Hearing Luke's words, Jane spun around, her face all shocked. She wondered, 'How could he ask that? And he wanted me to go upstairs, too?'
Ford said the second floor was Luke's private space. Jane wasn't allowed up there. He reminded her loads of times before leaving.
Luke didn't give Jane time to think. When she looked up, he was gone. The big living room was empty, just her left.
Jane glanced at the curvy stairs to the second floor. She gritted her teeth and went up. She knocked and called out, "Mr. Luke, I'm coming in." Then she stepped into the master bedroom.
It was a big bedroom with a unique design. Everything was black, making it feel gloomy. All the soft furniture was black, too. It was kind of dull. The room was huge and split into sections.
Jane saw Luke near the bed, calmly taking off his belt. She quickly looked down, avoiding his eyes. She held her breath and quietly walked to the bathroom.
Jane planned to quickly set up Luke's bath. Once it was filled, she'd leave. She crouched beside the tub, lost in thought while the water ran. She thought, 'How do things get like this? I married Luke for money, and now I am preparing his bath.'
Jane really didn't dare disobey Luke. She was scared of him, really scared. Especially when his cold eyes fixed on her, her heart tightened up for no reason.
"What are you doing?" Suddenly, a low, cold voice, mixed with annoyance, came from behind. Luke was beside her without her noticing.
"Oh, I..." Jane snapped back to reality and saw the bath was about to overflow. "Sorry. I wasn't paying attention." She stood up and reached to turn off the tap.
From fear or crouching too long, her legs gave way as she leaned forward. Her body fell uncontrollably toward the tub. "Ah..." Seeing she would fall in, Jane cried out softly in fright.
Just in time, a big hand slipped under her waist and caught her. Then, a firm grip tightened around her middle, pulling her back hard. She was pulled straight into a warm, big embrace.
Jane was like a scared kitten. Her eyes were shut tight, lashes trembling slightly, with moisture on them. She looked helpless and pitiful, curled up in Luke's big embrace.
Luke looked down and saw Jane in this tempting and unaware pose. He sneered, thinking, 'She never misses a chance to attract men.' A flame flickered in his cold eyes.
"Let go," he snapped, eyes turning dark and cold. He pushed her away hard.
Suddenly pushed aside, Jane snapped out of her shock. She stumbled to steady herself. When her blurry eyes focused on the scene, her wide, moist eyes grew even wider.
Luke was naked, a white towel loosely wrapped around his waist. Water droplets glistened on him, rolling down his muscular chest and toned abs, and then vanished beneath the towel.
Seeing this, Jane bit her lip. It was Luke she had hugged out of panic. Her face had pressed against his firm, warm chest.
"I-I'm sorry. It wasn't on purpose... I didn't know it was you," Jane stammered, looking down as she rushed to apologize.
She hadn't realized she was holding Luke. If she had, she'd have kept her distance; she'd rather fall into the tub than hug him.
"Don't know..." A mocking smile tugged at Luke's lips as a cold laugh escaped deep from his throat. He glanced down at her. "Jane, you think I'm an idiot, huh?"
It was just the two of them in the apartment. Jane actually claimed she didn't know it was him.
Jane fell silent for a few seconds, catching the mockery in Luke's words. She didn't know how to explain. Or rather, she knew what to say but was too flustered to get it out right.
But she also knew he probably wouldn't believe her. So she didn't bother explaining.
Luke watched as Jane lowered her head gradually, her soft eyes quivering slightly, her hands pressed tightly together.
She stopped trying to explain anything. Her expression shifted from lively and soft back to timid and cautious, as if even one more word might make him angry.
Luke raised an eyebrow, his face darkening. "Get out. Don't come upstairs again," he said in a low, tense voice that seemed to hold back anger.
When Jane heard that, she felt like she'd dodged a bullet. She ran down to the second floor and back to her room. Only after locking the door and sitting on the bed did she gasp for air, barely able to hold back.
Jane's heart was pounding like crazy. It felt like it might burst out. She froze, remembering the scene. She saw a bite mark on Luke's right shoulder, which was almost faded.
She remembered that a week ago at the Night Charm Club, she had bitten that guy's right shoulder hard in pain.
