"Go!" I didn't neee to be told twice when I threw myself through the wall of enemies like the projectile of a gun. They were too slow to stop me right now and most of their powers did not affect me much so the way through the entrance was free.
I entered through the door that led to the underground tunnel, not knowing where I could find Peter Falcon so I kept running straight forward noticing how not a single soul was in here. In a hurry, I tried remembering the way to the large hospital room and took a few turns until I found it totally empty as well.
A cold shiver went down my spine... it didn't make sense. Vince had clearly told us that he had felt the presence of at least a 1000 people in here. Were they all gathered in some other part of this basement?
"Vince, there is no one here..." I pressed the earpiece and waited for the older to answer.
"That can't be... I could sense about 700 around the area and up in the woods... and about 300 in the basement. There is a likely chance they hid the injured ones and children somewhere deeper within. Don't go looking for them... or priority is Peter Falcon." He shortly answered and I took a breath to calm my nerves.
"Alright, but where-" I was harshly cut off by a sudden impact on the side of my face. If I hadn't used my obtained ability of making my body like gum, that impact would have killed me in an instant. Although I didn't get hurt from the punsh itself, I was smashed against the wall on the opposite side and the earpiece was ruined.
In shock I got up and ran forward to not be in the area of a next attack when I saw the menacing figure of Peter Falcon suddenly blocking the way.
He had landed that punch on me with ease just because I lost focus for a second. If he had used the cursed knife instead of his fist everything would have been lost by now...
"Hello, my dear nephew. Fancy a cup of tea?" Peter sweetly asked and grinned when moving back as soon as I tried to touch his skin that was only revealed on his face.
"Sorry to disappoint but I'm more of a coffee guy." I remarked when he kept escaping in superspeed while I chased after him continuously.
"Urgh, you are just like your mother, no wonder you resemble her so much." He giggled and suddenly paced forward to attack me with his knife. But before he was close enough he opened his mouth and a sound hit me that was so loud that I could not hear for a few seconds and lost my orientation.
"Argh" I was hit on my back feeling the knife deeply slice my flesh.
"Even killing you feels the same." Peter's voice got more distorted and crazy by the second.
I felt the wound close up quickly but a sudden rage overcame my body instead. What did he just say? What did that fucking asshole just say...?!
"Oh, you didn't know? Haha, it was me who murdered your parents that night. Not the gifted groups, not Inoue but me!" He reached out his arms to the sides and smiled to the ceiling.
"They left their children behind to go back helping their comrades and oh no! They were taking the lead and starting to have the upper hand! How could I have let them win this? Nonono they were supposed to die!
So I killed them, hah! What's that expression on your face Rune? I finally see a resemblance between me and you." He excidetly giggled but I didn't even have the nerve to say something back to him. I was here to take his powers from him... and if he died in the process it was his fault.
"Come here, Rune." He smirked and in the next moment he jumped up with insane force before he punched through the ceiling and disappeared.
The whole basement started shaking like an earthquake and parts of the ceiling came down.
In shock I stumbled back and fell.
He had escaped outside while I was caught in here. My strength wasn't enough to jump that high nor get out of here once everything was buried in rocks.
"RUNE!" A loud yell was heard and through the dust and noise I could make out Raven in front of the exit.
I didn't waste time and ran toward him just before a large part of the ceiling blocked it.
"What are you doing here?!" I pulled Raven with me in normal speed.
"I'm helping you out, I think the whole eastern part of the basement just collapsed and Peter is out there."
He said in exhaust and I faintly realized that his wounds had gotten worse and that he walked in an odd way. Why did he come down here when he was injured like that?!
[Raven]
Rune was pulling me behind him with such force that my wrist started hurting badly. His face was distorted with anger and his eyes were gleaming madly.
"I know damn right that he is out there so do me a favor and stick to the plan. Get away from here!" He raised his voice at me and basically through me out of the totally damaged entrance door. The area in front of it was filled with corpses of those soldiers whose life I had taken while many others had started heading in direction of the other gifted groups.
