Dylan arrived just in time and jumped straight into emergency care. Jane's condition was tricky—she had multiple drug allergies, so even with her high fever, most medications couldn't be used recklessly.
Thankfully, Dylan's skills were top-notch. What regular doctors couldn't handle, he managed with precision. "Well, good thing I made it in time. Her fever finally broke.
"But Luke, what the hell happened? When I left, she was stable. With basic care, she would've been fine. Yet here we are; she's barely hanging on. Don't you even feel a little guilty?"
Dylan frowned, clearly disapproving. The wounds on Jane's forehead and neck were deep, causing infection and a high fever. But the treatment plan he'd designed for her was thorough and shouldn't have led to this.
As long as she'd taken the meds on time and used proper cooling methods, it never would've gotten this bad. Looking at the frail woman in bed, her once-radiant face now gaunt. Dylan didn't believe for a second that Luke didn't care.
"This doesn't concern you," Luke said coldly, his face unreadable. He didn't bother replying further to Dylan, but as Jane's breathing steadied, the ice in his eyes finally began to melt.
Dylan shrugged shamelessly. With no one else around, it was the perfect time to poke around and gossip a little.
"Luke, come on, spill it," Dylan said, half-joking. "You snuck off and married her without telling any of us. So what is she to you? Did you finally catch feelings? Or is she just a stand-in you're keeping around?"
Dylan was dying of curiosity. The first time he saw Jane, she'd stuck in his mind like an itch he couldn't scratch. Too many people were around back then, so he couldn't ask. Now that he finally had the chance, he wasn't letting it go.
"Sneaking around?" Luke's dark eyes narrowed, a hint of mocking disapproval in his gaze. "Like I owe you all an explanation about who I bring home."
The meaning was clear—Luke didn't bother hiding things from frat buddies like Dylan. Dylan scratched his nose, sensing Luke was seriously involved with Jane.
He smiled and said, "Alright, so you weren't hiding it on purpose? Since that's the case, when are you throwing a party so we can all celebrate with you?"
"No wedding party," Luke's cold, indifferent voice cut through Dylan's daydreams. "Our marriage will last just one year. After that, I'll divorce and marry someone else. So, there's no need for any celebrations or public announcements."
Jane stared at Luke in disbelief. "What? You're really going to let her—"
Before Dylan could say a word, a gut-wrenching wail echoed from outside the door. "I know I was wrong. I really do. Please, let me see Mr. Drake. I can explain, I swear!"
Hayden slipped inside, shutting the door behind him to muffle Mandy's shrieking. "Mr. Drake, here's the footage from upstairs. Dylan was right. She was caught sneaking into your room several times. A couple of times, she even left with foreign cash. But..."
Hayden paused, his tone growing heavier as he handed over the tablet. "There's another clip here, and I think it's something you need to see for yourself."
