Lorraine couldn't promise him anything, let alone answer his question.
After all, she was flat broke and now had a baby on the way. She didn't even dare imagine what her future would look like.
She reached out and gave his chest a gentle push. "I'm going to take a bath. Let me go."
"Let's go together," Eugene said, standing up and pulling her along with him.
Lorraine's cheeks turned bright red. She thought maybe he hadn't heard her right. "I'm going to take a bath, not eat! Why would we go together?"
"Well, your pregnancy kind of snuck up on us. None of the bathrooms here have anti-slip mats, and I'm worried you'll fall," he said matter-of-factly, already leading her toward the bathroom without hesitation.
Lorraine was completely thrown off. "No, no, you really don't have to. Actually, maybe I'll just skip the shower tonight."
"How can you sleep with me if you don't bathe?" Eugene said, horrified at the thought of someone getting into bed without a bath.
'I never said I wanted to sleep with you!' Lorraine thought, almost in tears as he began slowly removing her clothes, piece by piece.
The bathtub was filled to the brim. As soon as Lorraine got in, she curled up like a little turtle, not moving an inch.
Eugene sat beside her and patted her head. "If you keep curling up like that, our baby's not going to be comfortable. Or are you secretly hoping I'll join you for a bath and help you stretch out a bit?"
Lorraine nearly choked on the bathwater. "No way!"
She slowly stretched out her legs and then hurriedly covered her chest with her hands.
"Don't bother covering up. There's not much to see anyway, and you'll get a rash if you keep your hands there," Eugene teased.
Lorraine nearly exploded, thinking, 'Sure, maybe they're a little small, but they look fine! Does he have no sense of taste?' Still, she stubbornly kept her hands in front of her chest, not budging an inch.
Her smooth skin appeared even more fragile in the water, like a stranded mermaid, soft and captivating. Eugene's gaze burned with intensity as he reached out firmly and pulled her hands away.
"Hey! What are you doing?" Lorraine shrieked.
The sight hit him like a bolt out of the blue, and his body responded without hesitation. The intensity in Eugene's eyes was on the verge of exploding.
"Why are you yelling? I'm just checking if you've got a rash," he said with a gentle smile.
Lorraine was at a loss for words. She couldn't even figure out how he'd come up with such a ridiculous excuse.
She pulled her hands back and slowly made her way toward the edge of the tub. Thankfully, the bathtub was huge, practically the size of a small swimming pool, so she could keep her distance from him.
She found a corner she thought was safe and didn't even look at him. Then she lay there, perfectly still. Suddenly, she heard the sound of water behind her. He was getting in.
Lorraine was so shocked that she didn't dare turn her head. Behind her, Eugene kept closing the distance, his strong, masculine presence enveloping her.
Eugene didn't bother taking off his clothes. He just sat down and pulled her into his arms from behind. "Dodging so quickly. Aren't you afraid you'll slip and drown?"
Lorraine was afraid of drowning. But honestly, to her, Eugene was even scarier. She didn't dare say that out loud. She just clenched her palm and muttered, "I like to bathe alone. I don't want anyone else here."
"You can't even see me right now," he said, totally unfazed. "Just pretend I'm not here."
He leaned in, his breath warm and teasing against her neck. The intensity of it made her feel like she wanted to run.
She might not be able to see him, but she could definitely feel him, especially that hard thing pressing against her from behind.
Lorraine felt like she was about to lose her mind. It was as if her heart was pounding, floating, and sinking in the bathwater. She tried to squirm away, but he only held her tighter.
His lips brushed against her back. It was soft, tingly, and impossible to resist. There was nowhere to run. Lorraine felt like even her heartbeat was about to stop.
Before he could turn her around, she squeezed her eyes shut, her mind a complete mess. She had no idea what he was planning, but it was obvious she wasn't in control.
Eugene's breath drew closer, mingling with hers until she couldn't tell where one ended and the other began. If he leaned forward just a little more, their lips would meet.
Lorraine stayed completely still, like a frightened little rabbit with her eyes shut and her ears covered, utterly at his mercy.
Time dragged on slowly. Eugene didn't move, and Lorraine didn't dare open her eyes. Her heart felt like it was floating in the tub, sometimes rising, sometimes sinking. She had no idea how long it had been.
"Didn't your textbooks say you can't have sex in the first three months of pregnancy?" Eugene said, his voice soft in her ear. It was gentle and teasing, just like the warm water around them.
Lorraine's eyes snapped open, her cheeks burning. "You!"
'Bad man! He is definitely doing this on purpose,' she thought.
"What were you expecting? Don't let your imagination run wild," he teased, ruffling her hair. "Remember, you need to think good thoughts for the baby, Lorraine." His eyes sparkled with pure amusement.
Lorraine was so embarrassed that she wanted to sink under the water and never come up again. Anger and embarrassment bubbled up inside her, and she punched him. "You're really being annoying!"
