"Dwight, you told me three years ago you'd quit drinking. What's going on? Have you really not stopped this whole time?" Luke asked.
Jane went with Luke to visit Dwight, only to reveal that his claim of quitting drinking for almost three years was a lie.
In the end, Luke had Hayden come in and search the whole room right in front of Dwight.
Under Dwight's hospital bed, Hayden found three bottles of wine, which Luke quickly took away.
That was when everything finally got wrapped up.
After leaving the hospital room, Jane followed Luke outside.
Luke glanced back at her. She was wearing a purple cashmere dress, looking effortlessly elegant, and his gaze darkened a bit.
If he didn't have other things to do, he probably would've taken her straight to his office on the top floor.
"You handled Dwight well just now. Keep it up," Luke said.
Before leaving, Luke gently pinched her chin and quickly nipped her lip.
It was hard for Jane to tell whether he was praising her or giving her a warning.
Jane pressed her lips together, feeling the sting from his bite, and she avoided his intense gaze.
Then, like she suddenly remembered something, she called out to him. "Mr. Drake, wait a sec."
"What? You want a reward or something?" Luke leaned his long, muscular arm against the car door and turned to look at her.
Jane hesitated for a second, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
She said, "Dwight's been sneaking drinks for the past three years, even behind the doctors' backs. Daniel couldn't stop him. So now that you've taken his wine, I'm sure Dwight will find a way to get more in the future.
"If you have time, you should keep an eye on him. He's getting older, and you're the only one who can really control him. If you'd paid more attention, you wouldn't have been kept in the dark for three years."
She thought the issue was that Luke had been too indifferent toward Dwight before.
Jane had worked at the nursing home for a year and barely ever saw Luke show up.
She knew Dwight had a grandson, but she only ever heard about him when Dwight rambled on about him.
Looking back, she found that Dwight had stayed at the nursing home for so long, and besides Daniel, it seemed no other family members visited.
"Are you trying to tell me how to handle my family?" Luke, who had been leaning against the car door, pulled his hand away without her noticing.
His cold, piercing stare made his sharp features look even more intimidating.
Jane froze for a second, her breath catching. "No, I just think Dwight—"
"Don't think just because you've slept with me, you can interfere with my family. Jane, remember your place. Don't let it happen again." Luke shot her one last cold look, then got in the car and drove off.
Jane stood there, watching the car disappear. She stared for a few seconds before snapping out of it.
She wanted to slap herself to clear her head. She realized how naive she'd been. She almost forgot that she was just an item Luke had bought.
'I'm just an item. What right do I have to tell the buyer what to do?' she thought.
In the car, Hayden could feel the tense, cold atmosphere.
He glanced at the file in his hand and handed it to Luke. "Mr. Drake, here's the full report on Ms. Ritter's last medical checkup, just like you asked."
The report he handed over was way more detailed than the one Luke had seen on his phone. It included all the information on HIV and other tests, covering everything in much more depth.
Hayden was honestly a little confused. He understood why Luke wanted to check up on Jane's history and get her tested for certain things.
But what he didn't get was why Luke had also ordered a full physical evaluation for her at the hospital. After all, Luke wasn't exactly the type to show a soft side.
