Maybe Jane was just imagining it, but she felt a hint of gentleness in the way Luke's fingertips brushed her cheeks.
Even his gaze, usually so cold and distant, seemed a little more patient as he looked down at her.
'No way. Like Luke would ever care about me. I'm just being delusional," she wondered.
"I-I'm fine," Jane stammered, her voice hesitant and awkward as she tried to shy away from Luke's touch.
But the slight movement tugged at the wound on her neck, making her delicate brows furrow in pain as she gasped sharply.
Luke said, "Don't move around. You're injured."
"Me? Hurt? What injury?" she murmured. Jane's mind went blank. She couldn't remember ever being hurt.
"Take it easy," Luke said softly. Instead of answering her question, his hand gently settled on her sexy waist. He felt her delicate frame quiver slightly in his arms. His eyes grew even deeper.
Luke reached for a pillow and propped it behind her lower back, helping her sit more comfortably before easing his grip around her waist.
Jane murmured, "Thanks. But I can manage on my own. Could you let go?"
A sudden sharp pain shot through her temple, and that was when Jane realized she really was hurt.
But there was a gap in her memory. The last thing she could recall was that argument with Luke. Jane had no idea how she ended up covered in wounds and lying here.
"Okay," Luke responded coldly. Yet his hand remained possessively wrapped around her waist, making no move to let her go.
Before Jane could even move away, Luke's cold, chiseled face suddenly filled her vision. He bent down and leaned in close, overwhelming her personal space.
Jane's eyes widened in shock.
Luke leaned in, his deep, penetrating gaze steady and cold, their faces just inches apart as his eyes locked onto hers.
"What's wrong? Still not awake, or did you really hit your head hard enough to forget everything?" Luke said coolly.
One of his hands was possessively on Jane's waist, and the other braced against the bed. Luke's chiseled features, deep-set brows, a straight nose, and thin lips hovered dangerously close.
But it was his eyes that truly captivated her, those, always cold and unfathomable, like the finest sapphire, deep, mysterious, and utterly mesmerizing.
Jane's heart suddenly clenched, pounding wildly. She had never seen this side of Luke before. "M-My head still hurts a bit. I can't quite remember," she said.
"It was at the Crystal Palace," Luke said, watching Jane's fragile, confused expression with concern. "That's where you got hurt."
"Crystal Palace?" Jane raised her hand to her forehead. As her fingertips brushed the medical gauze, a sharp pain shot through her temple.
