Luke's voice was extremely low and cold. His gaze held a faint, barely noticeable displeasure as he looked at Jane.
Jane didn't know what to say. His lack of appetite wasn't really about her. But she couldn't help but remember the night Luke had a stomach ache.
She silently told herself that if Luke didn't eat dinner and later had stomach problems in the bedroom, it would be her dealing with it. After all, they were sharing the same bed now.
"Mr. Drake, even if you have no appetite, you should eat a little. Going too long without food can... cause stomach issues," she said carefully, gently persuading him.
Jane didn't want Luke to think she was meddling. Otherwise, he might mock her for being overly sentimental again.
But as soon as she finished speaking, Luke's eyes grew even colder. A shadow of darkness flickered in them.
Luke didn't know how Jane found out about his chronic stomach pain. He narrowed his eyes dangerously.
Before, Don had taken an interest in Jane, and Dwight had only accepted her. Everything seemed so coincidental. But Luke didn't believe in so many coincidences.
For a moment, he stared coldly at Jane's slender neck. His gaze was full of icy intent—a dangerous urge to snap that delicate, perfect neck floated in his deep eyes.
He was considering whether he should keep her around.
Just then, Jane bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, then gently said, "If you don't want to eat this, how about I make you some spaghetti?
"Spaghetti should be easier to digest than what's on the table, but I'm not sure what suitable sides we have at home."
She tilted her head slightly, murmuring to herself, then turned back with a small smile and looked at Luke with focused, sincere eyes full of inquiry. "Do you want to try my spaghetti?"
Luke stayed silent for a few seconds. His expression was still cold and serious, but the urge to snap her fragile neck had faded. Instead, his mind drifted back to the taste of the food she had made that night.
Jane's cooking wasn't on par with five-star chefs—not even as polished as what Mandy made. But Luke had to admit that her food suited his taste in a strange, almost addictive way. Just like the girl herself.
"Fine." After a brief pause, he gave a slight nod, letting out a soft snort as if reluctantly agreeing to her offer.
Just as Jane was about to get up, he suddenly added coldly, "No strong sauces. And no spice."
Jane blinked, and then smiled. "Okay."
She was about to stand when Luke, still wearing a dark expression, added in an icy tone, "And I don't eat onions."
Only then did Jane realize Luke actually had things he wouldn't eat—he was kind of picky.
She'd always thought he was some emotionless, cold-blooded figure, distant to the point of being inhuman. But at that moment, maybe it was just his food preferences—or maybe something else—she felt like he suddenly seemed a bit more human.
"Got it," she said with a light smile. "Mr. Drake, just wait a bit. I'll have it ready soon."