Even though I had tried to stop them, not a single one believed me that attacking the gifted groups meant their death.
"Why did you kill them... they were powerless after I took their gifted abilities...?!" I was standing there with my hands on my knees being at the limit of my energy while Rune had turned around to all sides in total stress.
"WHY DID YOU KILL THEM?!" He was suddenly right in front of me and grabbed the collar of my jacket forcefully but I didn't bulge. Now that I had a closer look on his eyes I noticed how the purple color that had once shone brightly like an amethyst was now dark with barely a violet shade. It sent shivers down my spine... and it scared me.
"Rune." I put my hand on his shoulder carefully.
"These people did not give up even after you took their gifted powers. I had to defend myself but I wasn't the one who killed them... they killed themselves rather than losing to us." I looked him in the eye and saw how his expression fell before he slowly let go of me again.
"I- I'm sorry I-" he stuttered and grabbed his hair in panic before he flinched hardly when an explosion was heard in direction of the gifted armies. A large cloud of smoke emitted from the field behind the forest.
"Hey, we have not lost yet. You still need to take down Peter Falcon or every death, everything we tried to achieve will be for nothing. I know you can do this, Rune." I pulled him closer and into a hug feeling how his body was still the same as before.
Right, this was still Rune Falcon. The Rune Falcon that had decided to love me despite all my flaws. So I would never abandon him. Never.
"I know." The younger answered and when he raised his face the determination shone brightly again.
"I love you, Raven."
In the next second I was thrown on his back and he carried me in superspeed to wherever the explosion had come from.
I was dropped off somewhere next to a large rock about 200 meters away from the battlefield and held my stomach to not throw up.
Rune had already ran away so I couldn't yell after him. Why did he not take me closer? I was still in condition to fight!
"Vince!" I pressed the button on my earpiece and started walking.
"Raven, for gods sake you and Rune haven't been answering for over 20 minutes! Peter has invaded the gifted army and started blindly killing. We're losing one soldier after another! Where is Rune?!"
He sounded exhausted and even through the speakers I could hear the noise of the battle.
"He-"
Again the earth started shaking.
"Wait, wait Rune is here. He just smashed Peter down on the ground."
Vince suddenly shouted out and without a second thought I started running.
Faster and faster while screams, gunshots and other horrible sounds were heard closer and closer.
When I finally broke through the end of the forest the field was in total chaos while at the center two shadows where battling each other with powers like gods. I wasn't even able to tell which one of them was Peter and which one was Rune.
How could I get to him? It was basically impossible to fight myself through all those people. But I had to try!
Just when I took the first step, someone's arm blocked the way and I was already prepared for combat when I saw it was Hyeonsu Hwang.
His white suit had not a single stain on it and neither did he seem like he had lifted a finger yet.
"You can't get through there Raven. You already failed your plan so don't make it worse." He said with a kind of confidence that made me want to punch the hell out of him.
"I'm sorry but I won't stay here and watch my people die out there. What kind of leader are you to abandon them like that...?" I coldly spoke but didn't see the need to chat with him any longer.
"No, you don't get what I'm saying. If you go after Rune now you'll only be a bother to him."
"Let go of me." I calmly spoke but if he didn't do what I said I'd have to solve this the difficult way.
"Listen, you are blinded by your affection for Rune but think like the skilled leading personality that you apparently are for once. You will be the next leader of the LA Inoue headquarters so I have an interest in keeping you alive. Going in there is suicide." he pleaded. To be honest, I was aware that what he said was right and that I wasn't thinking clearly, too. But I had sworn myself to always protect Rune and never abandon him and I had never broken a promise in my life.
"I said let go." I repeated myself and after a few seconds of nothing happening I pulled my arm away harshly and threw myself into the crowd of chaos and death.
I survived covid... quarantine really sucks...
