System, are you messing with me? - Chapter 34: Chapter 34

Wu Kang silently scurried through the deserted streets of the town. Only his laboured breathing could be heard in the dark night and from time to time another pair of feet sounded on the rough asphalt behind him.
But Wu Kang didn't care about others following him at the moment and only kept his eyes locked on the path ahead. He didn't stop for even a minute to take in some well needed air and quickened his pace instead. He was already running by now and threw cashion to the wind as he preshed past dimly lit restaurants and brothels full of activity. His goal was already in view and it didn't take more than a fast sprint for him to finally leave civilisation.
Wu Kang breathed a sight of relieve and pressed the bundle of clothes he had been carrying the entire time closer to his chest. His steps also slowed down by a lot, when he finally saw a rundown cabin appear in front of him.
It was a broken hut build out of wood. The door was only leaning agains the entrance to keep out unwanted animals. The glass of the windows were broken and scattered on the floor inside and parts of the wall were already crumbling because of the rot. The roof was luckily still mostly intact, except for the many holes that couldn't keep the rain out, even if you tried filling them.
"I'm back Zhou Feng."
"Oh. Finally. You were gone for almost the entire night. I thought you have run off."
Wu Kang grimly looked at his furious girlfriend and secretly sighed in his heart. The woman was getting more and more frustrated by their new living situation. It has already been a few weeks since the two of them escaped from the military base and found this little cabin to hide in. It was the best that they could get at the moment as their faces were known to all the people living on this planet. Even finding food and clothes was a taxing task.
Wu Kang had to do some odd jobs here and there to earn even a little bit of money, but he had to try his best to take care of his love to the best of his ability. Even if these abilities were not enough to fill her constant growling stomach.
"Come here and see what I got us. There is some bred and cheese. I even got my hands on a fresh apple. Just for you."
"An apple. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? Do I look as if I care about some stupid apple? Didn't you bring back anything worthwhile at all? You have been gone for hours and THAT is what you actually dare to present me?"
Wu Kang flinched as soon as Zhou Feng started to raise her voice. It sounded like the screeching of nails on slate. Even the birds in the distance panicked from the sudden assult and flew off.
"Please calm down. That is sadly all that I could get today. The wage that I get for my work is only enough for the basics. I wasn't even able to get some new clothes from it."
"THEN WORK MORE. See what I have become. I'm a sceleton, my hair is greezy and my clothes are dirty and ripped. Do you enjoy looking at me like that or what? Is it fun for you to see me detoriate like this?"
"Of corse not. Honey. I'm really trying my best. I promise that everything will turn out alright, ok? I will take up some more work for us, alright?"
"You better. This life is hell. I don't want to live like this for a second longer."
Zhou Feng staggered over to the cloth of food held out to her and stared at the stuff in disgust. In the end her hunger won though and she took the entire piece of bread for herself. The apple stayed completely ignored.
"This stuff tastes disgusting. How could anybody bare to eat it. Is this really all you have brought back? Or are you just feeding me the leftovers of your pricely dinner?"
"Of corse not. Zhou Feng. This is all that I could buy. I'm sorry."
"Cut the crap. Who are you trying to fool? You never eat much of the food you bring back yourself. I bet it's because you already ate your fill beforehand. But I'm sick and tired of this. You useless piece of trash have tossed me around for too long. I can't take it anymore. I am so hungry."
Zhou Feng abruptly stuffed the rest of the bread into her mouth and strode back to Wu Kang's side. Her steps were shacky from the strain but the determination kept her from stumbling. Her hands were clenched at her sides and her teeth were bared in a silent growl. At this moment she looked more like a fierce animal ready to punce than a human being. She had gone completely mad.
In one quick movement Zhou Feng picked up the wrinkeled apple and threw it at Wu Kang's head. The fruit burst by impact and distributed it's innards all over the guy's head.
Wu Kang stared at his girlfriend in shock and looked at one piece of the hard obtained fruit as it slowly slid down a strain of his hair.
"Wha- ? Zhou Feng?"
No matter how confused Wu Kang was by the behavior of his girl friend, the woman didn't think of explaining herself at all and only crazily laughed at the stupified look on his face.
"Hahahahaha. Wu Kang. Oh. Wu Kang. That look on your face. Are you unhappy, because I wasted such a precious fruit? If it is so important to you, then why don't you eat it of the floor?"
Without allowing Wu Kang to get his wits back again, Zhou Feng quickly grabbed one of the wooden sticks off the floor and thrust it right into the middle of the guy's stomach. It made a sickening squealching sound when it pierced through the skin and blood steadily flowed from the wound, down the male's clothing and dripped onto the floor.
Wu Kang oppened his mouth in a silent scream. His expression twisted into one filled with pain and betrayel, but when he tried to suck in some air to say something, only the wet gurgling of blood could be heard. Not even a single curse could leave the man's lips anymore.
He tried again and again to call out to the female in front of him until he abruptly fell silent and dropped motionless to the ground. Right in front of the feet of the stupidly grinning Zhou Feng.

