"Don't." Lorraine's voice was soft, almost trembling. She curled her fingers, careful not to brush against his belt, and turned her face away from the heat in his eyes. "We're in the living room. Stop."
Even in the heat of passion, Lorraine still remembered that Queenie was living here with them. She was afraid that Queenie would know this.
"So what? Isn't this even more exciting? Don't you like it?" he murmured, his lips dangerously close to her ear. He let out a slow breath against her skin, the scent of cologne mixed with his heat, making her ears tingle.
Such blatantly flirtatious words made Lorraine's face burn even hotter. She turned her head away, too embarrassed to look at him.
Eugene let go of her hand and slowly pulled her dress up. The living room lights were off, and the dim glow cast soft shadows across her legs, making them impossible to look away from.
Lorraine hadn't expected Eugene to be so eager. She quickly clamped her legs together and pressed both hands against his chest. "Eugene, we can't do this here."
"What? I've been starving all this time, and you're still not gonna let me have a bite, huh?" Eugene said.
Lorraine didn't know what to say. Eugene barely had to lift a finger—just a few words from him, and she was already trembling.
There was no resisting Eugene. His quiet persistence left her no room to breathe, and all Lorraine could do was give way. She said, "Stop it. We can't do this. Queenie is—"
Eugene let out a low chuckle. He reached up and gave her earlobe a gentle pinch. Then he lowered his head, his lips tracing the curve of her neck with deliberate slowness.
"Queenie is not home," he whispered. His hand moved lower, tugging at the last barrier between them, but Lorraine caught his wrist, looking firm.
"What if she suddenly comes back?" Lorraine said anxiously. Her heart wasn't as strong as Eugene's and she definitely lacked the confidence to be so bold.
"Hey, don't try to stop me." A smile played on his lips, and his tone was soft and indulgent, but his eyes gave away everything he was holding back.
He teased, "How about we go somewhere else?" He got off her and pulled her into his arms. Their eyes locked, a mischievous smile curling at his lips before he pressed them firmly against hers.
Lorraine was already dazed by his kiss. When he claimed her lips again, stealing every breath, her whole body melted as if a gentle warmth was blooming from within.
Eugene gently laid Lorraine down on the bed and eagerly pressed down on her. Annoyed by the dress she wore, he grabbed the delicate fabric and ripped it apart.
"What are you doing?" Lorraine pouted at him, her eyes glistening with anger. She thought, 'That was my favorite dress.'
Her hair spilled over her shoulders, and her smooth skin was exposed to the air. The sight made Eugene's chest tighten, his gaze growing intense.
The soft pink fabric of her bra clung tightly, hinting at curves that stirred something deep inside him, making his breath catch. His hand moved smoothly under her arm and around her back, skillfully unclasping her bra.
Lorraine gasped as a sudden chill swept across her exposed chest. Instinctively, she crossed her arms to cover herself, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.
Eugene forced himself to sit up. With one hand, he unbuttoned his shirt, while the other was already tugging impatiently at his belt buckle.
Eugene had stripped off all his clothing in mere seconds. Looking down at Lorraine beneath him—now clad only in her panties—he grew more eager.
Lorraine looked up at him, shy yet carrying a tenderness she couldn't quite put into words. Eugene traced his fingers over her skin, sending shivers that rippled through her. Just as he was about to go further, something happened.
Still hazy with desire, Lorraine suddenly sensed something was wrong. She felt a sudden warmth spreading low inside her, subtle but unmistakable.
"I—" Lorraine stammered. She quickly pushed him away and sat up, staring at the stain on the pink panties he was holding and blushing.
She was a little embarrassed. Seeing Eugene's stormy expression, she couldn't help but feel wronged, thinking, 'Well, I didn't expect this either. Besides, I wasn't thinking about that, okay? Just look at Eugene's face. It's so hilarious.'
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of the mess and quickly turned away, pulling a thin blanket around herself. She curled up, watching him quietly.
"What's there to hide? I've seen it all," Eugene said, his voice low and strained, barely holding back desire. He wasn't prepared for this at all.
"Sorry." Lorraine stammered, "Could you please give me a minute? I-I need to take care of this."
Eugene frowned and shot her a look. Then he abruptly lay back on the bed, openly sizing her up with undisguised appreciation.
After a brief moment of hesitation, Lorraine quickly wrapped herself in the blanket and got up. She took new underwear and a pad from the closet and walked toward the bathroom.
