When Jane heard Luke's words, her face instantly turned bright red.
She opened her mouth to argue, but then she watched as Luke, who had just criticized the dishes, picked up his fork and took a bite.
"Well? Is it okay?" Jane couldn't help but ask. She was always confident in her cooking skills.
Luke's dark lashes fluttered, concealing his emotions, but his expression still betrayed a slight change.
"It's not great," Luke said coolly, yet he picked up another piece of food and slowly brought it to his mouth.
Jane was left speechless. 'If it's not great, why is he still eating?' he thought.
She didn't know that for someone as picky as Luke, eating more than two bites of a dish was a rare occurrence.
Just as Jane was about to pick up her own fork, she saw Luke take out his phone and dial Hayden.
"Go to Opulent Hall and get a serving of cassoulet," he instructed on the phone.
Jane was stunned. 'Is my cooking really that bad? He's ordering takeout from Opulent Hall?' she thought.
"You ordered cassoulet?" she blurted, unable to contain her frustration. "What about all the food I made? There's so much here, and you're not even going to eat it? This is wasteful!"
After struggling through a year of financial hardship, Jane couldn't stand to see food go to waste.
Luke hung up the phone, gave her a cold look, and said, "I'm not eating the cassoulet. It's for you."
He noticed how thin she was and thought she needed to eat more, mostly so he could hold her more comfortably.
Jane hesitated for a moment. "But if I eat the cassoulet, what will you eat?"
"I'll eat what's on the table for now. You can satisfy me later," Luke replied, his intense gaze lingering on her delicate face.
Jane simply couldn't handle his teasing words.
When Hayden came back from Opulent Hall with the cassoulet, he couldn't believe his eyes.
Luke had always been incredibly picky about food. The only meals he would eat were from the chef at Drake Manor or Opulent Hall's top chef, and even those were often left untouched.
But now, Hayden saw Luke sitting at the table, slowly eating his meal.
Hayden took another look, confirming what he had already seen. The three dishes and the soup on the table were simple, home-cooked meals—nothing more than basic vegetarian dishes. They were nothing like the rich, indulgent cassoulet he was holding.
"Mr. Drake, the cassoulet is here," Hayden said, taking the cassoulet out of the bag and placing it carefully next to Luke.
Luke raised an eyebrow and glanced at him, his sharp gaze freezing Hayden in place. "When have you ever seen me eat something like this?"
'Wait, if Mr. Drake didn't want it, then...' Hayden thought. His eyes widened in disbelief as he glanced at Jane, who was sitting across from him.
Jane was staring at Luke intently, watching him eat the food she had spent so much time preparing. He took one bite after another, adding more to his plate.
'This man really is weird. He won't let me eat the food I made, saying it's not nutritious, but he hasn't put his fork down once,' she thought.
"Ms. Ritter, this is the cassoulet. Here you are," Hayden said quickly, realizing what Luke wanted to do.
Unable to eat her own dinner, Jane reluctantly began eating the cassoulet, specially ordered from Opulent Hall.
It had been a long time since she'd had such a rich, delicious dish. She savored it, enjoying every bite.
When Luke finally put his fork down and looked up, he saw Jane eating with satisfaction, her expression full of delight like a contented little kitten.
As her pink tongue swiped over her flushed lips, his gaze darkened.
That night, Luke followed through with what he had said at the dinner table. After they went to the room, he gently lifted the well-fed Jane into his arms.
