"Mr. Drake." Mandy was stunned when she heard the noise and turned around, thinking, 'Why is Mr. Drake up in the middle of the night and here of all places?'
She stammered, "Mr. Drake, Mrs. Drake suddenly developed a fever. I was just following Mr. Powell's instructions to sponge her down. I-I didn't expect you to come by, so I..."
Mandy's eyes darted away, unable to meet Luke's gaze. Her heart pounded with guilt for having just mistreated Jane, causing her words to come out as a jumbled mess.
After all, even if Luke didn't favor Jane, she was still his wife. Luke had a zero-tolerance policy for disobedience. Mandy thought, 'If Mr. Drake realizes I used a rough towel to scrub her harshly, I'm done for.'
"No more talking. Continue," Luke cut her off coldly as he sat down on a single sofa nearby.
His gaze never lingered on Mandy. From the moment he walked in, his icy eyes were fixed solely on Jane's face, slightly flushed from the fever. His expression was inscrutable, like a deep, cold pool hiding its secrets.
"Of course, Mr. Drake." Mandy sighed in relief and made sure not to take any chances. Seizing the opportunity to change the water, she quietly substituted a softer towel.
Following the doctor's orders, Mandy untied Jane's robe and unbuttoned the remaining buttons. Her delicate figure, typical of a young woman's grace, was now exposed to the cool air.
Perhaps due to the fever, Jane's heated skin reacted to the sudden chill, causing her soft body to shiver slightly in her sleep. Her skin had a creamy sheen to it, heightened by the slight flush.
Luke's eyes darkened as he watched.
Mandy, wary of Luke's presence, dared not slack off. She placed the cold towel on Jane's flat, pale abdomen and carefully sponged upwards, inch by inch, not missing a spot.
The girl's skin glistened as the damp towel passed over it. Under the bright light, it was almost like smooth, perfect jade.
Mandy cautiously glanced at Luke, who hadn't said a word. She thought, 'I've been at this for a while now. Surely Mr. Drake will leave soon? He can't possibly intend to stay here until I finish wiping down Jane's entire body.'
But even after Mandy finished cleaning Jane's upper body and pulled the blanket over her, Luke didn't budge. Unsure of his intentions, Mandy didn't dare ask or stop her task.
Bracing herself, she removed Jane's pajama pants to continue. But just as Jane's slender, white legs were exposed to the air, Luke's deep, rough voice suddenly broke the silence. "Enough. Out."
Mandy hesitated, "But Mr. Drake... Mr. Powell instructed that Mrs. Drake's lower body still needs—"
"Out." Luke's tone left no room for argument.
Not wanting to risk his anger, Mandy picked up the basin and towel and started to leave.
Luke then added, "Leave those. Wait outside."
Mandy's hand shook in shock. She thought, 'Mr. Drake wants me to leave the towel and basin? Is he planning to clean her himself? No, that's impossible. Mr. Drake wouldn't demean himself for someone like her.'
Lost in her disbelief, she saw Luke already stepping forward to pick up the towel with his long fingers and dip it into the cold water.
Mandy's eyes widened in astonishment.
Luke lifted his eyes to glare at her. "Get out, now."