Eugene was left burning with unfulfilled desire. Frustrated, he pulled a blanket over himself to quell the fire raging inside.
When Lorraine returned, Eugene took her hand with a possessive urgency, and by the end of the night, her hand was almost numb. Still unsatisfied, he marked her skin with tender bites and kisses, finally letting her catch a break.
Lorraine woke up the next morning with her head on Eugene's arm. Her arm ached so much that she could barely move it.
Eugene had been awake for a while but didn't want to get up yet. He ran his fingers through her hair, enjoying the tender intimacy between them. With her around, he felt that life had become much more interesting.
As Lorraine nuzzled in Eugene's arms, she suddenly thought of something very important. "Did you find your mom in Lesvinton?"
"No, I looked everywhere in Newford. I even checked the areas around town, but I still couldn't find any trace of her," said he.
Lorraine said, "Don't worry, Eugene. I'm sure you'll find her soon."
Eugene nodded and said, "I've got a full team working on it. If there's any news, they'll let me know right away."
There was so much going on at the Moore Group, so there was no way he could just stick around over there.
Lorraine nestled closer into Eugene's embrace, wrapping her arms around his waist. "You'll find her. Don't lose hope. I believe in you."
"I know. I haven't lost hope. I just came back to expand the search a bit. She's unpredictable. Who knows where she might be?" Eugene said.
Lorraine comforted him for a while longer. When she tried to sit up in bed, Eugene pulled her back into his arms, showering her with lingering kisses before finally letting her get out of bed.
Eugene drove Lorraine to work. The black Bentley rolled down the crowded avenue, and soon, they were only two blocks away from the Moore Group.
Lorraine gazed out the car window at the familiar scenery, then turned playfully to Eugene who was driving, and said with a smile, "Drop me off at the next intersection. I'll walk to the office."
Eugene shot her a dismissive look and said, "Is that necessary?"
"Of course, it is. Just drop me off here, please." She didn't even notice how her voice had started to sound a little playful.
Eugene reached over and rubbed Lorraine's head, smiling. "Are you sure you want to walk there?"
"Yeah," Lorraine said firmly, blushing. She thought, 'It's just my period. I'm not dying or anything.'
Eugene shrugged and pointed to his cheek with a playful glint in his eyes. "Do you wanna get out? Gotta give me something first."
Lorraine caught that smug look in Eugene's eyes and didn't want to let him have his way. However, she knew that if she didn't play along, he would probably just insist on driving her all the way to the office.
Having no other choice, Lorraine could only lean toward Eugene, press a quick kiss on his cheek, and immediately pull away.
Eugene didn't push for a deeper kiss this time. Instead, he flashed a satisfied smile, pulled over at the next intersection, let Lorraine out, and left.
As the car pulled away and disappeared from view, she took a deep breath and turned toward the Moore Group, her steps light and steady.
However, the moment she arrived at the gate of the Moore Group, she saw an old lady in a headscarf and oversized designer sunglasses that obscured most of her face, making recognition impossible.
The old lady was crouched by a pillar near the building, sneaking glances around with furtive movements—though what exactly she was up to remained unclear.
As Lorraine approached, she realized the old lady looked strikingly familiar. Upon closer inspection, she was surprised to realize that it was Maria, whom she saw in the sanatorium last time, but she didn't know what she was doing here.
"Ma'am, what are you doing here?" Lorraine asked softly as she gently tapped Maria's shoulder.
Startled, Maria, who had been glancing around, froze in alarm. With a quick push of her glasses and a tug at her headscarf, she turned slowly around.
Seeing Lorraine's face, she immediately brightened up, took her hand, and said with a smile, "Oh, it's you, my dear."
"Yeah, come with me," Lorraine said softly, noticing the bustling crowd around them. She guided Maria aside, and the latter didn't stop until they reached a quiet corner.
"Ma'am, why are you here? You're supposed to be at thesanatorium. It's such a long way. How did you even get here?" Lorraine said.
It was hot today, and Maria injured her foot a few days ago. Lorraine didn't understand how she managed to come all the way downtown alone.
"Shh, lower your voice," Maria whispered as she peered out from the corner, her eyes fixed on the gate of the Moore Group. "I took a taxi here. Listen, my son works here, and I want to see if he brought that bitch with him."
