Meanwhile, at the Judd residence, Ella's shrill, hysterical scream was so loud it nearly blasted the roof off. "K-Keep me out of his way? Mom, did you hear what Mr. Drake just said?
"He actually accused me of annoying him and told me not to show up for a whole year.
"What does that even mean? He won't see me for an entire year? Or is it that he's already fallen for Jane, and she has seduced him away from me?"
The moment Ella received Harvey's message, she flew into a rage and smashed every single vase in the living room.
After everything she did to finally get close to Luke and stand by his side, she barely even had the chance to show off as Luke's future wife. And now, Luke actually ordered her to keep out of his way for an entire year.
'Does he seriously want to go a whole year without even seeing me?' wondered Ella.
Lily sneered, "I told you, letting Jane stay by Mr. Drake's side would only lead to trouble. Men can never resist temptation. Jane is just as shameless as her mother—a total hussy who lives to seduce men."
Lily grew increasingly alarmed as she realized Luke refused to even see Ella. Lily's hatred for Jane burned fiercer than ever.
Ella cried hysterically, "What should I do now, Mom? I told you we shouldn't have done this. It was all your terrible idea. Now, Mr. Drake saw what I did. He must think I'm evil-minded.
"He won't even see me or answer my calls. Ma-Maybe I should just go beg Jane for forgiveness?
"I'll tell her I know I was wrong, that I only did it because I was jealous seeing her with Mr. Drake. Maybe, if he sees how much I love him—"
"You're my daughter. Why the hell should you apologize to that bitch?" Lily seized Ella's wrist and gave her a sharp shake, snapping her back to reality.
She continued, "Ella, snap out of it. Don't forget, to Mr. Drake, you're the one who saved his life that night. No matter what you've done, you're still his savior, the woman he personally promised to marry.
"Look, even now that he knows you hurt Jane, he still hasn't called off your engagement. Remember what Harvey just told us? Mr. Drake still promised to marry you in a year."
Ella wailed hysterically, "S-So what am I supposed to do now? Do you really expect me to obediently stay away from Mr. Drake for a whole year, not show up in front of him, not disturb him or Jane at all?
"Mom, if I do that, I'm afraid that after a year, Jane will—"
Lily's lips curled into a sinister grin. "Silly girl, what nonsense are you talking about? Mr. Drake is your fiancé. How can you just let that scheming bitch stay by his side? A whole year is a long time; anything could happen.
"We can't just sit around waiting for disaster. If things aren't working out with Luke directly, that's fine. We'll find another way. Come here. I will tell you what we're going to do."
After a few days of rest, Jane's injuries had improved dramatically.
She had no idea what the ointment Dylan gave her worked like magic was made of, but the results were nothing short of miraculous.
She'd been convinced the scars on her neck and forehead would never fade, but now her skin was completely restored, as if nothing had ever happened.
Jane couldn't help feeling grateful to Dylan. 'If Mom had seen these visible injuries, I wouldn't have known how to explain them,' Jane thought.
That morning after breakfast, Jane couldn't help but ask the question that had been weighing on her mind. "By the way, I haven't seen Mandy around these past few days. Where has she gone?"
Lately, Harvey had been handling all of Luke's daily needs.
Jane's old bedroom on the first floor had even been sealed off by Luke's orders, forcing her to share the master bedroom with him every night.
"Mandy won't be coming back. Ever," Luke said coldly, without even looking up.
