System, are you messing with me? - Chapter 38: Chapter 38

It's been three long days since Shu Ning arrived in this new world and slowly but surely he was giving up on Alpha ever retuning to him. The System had not even send him a message about it's whereabouts and there was no way that he could escape this room without help at all. The future really looked bleak at the moment.
Shu Ning indifferently pulled at his tied hands again, as he had been doing for quite some time already, but all that did was rip open the skin of his wrists even more. The bounds and the corner of the blankets have already been drenched in blood because of it and the only reason he hadn't stopped yet was the fact that at least the pain had dulled into a beareable throb.
A sudden bang against the wall outside of the room startled Shu Ning enough to pull him out of the negative thoughts he had been spiraling into. His heart was pounding fast inside of his ribcage in fright, but after no more sounds followed after the first one, his nerves settled again.
It still irritated Shu Ning to no ends though, that no matter how many times he had to listen to those strange noises, he just couldn't help but tense up everytime to prepare for an attack. An attack that would not come as there were no Sphinx in close visinity anymore that he had to be on constant guard about. With a defeted sight, Shu Ning closed his eyes and relaxed back into the bedding, hoping to block out all the other noises from outside.
Just then another thump sounded and this time there was no silence that followed after it. Footsteps hurried along the corridor, the low murrmur of people could barely be heard through the thick door and from time to time a chocked of scream or low rumbling could be made out.
This time Shu Ning lay on his bed completely motionless as he listened to the feet coming closer to his room. Then, when the people were close enough to almost reach the handle, an animalistic scream tore through the air and seconds after that all chaos broke loose.
Men and women outside started yelling at each other, something heavy got thrown at the closed door untill it dented inwards, ripping and squelching sounds passed through the small space that appeared between wall and door and shortly afterwards a black and red liquid steadily flowed from underneath the white door and drenched everything in its path with its colours.
By that time Shu Ning's eyes were almost falling out of it's socket and his heart beat was pounding loud and clear inside of the white room. With one last heavy exhale of breath, the door completely burst from it's hinges and now there was nothing obstructing his view on the perpetrator any longer.
Just..... It was no animal as he thought it was. It was a young man wearing a white lab coat and plack wants that had a long tear at the side of one leg. He was probably one of the doctors in this institude and Shu Ning was about to ask the other about the noise from outside when the youth's expressionless face suddenly broke out in a feral grin.
Step by step the man slowly advanced on Shu Ning until the other stood right beside his bed and dazedly looked down at his bloody wrists. A single drop of red liquid roled down the pale skin of his arm and over the silver grid until it dripped down onto the red puddle already gathered on the blanket. All the while the new arrival had been intently watching the drop of blood make it's way and as soon as it disapeared it seemed as if some kind of spell had been broken and the youth groweled lowly before he trew himself  at shu Ning's helpless form.
System: "Hello Host. I'm back again. Did you miss me?"
Shu Ning: "Fuck you Alpha. Where were you? Never mind that. Exchange my ponts for a dagger. And do it fast."
System: "A dagger? Why tha-"
Shu Ning: "NOW!"
Fortunatelly the System didn't hesitate any longer, be it because of the sharp teeth so close to it's hosts arm or the desperation in his voice was unclear, but a heart beat later the cool handle of a short knife touched the inside of Shu Ning's palm.
As fast as he could, he cut the bounds on his right wrist and then thrust the tip of his dagger into the throat of his attacker. It gave a disgustingly wet sound as it cut right through the artery and the young man staggered back from the sharp pain.
At least that was what Shi Ning thought got the other to back off, but not even a second later the attacker snapped his teeth at his body anew, with no pain or slugishness in his movements at all.
Shu Ning: "Fuck! What is that? No human should be able to move with an injury like that."
System: "I don't know. But if fighting won't work, then maybe we should run. That thing makes me nauseaus."
Shu Ning: "It makes you nauseaus? Do you even have the nessesary organs for that?"
Shu Ning hurriedly cut loose his other arm and jumped out of the bed just as the creature lunged at that spot. A low growling sounded from the obviously irritated young man and with a snapp of his head, two bottomless black eyes bore intself through his skull.
Shu Ning: "You are right Alpha. Sometimes flight is the better alternative. I do not want to kill a fellow human after all. At least until I know for sure that it isn't one."
Shu Ning ripped his eyes away from the insane man and bolted out of the door. Luckily there were no other people in sight as he ran down the corridor and rounded the corner. Only the splatter of blood and some hair and fabric could be seen sticking to the walls and floors.
A feral scream sounded from the room, Shu Ning had vacated and shortly afterwards more thumping, crashing and growling could be heard comming from all around. The eery silence only disrupted by animalistic noises, panting or running feet reminded him a bit of those horror movies his friends liked to watch back in the day and for a short moment those thoughts even brought a tiny smile on his pale face.
But that smile fell away just as abruptly as it appeared, as Shu Ning skidded to a halt around the next corner. Two pairs of black eyes stared at him from a few meters away and the shivers it gave him was deffinitely exactly the same as from the creature he had just left behind. Just this time the clothes the two were wearing was obviously patient attire and they were both female with even longer and sharper nails.
