Lorraine didn't know what Eugene meant by "getting rid of" Elsie. She stared at him, confused. "I don't get it..."
"You don't need to get it. Just follow my lead. And listen." He curled his finger at her. "Come here."
Without hesitation, Lorraine walked over to him.
Eugene reached out and pulled her into his arms. He rubbed his chin lightly against the top of her head.
"Don't talk about what you saw upstairs today. And don't let Elsie notice anything," he said. "Let them feel safe for now, got it?"
Lorraine nodded.
She didn't understand business stuff, so she figured it was best to just listen to him and not make him mad. After everything that had just happened, she somehow felt even more sure of that.
Maybe it was guilt, maybe just nerves, but whatever Eugene said, she nodded. It didn't make her feel any less bad for having doubted him for so long.
"Then, just do whatever you want. Can you do that?" he asked.
Lorraine had never done whatever she wanted. She shook her head without thinking. "I don't know how..."
"Do whatever you want to her. Don't hold back," Eugene said.
Lorraine paused, then something clicked. "You mean, she cheated on you, and you want me to get revenge for you?"
Eugene was annoyed but too tired to untangle her logic. "Whatever you say."
"Oh, I see." Lorraine already felt guilty toward him. Now that she had a chance to stand up for him, she didn't hesitate. "Okay, I'll do it."
She nodded so hard her head bumped against his chest with a thud. The way she looked so sincere made it almost impossible to say no.
Eugene had planned to explain more, but seeing how cute and clueless she was, he let it go. "Then you better come up with a good plan. Don't go easy on her."
He just wanted her to stay by his side, happy and smiling.
"Can I do anything I want?" Lorraine asked.
She looked like a kitten who had been holding back for too long, finally being told it was okay to claw and scratch. But now she didn't know where to start.
"Anything. You don't need to be nice to Elsie." Eugene pulled her back into his arms. "I've got your back, okay?"
Lorraine felt like she was the luckiest person alive. She never thought someone would actually tell her to go after Elsie however she wanted.
She nodded, dazed and kind of silly.
"Knew you wouldn't let me down." Eugene ruffled her hair. "But one condition—you have to promise me something."
"What is it?" Lorraine asked.
"Whatever happens, you ask me first," he said. "No more jumping to conclusions, okay?"
She nodded again, fast and certain. "Okay, I'll ask you first. I won't overthink things anymore."
"Remember when I told you this thing between us only ends when I say it does?" Eugene asked, pushing a little further.
Lorraine didn't catch on at all. She just buried her face in his chest and kept nodding.
"From now on, just do what I say, alright?" he said again.
She nodded once more.
"That's more like it." Eugene finally smiled, like someone who had just tamed a wild kitten.
In the distance, Shirin stared wide-eyed at Lorraine and Eugene hugging under the tree. "Am I seeing things? Are they really hugging?"
If Eugene and Lorraine were secretly in love, that would be huge news.
"You're not seeing things. It's over," Sheila said with a cold smile. She didn't sound happy—more like she didn't want to see what was happening.
"Over? What do you mean over?" Shirin, on the other hand, looked thrilled. "So Mr. Moore and Lorraine are the real couple, huh? Let's see how Elsie acts now. Her lucky days are done."
Sheila rolled her eyes. "You're so short-sighted. I meant Lorraine's done for."
Lorraine had clearly fallen hard for Eugene. Just a few tricks from him, and she'd never be able to walk away or say no. Sheila couldn't help feeling disappointed in her.
Eugene definitely had his ways. He made Lorraine obey him like a puppy. Sheila started to worry that if they really ended up together, Lorraine would never have a say in anything.
"Sheila." Shirin was still smiling like a happy kid. She tugged on Sheila's sleeve. "So... should we still give Lorraine the food?"
"You think she still needs it?" Sheila glanced at Lorraine, who looked like love had already filled her up.
"She doesn't?" Shirin hesitated for a second, then broke into another big grin. "Can I eat all of it then?"
"All you think about is food. You're gonna gain weight someday," Sheila teased.
"No way. My face might be a little round, but my weight's fine. Let's go." Shirin happily pulled Sheila back to the car, already daydreaming about a bright future.
