Eugene's window slid down just an inch, enough for his icy sidelong look.
Stephen lounged in his seat, shirt carelessly unbuttoned, radiating spoiled arrogance.
The man in the Ferrari's passenger seat was Kevin. He had delicately handsome features and silken hair cascading past his shoulders, every inch the picture of a refined bottom.
As the light turned green, Stephen averted his gaze. The car accelerated smoothly, leaving the Ferrari behind.
Stephen's words hung in the air, but met with complete silence from Lorraine.
Eugene glanced sideways without thinking, only to find Lorraine had drifted off to sleep.
Her breathing came soft and even, those long lashes casting delicate shadows across her cheeks. She'd drawn her knees up, curling into herself like a child. It was an unconscious posture of someone who'd learned to protect themselves.
"Mr. Moore," Isaac murmured from the front, checking the mirror, "we're at the bus stop."
Eugene barely glanced at him. "Pull over here," he said. "You two can leave."
"Yes, sir." Daryl and Isaac exited swiftly, leaving Eugene and Lorraine alone.
Meanwhile, the Ferrari came to an abrupt halt before reaching its destination.
Kevin draped an arm over Stephen's shoulder, leaning in with a teasing grin. "What's this? Feeling adventurous tonight? The car, really?"
Stephen shivered as Kevin's breath warmed his neck. Cradling Kevin's face, he kissed him softly. "Anywhere you want... But before that... Did you notice a woman in that Rolls-Royce earlier?"
Kevin pulled back with a playful pout, swatting Stephen's chest. "What woman? With me around, you shouldn't even be looking."
"I'm serious." Stephen frowned. "In the back seat—was there a woman?"
The dim streetlights had made it hard to tell. All he'd glimpsed was a silhouette turned away from him, blurred and indistinct. He couldn't be sure.
"Why concern yourself with others?" Kevin peeled off his shirt and reclined in the seat, patting the space beside him. "Get over here and ride me properly, babe. Grind on me until I forget my name."
Stephen leaned forward, fingers working at Kevin's belt. Just as he was losing himself in the moment, a sudden jolt of recognition hit him—that woman looked familiar.
Lorraine stirred, unsure how long she'd been asleep. As she sat up, she found a suit jacket covering her. Its subtle woodsmoke scent wrapped around her like an embrace. The fabric still held residual warmth.
Outside, Eugene stood motionless by the car window. Snowflakes drifted down from the branches above, vanishing into his hair. The misty streetlight softened his sharp features, bathing him in an almost ethereal glow.
Still half-dreaming, Lorraine murmured, "You..."
Eugene turned at the sound, his eyes locking onto hers with startling intensity.
"Did you teleport here or something?" Lorraine blinked in confusion. She couldn't think of any other way he could have arrived so fast.
Eugene studied her blank expression for a moment. Then he flickered away his barely-smoked cigarette and crushed it underfoot.
Without a word, he opened the car door and retrieved the jacket she'd shoved under the seat. He shrugged it back on with effortless grace.
A cold gust swept through the car, snapping Lorraine fully awake. Suddenly aware of how foolish she must have looked, she bit her lip and hugged herself for warmth.
"Bus stop?" Eugene asked casually.
"Yeah, I..." Lorraine's hands flew to her sides, then her eyes widened in alarm. "My things! I left everything at the Shaw residence! Could you... would you come back with me to get them?"
