Having eaten her fill, Jane naturally had to return the favor to her generous benefactor who'd treated her to dinner. She got up and headed to the kitchen, ready to whip up something for Luke.
Instead of lending Jane a hand, Mandy deliberately slipped out of the kitchen. She couldn't wait to see the show when things went south.
Luke had always been picky about Mandy's cooking, but now he specifically asked for Jane's homemade noodles. This was more than Mandy could stomach.
She seethed in silence, her heart brimming with resentment toward Jane. She thought, 'I have been helping in this apartment for quite some time.
'In the past, Mr. Drake allowed me to cook, but now that I'd finally been put in charge of all three meals, he looks down on my culinary skills. That Jane girl couldn't possibly out-cook me.'
What Mandy didn't know was that, by the time she sneaked out that day, Luke had already tasted Jane's cooking.
Mandy deliberately didn't warn Jane how finicky Luke was with food. She thought, 'Just wait till Jane serves something that doesn't suit his taste. I can't wait to see Luke fly into a rage.'
Moments later, Jane emerged from the kitchen, carrying a fragrant plate of spaghetti. "All done. Be careful, it's still hot. Take your time and tell me what you think," she said, setting the plate down before Luke.
Her eyes sparkled with eager anticipation as she gazed at him.
The spaghetti was topped with a vibrant red tomato sauce and a sprinkle of fresh parsley, making it look so delicious.
Luke's eyes narrowed slightly as he coldly watched Jane bustling about, bringing the spaghetti to the table. As he caught a whiff, the rich aroma of the food hit him unexpectedly. Some long-forgotten memory stirred within him.
Mandy lingered nearby, waiting to see Jane embarrass herself. She sneered inside, 'Just a simple plate of spaghetti. Does she think she's some kind of master chef?
'As if something this cheap could ever impress Master Luke! I bet he wouldn't even touch what even a beggar would refuse."
However, things didn't go the way Mandy had expected.
Despite his gloomy, disapproving gaze, Luke found himself reaching for his fork the moment Jane set the plate down. He frowned slightly, picked up a strand of spaghetti with caution, and gave it a tentative taste.
After that first bite, the cold severity in his expression softened almost imperceptibly. He didn't put the fork down and continued to enjoy the spaghetti.
His movements remained elegant, but the plate of spaghetti was disappearing at a visible speed. After a moment, he finally set down his fork and, unhurriedly, dabbed his lips with a napkin.
"Passable," Luke remarked coolly, his deep, magnetic voice carrying a chill.
Jane was speechless. She thought, 'He ate every last bite, and all he says is passable?'
Noticing the hint of disappointment in Jane's eyes, Luke frowned slightly. He added, almost reluctantly, "You can make this occasionally for breakfast."
Jane exclaimed, "Really? So you think it is delicious, right?" Her eyes instantly lit up with delight.
Luke's expression darkened in mild annoyance as he corrected her. "Not delicious, just decent," he said coolly.
Jane couldn't help but smile at his words. "I get it. Just 'decent' means it barely passed your high standards," she teased.
She thought, 'My cooking must be pretty good after all. Otherwise, I wouldn't have caught that fleeting warmth in Luke's eyes, like seeing frost thaw for just an instant.'