'You were the one who misled me on purpose, weren't you?' she wondered.
"I told you. The only reason I came in to watch you bathe was to make sure you didn't slip. What did you think I was going to do?" Eugene's smile grew more mischievous as he caught her fingers, gently rubbing them between his own.
Her skin was so soft and smooth. Her hands were delicate. He couldn't help but imagine how nice it would feel to have those hands wrapped around his thing. He raised an eyebrow, and under the soft glow, his face looked even more irresistibly attractive.
Lorraine huffed and turned her face away, her cheeks puffing up like a little frog. 'What a bad man! He's the worst,' she thought.
Eugene reached out, his fingertips brushing lightly along her chin before turning her face toward him. Before she could say a word, he leaned in and closed the distance.
His lips pressed against hers. Then his tongue slipped in, coaxing her lips apart and gently drawing out her tongue. He sucked on it tenderly. He was both tender and dominant, greedy yet holding back.
The kiss lasted so long that Lorraine forgot to breathe until Eugene finally let her go. "Breathe, silly," he murmured.
He was still in control, but she was completely dazed. Her cheeks flushed with water droplets clinging to her skin, making her look like the prettiest little pink flower in spring.
Eugene pressed his lips together, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed. He reached out and tapped her soft, pouty lips. "Be good and finish your bath. Tonight, you only get a kiss. Once three months are up, I'll give you what you want."
He seemed determined, but tonight, something had clearly mesmerized him, and his gaze was glued to her chest, unable to look away.
Snapping back to her senses, Lorraine was so embarrassed that she wanted to bury herself. She quickly wrapped her arms around herself. "I don't want anything! Stop staring and get out. Just go!"
"I'm not staring. I'm just looking at our baby's future milk supply," he teased, his voice low and warm.
Hearing that, Lorraine was speechless.
Eugene stood up smoothly. His white shirt was soaked through and clung to his lean waist and long, perfect legs. Even his back was enough to make her blush and her heart race. She quickly turned away.
"Be good and finish your bath. If you feel uncomfortable, just call me. I'll be right outside the door, not going anywhere," he said.
"Okay, thank you," Lorraine mumbled, not knowing what else to say.
Eugene glanced back at her. "I prefer a thank you in action. How about you help me out in another way tonight?"
Desire was already burning in him, and as a grown man, he didn't feel the need to hide it.
Lorraine didn't know how to reply. She silently turned around and reached for the body wash.
Eugene didn't stay any longer. Normally, his self-control was unwavering, but tonight, it felt perilously fragile.
Only when she heard the door close behind her did Lorraine finally let out a sigh of relief. She quickly splashed water on her face, trying to cool down her burning cheeks.
'That was close. I almost lost control,' she thought. 'But tonight, Eugene was so gentle. I'd never seen this side of him before. Could it be because of the baby? Yeah, that must be it.'
She lowered her head and softly placed a hand on her belly. 'Is there really a tiny life growing inside me? Babies are incredible. They can make adults change so much,' she thought.
But the weird thing was, even though she knew his tenderness was all for the baby, she still felt a strange emptiness inside. Maybe it was just the steam in here making her think silly thoughts.
She quickly snapped out of it, grabbed the bath pouf, and started washing up.
Because she was pregnant, Lorraine didn't want to stay in the bath too long. When she stepped out in her bathrobe, Eugene was right there at the door, just like he promised.
"How about a midnight snack?" he asked.
Her guard shot up instantly. She wondered if he was being sweet just to turn around and make things hard for her again.
Lorraine took a step back. "I only know how to make spaghetti, and that's not really the best for pregnant women. I'll just go to bed."
Like a startled rabbit, she bolted straight into his room, not even bothering to argue anymore. She plopped down on the bed and pretended to sleep.
The pillow had a faint, clean scent, just like him. As soon as she lay down and closed her eyes, she actually drifted off pretty quickly.
Eugene leaned against the doorframe, chuckling quietly to himself and thinking, 'This silly girl, does she actually think I'm going to make her cook a midnight snack and use her like free labor?'
He quietly walked over, pulled the blanket over her, then turned to change and head downstairs.
The dark green knit sweater and khaki linen pants made him look even taller and more striking. His features were sharp and refined.
He'd spent the whole day on planes, barely eating anything, and after he got back, he'd rushed to the Moore residence to bring Lorraine home. No wonder he was starving.
Since Eugene was still up, none of the staff dared to rest. As soon as he came downstairs, Clifford, the chef, hurried over. "Sir, is there anything you'd like to eat?"
Eugene thought for a moment, and then, in a rare move, gave Clifford a small smile. "Anything's fine."
Clifford froze, so startled that he nearly collapsed. "Sir, did I mess something up? Please, just tell me. Don't smile at me like that."
Eugene couldn't help but wonder, 'Is my smile really that scary? She didn't seem scared at all just now. Guess she's not afraid of me anymore.'
