinches my nose. I push him away, wincing.
"So anyway, the lineup is cool. Imagine Dragons and some opening acts too. We should definitely sign up soon before the passes get sold out. I'm thinking of inviting Alex and Ryan too. Let's see if they can manage."
I nod and bend down to kiss his forehead. We're still happily in the honeymoon phase of our relationship and I don't want it to end.
People say living together opens up a lot of sides to your significant other that sometimes you can't adjust to and it causes most young couples to drift apart.
Money isn't thankfully an issue with us. It won't ever be and I'm glad for that.
Kaiden is an awesome roommate to have, being a clean freak. He always makes me step up my game. I can never afford to be a slob around him. We compliment each other in a lot of ways.
He's miserable with appliances but I can make minor repairs. I'm good with savings and he's good at cooking. We have down days where we're too exhausted from classes and exams, so the dishes pile up but we've never lost our temper at each other.
"How's the roommate situation coming up by the way? You said you'd interview the applicants personally, hasn't even a single couple crossed your path? Is the rent too much?"
Kai blushes suddenly.
"What?" I press. I know his guilty face well.
"I... Well... I was approached by someone."
"Who?"
"You're probably not going to like this."
"Just tell me, Kaiden."
"Sam asked."
Fuck. Fuck no?
"Well, Sam isn't a couple is he? No. Rejected. Nada." I grumble immediately, looking away. Kai sits up and ties his hair up.
"It's not him alone. It's his friend. He was this really adorable little dude. I think they have something going on but it's still new. I spoke to them yesterday."
"And you didn't tell me?! Were you even planning to tell me or did you already say yes and I'm going to go home and wake up to their luggage tomorrow?" I ask, a little pissed.
Kai sighs. He cups my face and forces me to look at him. He looks freaking adorable with the red scarf and a nose to match. I half wonder why we're sitting in the cold but it's something Kaiden enjoys.
"Listen. We said we can start over with him, yes? I promise there's no lingering feelings from me."
I sigh.
"And you can assure that about him? Can you? You can't. What if the new little dude is just a ploy to make you fall for him again?"
"And I won't. He ended things Nathan, if you remember. He let me go. We're going to start as friends because he is definitely a good person to have as a friend. Ask Seth if you want."
"I know he is, okay? I've known him longer than you," I snap. I don't like this still.
"You trust me right?" Kai asks. I nod immediately.
"Then let's give this a chance. God knows it will turn out better for everyone!"
"Fine. Only because I love you."
"Yay. Thank you!" He grins and hugs me tightly.
"Let's go back home. You need to repay me for doing this for you." I whisper before kissing him.
He's still the same as I remember him. Piercing blue eyes and tall, well built with a killer smile.
"Nice to meet you again, Nate!" he says softly, a complete contrast to the arrogant teenager I was used to.
"Hi, Sam."
The dude with him looks around, wide eyed. He looks tiny in front of us, even at a height of probably 5'9", because he is petite. And really really handsome. His skin just glows.
I almost hi-five Sam for landing such a beautiful partner, but then realise I don't know anything about their relationship. God, that would have been embarrassing!
"You guys know each other?" The Asian guy asks curiously, smiling. His eyes almost completely shut when he smiles, forming little crescents.
"We were in the same school together, Jeff," Sam says, smiling fondly.
Okay, so definitely something's going on there. I raise a brow playfully and Sam glares at me.
Kaiden comes out of the room, freshly showered. He happily hugs them both and I appreciate that he doesn't linger in the hug with Sam. He knows what will irk me.
Have I mentioned how much I love Kaiden?
"Come on, I'll show you to the room! This is the dining and the living. You're welcome to share our groceries and split the amount or you can buy your own too. Both rooms have attached bathrooms so that wouldn't be a problem. The cleaning items are in the laundry room so we take turns sweeping and doing dishes just so we don't need a maid." Kai rattles off quickly, looking extremely adorable.
Sam and the dude, Jeff (very white name for an Asian guy) follow him, looking around amazed. I follow them. Kai opens the bedroom. It also has a small balcony.
Jeff whistles softly but then his eyes land on the bed. He blushes.
"It's just one bed?"
Sam coughs awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.
"We specifically mentioned couples on the flyer or girls, just for this reason. I mean... you could always get separate beds for yourself. We can shift this bed temporarily elsewhere."
"Oh, it's alright. We'll manage," he says quietly. Sam goes red.
I almost aww at the adorable tension between them. Just bone already!
"This is a classy place! So much better than the dorms I'm used to! I'd love to stay here! I promise I'll help in anyway I can!" Jeff says cheerily.
Kai grins, already liking the guy. They talk about the guy's major and what he's studying. They sit on the living room sofa. Sam follows me to the balcony, leaning against the railing.
He stares at Kai.
"Eyes off, brat. He's mine," I say in a low voice.
Sam rolls his eyes, scoffing.
"I know. I'm just.... he looks even more irresistible in those hair, doesn't he?"
"Not helping. If you're here to ogle my boyfriend, I'm gonna kick you out this instant."
Sam raises his hands in surrender.
"I'm sorry. I promise I'm not here for him. Actually the dorms at my university really were too small for my pampered ass. Dad insisted I get a frat or a separate accommodation but it would mean having a maid or a guard or a butler or a driver who would constantly report everything to him. And it would mean I'm... I ... Well, staying away from him."
He looks at Jeff who is happily engrossed in talking to Kaiden. Sam seems to like him.
"How long you been together?"
"I... I haven't confessed yet. I'm a little scared, you know? This is going to be my first relationship that isn't under wraps or hidden."
A pang of pity fills me. The reason why Sam had chosen a city on the other side of the country was to have his freedom. I guess having me and Kai around would make him more confident of his own relationship.
"You like him, though?"
Sam nods shyly.
"He's a year older to us, studying pharmacy too. We met at a seminar in the first month and he's been showing me the ropes. He's extremely smart and plays the guitar like a whiz and can sing too."
"Wow. Wonder how you snagged him."
"Hey, you watch it. I once had your man in my palm too! You too, as much as I hate to think about that."
"Do yourself a favour and don't tell Jeff anything about us alright? Maybe you and Kai are fine, but if he finds out he's rooming with two of your exes, things won't even start between you."
Sam laughs at that.
"I guess you're right. Tell me, are you going to the concert? I know someone who can get us front row."
"Are you proposing a double date then?" I tease.
"I'll throw you off the balcony I promise you Nathan," Sam says evenly.
"Fine. Get the tickets, maybe we'll reduce the first month's rent for you."
Sam rolls his eyes again.
"I look forward to teasing you more. Jeff seems nice," I snicker.
A comfortable silence settles between us.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.
Kaiden
I watch Sam and Nate laugh on the balcony, a warmth coursing through me. I knew it would eventually be okay between us.
"How long have you known Nathan?" Jeff asks.
"Just over a year now."
"And Sam?"
"The same time. Actually I was dating Sam for a while before Nathan," I mutter, embarrassed.
"You're brave, living with an ex and a current boyfriend. Won't things be weird?"
"Not really. Besides, Sam seems to really like you."
Jeff goes bright red and completely changes the subject. I laugh. He's cute.
Nathan catches my eyes and winks at me. I blow him a kiss and he pretends to fall over, a hand over his heart.
What a dork.
But he's my dork and I wouldn't change that for the world.
Everything is going to be okay.