"Oh damn it all."
Shu Ning quickly turned back the other way, away from the women, and could just make out the grunting of their vocals and the thumping of their feet as they quickly scrambled after him.
Shu Ning: "I can't keep this up for much longer. This body is way too weak for such strenious exersize. There must be some place I could rest."
System: "Host, turn right at the next intersection and then enter the room at the far back. It has a heavy iron door and should provide some sort of safety."
Shu Ning: "Thanks."
Shu Ning hastily complied and ran down the next hall without slowing down. He tripped a few times over his tired feet though and just for a moment it looked as if he would not be able to reach the mentioned door. The females were hot on his heels, breathing wetly down his neck, and one of them was reaching out her sharp claws to grab at his hair, when finally.... finally the door loomed over him.
With a new found strength, Shu Ning sprinted to the safe haven and slipped through the tiny gap that was luckily left open. Once inside, he stemmed his entire weight against the iron and pushed the door closed. This sapped the last of his strength though as not long after he slid down to the ground as his legs would not continue carrying him.
Shu Ning: "We did it. God. I never ever want to do something like that again. This body is way too weak, my eyes constantly turn blurry and running only happens in slowmotion."
System: "hmmm."
Shu Ning: "What are you so quiet about? Where were you even?"
System: "That....."
Shu Ning: "You don't want to say? Fine. But the next time tell me before suddenly dissapearing, you hear? I was in a total bind without you..... Literaly."
System: "Yes, Host. I'm sorry."
Shu Ning: "Alright. Can you check what is going on out there? How many of those things are there and are there still normal humans around?"
System: "Well. From what I can tell there are a lot of...... of.... ähm... those things out there. Mostly patients and some of the nurses and doctors. I can't feel any other beings though."
Shu Ning: "So no normal humans left anymore, huh? Oh yeah. What about the plot? It shouldn't have taken so long for it to download, right?"
System: "Ah ..... T-That..... Well, you see. As I left right after you left the system space, I didn't get a chance to start the download, so...."
Shu Ning: "..."
System: "I'm really sorry. That won't happen again. It was so unprofesional of me. I'm so so so sorry. (＞＜；；) "
Shu Ning: "....Just give me the damn plot."
Shu Ning lifted one of his exhausted arms to press his fengers lightly against his temple where a dull throb was starting to grow, that had nothing to do with the plot. Not that the headache didn't get worse once he actually did start reading about this world.
The protagonist of this world was named Xu Dan. His parents and him were not well off but they were also not poor and lived a decent life. But when Xu Dan was twelve years old his parents unfortunately died in a car accident and some friends of theirs take him in. It was a nice couple that had a son just one year older than Xu Dan, but in comparison to the protaginist, that other child came from a rich background  with loving parents and anything he could wish for.
Because of that, Xu Dan did not like that new older brother of his and instead of adjusting to his new family and loving and cherishing them, he tried to get the parents favour all to himself. To achieve that though, Xu Dan had to act extra nice to the parents biological son and grow closer to him until there was an oportunity to strike. That oportunity finally came when Xu Dan was fiveteen and his older brother started to act strange. He let life continue for a bit longer untill the parents were exhausted and desparing from the sudden illness of their oldest son. So it did not take Xu Dan a lot of persuation to get them to send their own son to a mental health facility. With the biological child gone, the protagonist used the chance to curry favor with the parents and make the focus all their love on him.
It would have probably been quite the stable and secure life had things continued like this, but shortly after Xu Dan's sixteenth birthday, the zombie acopalypse breaks out. The parents flee with Xu Dan and descide to travel to B-city for safety while completely forgetting about their own child in the facility. On the way to B-city Xu Dan and the parents encoulter lots and lots of zombies and the protagonist get's bitten by one of them. He falls ill because of the virus but instead of transforming into a man eating monster himself, he awakens with dual abilities. Healing and water. Two of the most important things to posses in th appocalypse.
A few days later, Xu Dan abandons the parents along the way to B-city and they do not survive the night. The protagonist though, fights his way towards the Base B-city had become and becomes one of the powerhouses of the city. He uses his nnew found status to his advantage to get closer to the Base's chief and aids the ability users in fighting against the zombies when the first zombie tide arrives at the Base. Xu Dan get's hailed as a hero from the towns people without abitilies and the Base's chief gives him his own villa and stock of cristal nucleo as revard.
A year later the zombie king get's born and many ability users die in battle or dissapear after encountering the king. After almost no ability users are left anymore, the Bases's chief sends all of the remaining ones, including Xu Dan, into battle.
After a brutal fight, the zombie king finally dies at the hands of the chief's son. But as the chief's son was heavily injured in the process of it, Xu Dan uses the chance that he got and killed the weakened man. In the end it was only the protagonist that returned alive from the harsh battle and becomes humanities saviour.
In the years after the fight, Xu Dan happily lives his life in the safety of the Base and protected by it's citizens untill he died of old age. And decades later, the rest of humanity perishes into nothing as well.
