Luke shot Jane a dark, unreadable look and said coldly, "Come here."
Jane had no idea how she had pissed Luke off this time. His eyes were so cold and sharp, it felt like he might kill her any second.
But she knew she owed him. She hadn't forgotten where she stood. So without a word, she quietly left Daniel's side and walked over to Luke.
She sat down on the edge of the couch, just one arm's length from him.
"Mr. Drake, I..." Her soft voice had just started when Luke suddenly grabbed her waist with one large hand.
Without much effort, he pulled her roughly into his arms. The space she had tried to keep between them vanished in an instant.
In the blink of an eye, she was fully caught in his tight embrace. She shifted uneasily, feeling the strong grip on her waist. Her delicate face was pressed helplessly against his broad chest.
His deep voice came from above her head. "Where did you go?"
Jane froze for a second and instinctively looked at Daniel, who was standing nearby.
"Why are you looking at him? I'm asking you." Luke pinched her chin with his long fingers. His voice was flat, impossible to read.
Jane's eyes turned red, her lashes trembling slightly.
She had no choice but to explain. "Daniel took me to the hospital just now. He helped me transfer my mom to a new place. She's in the same hospital as Dwight now."
Jane knew there was no way to hide something like this from Luke.
She also knew saying this might make Luke think she was being manipulative—using Daniel on purpose. But her mom's condition was serious. She couldn't stay at the old hospital any longer, no matter what.
Surprisingly, after hearing her explanation, Luke didn't show much of a reaction.
He just nodded slowly and gave Daniel a cold glance. "Thanks for helping with her mom."
"It's nothing, Mr. Drake. Mr. Spence said Mrs. Drake's mother is family too," Daniel said calmly, his eyes steady behind his glasses.
"Now that Mrs. Drake is home, I'll head back to the hospital," he added. "Mr. Spence just got his collection taken away. He might throw a tantrum tonight. I'll stay there with him."
"Alright." Luke gave a cold nod, saying nothing more.
Daniel gave them both a nod and left.
As the door closed behind him, Jane hadn't even reacted when the room spun. In the next second, Luke had pushed her down onto the couch.
His tall, heavy body pinned her underneath him. She was stuck in the cushions, her chin caught in his cool fingers.
He said coldly, "Jane, I remember telling you not to play games. You had Daniel transfer your mom? What's next—gonna let my grandpa know she needs surgery soon, and maybe get him to pay for some expert from abroad?"
His large hand pressed against her slender neck, like he could snap it in half with just a little more force.