Back at the military base, Shu Ning scoffed at the information he had just received.
It had already been a few months since the Female Lead escaped from confinement and on Shu ning's orders, Alpha had kept a close eye on her the entire time. It was a boring task, but the system followed the woman around without interfering anyway. When there was no need to do so anymore, Alpha finally returned to report on Zhou Feng's life.
Alpha had just reached the point of Wu Kang's demise and Shu Ning could oly shake his head perplexed by the guy's devotion. That man had been too stupid and trusting the entire time. It was no surprize, that he ended up being killed by the very person he loved and tried to protect. It was a bit pitifull.
Shu Ning: "Sight. I knew that it would end up like that. Wu Kang was completely brainwashed by the Female Lead. Sometimes I even wondered sometimes if the woman actually had such a power. Tell. What happened next?"
System: "The Female Lead ran out of food the next day, so she went into the town to steal some. But the people noticed and recognized her, because she was stupid enough to go in broad daylight without disguise. Even I know that that's a bad idea. As a result, she got beaten up by an angry pulb and just barely managed to flee. When she came back to the hut, it was completely surrounded by flames. The Female Lead stayed in the forest for a day and ate berries that she found, but then returned to the city. In the end, she started working in a brothel to earn money and died yesterday in the middle of recieving a client."
Shu Ning: "In the middle of recieving a client? What an end. Where were the soldier Sun Zhilong send to watch her?"
System: "They followed her around and kept watch. But they never interfered."
Shu Ning: "Good. But the Protagonist of this world is dead now. Will there be no repercussion? I thought the world would break down or something."
System: "Oh no. Once the Protagonist dies, the world chooses a new one to carry the fate of the world. There is no repercussion."
Shu Ning: "That means I'm allowed to kill the Protagonist? That would make things a lot more easier in the future."
System: "NO. Please don't kill the Protagonist. You are an outsider to these world's and have to be more careful. You might be allowed to interfere in the plot and inderectly cause the Protagonist's death, but please don't actually murder them."
Shu Ning: "Alright. Fine. Don't yell. That hurts my head."
Shu Ning raised his hand and pressed it against his slightly pounding forhead. His brows were slightly furrowed in concentration as he conversed with the System inside of his head and his lips were pressed in a straight line.
"Is everything alright?"
The deep voice of Sun Zhilong ripped Shu Ning out of his conversation with Alpha. The man was standing right beside him, in full army uniform, giving orders to the multitude of Soldiers digging a hole in the ground.
Early that morning, Shu Ning and Sun Zhilong had grabed a few trusted Soldiers and dragged them over to the Villa of the Female Lead to started searching for the remains of Zhou An. They had descided that the teen would be placed right beside his grandparents and receive a proper burial. It was the least that they could do.
"I'm fine. How are things going?"
"Zhou An has been found. They are transfering him to a coffin at the moment."
Shu Ning nodded in understanding and remaind silent the rest of the wait as the Soldiers carried the ready made coffin over to the hole they had dug.
It was made out of african ebony, whitch was said to be extremely durable and strong. The entire casket was black in color except for the white deer drawn at the head of it. It was seen as the symbol of freedom, purity and honor. The inside was filled with down feathers that were surrounded by a red sheet. All in all, the wooden case was even worthy of a high ranking soldier.
A few minutes later the task was done and everyone slowly moved behind the casket to follow it over to the cementry. There the rest of the the high ranking military and some of the civilians gathered to watch the proceedings. Even two of the elders stood a bit offside, begrudgingly saying a few words when Zhou An was lowered into the ground.

A year after the burrial, Shu Ning and Sun Zhilong finally married each other under the beautiful and bright night sky. It was a small celebration with only their closest friends and family and after the festivities were done, the two newly weds boarded a starship to travel around.
For a short while, the world returned to it's peacefull state again and everyone slowly forgot about Zhou Feng and Wu Kang. But then the Sphinx started to rear their heads again and the military got busy with preparing for another war.
A few months later, Shu Ning and Sun Zhilong returned to their home planet. They had heard about the Sphinx as well and descided to come back earlier to lend a helping hand.
With the help of the two, the military managed to create a bomb, filled with a poisonous gas, that only harmed the Sphinx and dropped over their nest on Samadon. The gas flooded over the planet and killed almost the entire monster population. The rest that miraculously survived, were later killed by the Soldiers in a one sided battle.
The Sphinx residing on other planet's soon followed their dead comrads as well and humanity finally breathed a sight of relieve.
Shu Ning and Sun Zhilong left the military at the age of sixty and settled down at a nearby planet at a selfbuild beach house. It was a modest sized wooden cabin, just big enough for a small family to live in. But for Shu Ning it was the perfect little place to spend the rest of their remaining time in. Just the two of them.
At the age of ninety, Sun Zhilong quietly passed away in his sleep and was soon followed by Shu Ning. Both of their remaining dead bodys were found by the visiting Liu Chen and a big burrial was held in their honor. Of corse the two were put to rest in the same grave because no one wanted to seperate the couple even after death.
