Dylan strode in from the doorway. Clad in a pristine white suit, he stood tall with an impeccably sculpted physique. But even more striking than his physique were his exquisitely handsome features.
His eyes slanted upward with an alluring curve, so captivating they put even the most beautiful women to shame. Seeing Luke's icy, menacing expression, Dylan arched an eyebrow, his almond-shaped eyes curving into a sly, knowing smile.
This was the first time he'd ever seen uncharacteristic emotions flicker across Luke's usually stone-cold face. Dylan shot Luke a teasing look. "Chill, I'm here now."
Dylan chuckled, his eyes locking onto Luke with playful intensity.
"Hayden told me the person you want me to save is your wife? Seriously? No way. Did that bastard just make it up to trick me into coming here? Since when are you married? I've never heard a word about it."
Dylan had already noticed the faint silhouette of a woman lying on the large bed. But he couldn't care less about the woman, his almond-shaped eyes fixed intently on Luke instead.
Dylan had his doubts about what Hayden said. He once thought Luke would never, not in a million years, be into another woman, let alone getting married. He'd never heard of it, nor did Luke ever mention it.
"You didn't hear about it because we never even had a wedding ceremony. Dylan, enough talk—just save her now."
Dylan blurted out, "When did you—" He was about to press further when he looked up and saw a dangerous glint flash through Luke's eyes. Realizing Luke had reached his limit, Dylan wisely backed off, rubbing his nose sheepishly. "Alright, let me check on her."
With that, he sauntered over to the bedside, eager to see just who his mysterious "sister-in-law" he'd never met before really was.
At that moment, a flicker of surprise crossed Daniel's mind as he saw Dylan. Dylan, the heir of the Powell family—another elite household in Jovinia.
The Powell family had been a prestigious medical lineage since ancient times, and in modern times, they'd become pioneers in biotechnology and medical research.
Dylan himself was an MD-PhD and commanded his family's vast resources in the biomedical field. Thus, the medical team Luke personally assembled was unparalleled throughout Jovinia—no other in the city could even compare.
Daniel never expected that Luke would even call in Dylan for Jane's sake. He thought to himself, 'Perhaps the relationship between Mr. Drake and Ms. Ritter isn't as strained as assumed."
Dylan approached the bedside. He was simply driven by a bit of gossipy curiosity, wanting to see for himself just what kind of woman Luke had ended up marrying.
But when Dylan's gaze landed on the bed—on that delicate face streaked with blood—he froze. His face flashed with undisguised astonishment. "This... how could this be..."
"Mr. Powell, is... is there any complication with Mrs. Drake's injuries?" Noticing the sudden shift in Dylan's expression, Hayden asked cautiously.
"No, that's not it... It's just..." Dylan's voice held the faintest tremor. He pressed his fingers to his temples, masking the fleeting shock that had flashed across his face.
Dylan's gaze snapped up to meet Luke's, his lips parting as if to voice the burning question on his mind. Dylan caught himself before speaking when he noticed Daniel. He quickly changed his tune. "So this is... the woman that Dwight forced you to marry?"
Dwight used the Spence family inheritance as leverage to force Luke into marriage. All of Luke's inner circle knew about this. None of Luke's inner circle believed he'd ever cave in just for Dwight's inheritance.
So later, when word got around that a girl from the Judd family had become Luke's girlfriend, none of them were particularly surprised.
But now, seeing Jane lying unconscious on the bed, Dylan was stunned.
He was dying to know what was really going on because he found Jane's face rather familiar.