She thought that if Lorraine and Eugene really became a couple, she and Lorraine could stay at Moore Group forever. Just the thought made her giddy.
Sheila started the car and looked in the rearview mirror at Lorraine and Eugene in the distance.
Their hug looked like vines all tangled up—tight and close. But no one knew if their bond could survive whatever was coming.
Sheila let out a soft sigh, almost too quiet to hear, then turned her eyes back to the road and focused on driving.
It was getting late, so neither Lorraine nor Eugene wanted to go back to Moore Group. Eugene took Lorraine straight to the palatial stone manor.
As soon as they stepped inside, Lorraine caught the familiar scent of flowers. It was light and sweet. This visit felt completely different from the last one. Her eyes lit up as she stared at the little swing, then slowly walked over to it.
Eugene saw right through her little wish and was happy to give in. "Wanna sit here for a while?"
"Can I?" Lorraine reached out and gently touched the swing's rope. It looked a little old, but still sturdy.
"Didn't I say you could do whatever you want?" he said warmly. "I'll go inside and grab something. You stay here a bit."
"Okay." Once he went in, Lorraine carefully sat on the swing.
The soft leather cushion felt really nice. She pushed her toes gently against the grass, and the swing started moving. Higher and higher. She looked like a butterfly jumping into the night sky.
Eugene found a file and called Isaac to take care of some work. Then he stood at the window, hands behind his back.
Under the night sky, Lorraine's long hair flew behind her like wild ribbons. A small smile crept across her face, then turned into a full grin.
She finally tilted her head back, pointed her toes, and practically flew into the air. A laugh burst out of her.
Eugene heard her laugh, and it felt like the stars above were falling—one by one—into his chest, sending ripples across a quiet lake inside him.
He pushed the door open and stepped out into the hot midsummer night, standing in front of her. "Lorraine, let go."
"What?" she asked, confused.
Before she could even think, her hands let go. She flew straight into his arms like a little bird.
Eugene caught her, solid and steady. They fell onto the grass and rolled a few times before stopping.
Lorraine's hair was messy and wild. Her chest rose and fell fast as she caught her breath, eyes locked on his. Her lips were slightly parted, and her warm breath smelled sweet in the night air.
Eugene looked down at her. Her bright eyes shimmered like they held all the stars in the sky. They were shining—and full of trust.
He felt a warmth in his chest, like a tide was surging, filling his chest full and tight. "Are you silly? I told you to let go and you just did it? What if I didn't catch you?"
He thought she'd hesitate a bit before agreeing, given her personality. But she just let go, without giving him any time to prepare. If he hadn't reacted fast enough, she would have smashed into the wall.
Lorraine was smiling, looking like she didn't have a care in the world. Two deep dimples showed at the corners of her mouth. "You said I should always listen to you, so I let go. Is there a problem?" she asked.
He was stunned. He didn't expect her to be this obedient. A strange mix of emotions flooded his heart—bitterness, satisfaction, and a whole lot of tenderness.
Eugene bent down and gently kissed the corner of her mouth. "You're so obedient. Aren't you afraid I'll sell you out?"
He was the one who wanted her to listen, and now he was the one complaining that she was too obedient. Lorraine didn't know what Eugene was up to, but she shook her head calmly. "You won't."
Her words were simple but carried a lot of weight. Eugene smiled. "You have that much faith in me?"
His voice was low and husky, super charming and sexy. The warmth of his breath seeped into her ear.
Lorraine shivered a little. "No. I just think I'm probably unsellable. No one would want me."
Eugene was speechless for a moment, feeling helpless. He looked at her stubborn, yet naive face and kissed her again.
"See how I deal with this annoying mouth of yours," he said. His voice was captivating and a little dangerous. As he spoke, he pinned her body down so she couldn't move around.
Lorraine's heart was racing as she looked into his eyes. She tried to stay calm and not let him see her embarrassment, but she only lasted a few seconds.
In the end, she reached up and covered his eyes, not daring to look into his deep eyes, afraid she'd be even more smitten with him.
She was even more scared to think about what he was going to do to her next.

"You don't need to get it. Just follow my lead. And listen." He curled his finger at her. "Come here."
