"Oh, it's you. You frightened me," exclaimed Mandy. A flicker of panic flashed across her face.
After Mandy confirmed Jane was alone, she immediately composed herself.
Mandy said, "Daniel will stay at the hospital, and Mr. Drake is away on business. There will be nothing for me to do around here these days, so I thought I'd just go home for a bit.
"Mrs. Drake, you're a good cook anyway, right? I'm sure you can handle your meals."
Mandy didn't even wait for Jane to respond. She took her bag, briskly shouldered past Jane, and pressed the elevator button.
Jane remained silent because she had long known Mandy was two-faced.
Besides, Jane was not really Luke's wife, so she had no right to lose her temper at the Drake family's servants.
But before entering the door, Jane gave Mandy another look. She wondered, 'Isn't that bag Mandy is carrying unusually large?'
But Mandy had already gone in the elevator before Jane could question her.
Jane shrugged this off. After entering the door, she casually made herself some noodles.
As she was cooking, she noticed a small, used herbal medicine pot on the kitchen counter.
Ever since the attack, Jane had been having the herbal tonic soup Mandy brewed for her nearly every day.
It was said that Daniel had specifically instructed Mandy to make this for her.
Jane hadn't had it today, but when she touched the small herbal medicine pot, she was surprised to find it was still warm.
Jane lifted the lid of the pot and found an assortment of precious tonic herbs that had already been boiled, along with a small amount of residual broth at the bottom.
Clearly, the tonic soup had just been brewed not long ago.
However, the soup inside had already been taken.
Jane's brows knitted slightly. She thought, 'I didn't take the tonic, but the residue in the medicine pot clearly shows it has just been brewed today.
'Since I didn't drink the soup, the only possibility is that Mandy secretly drank it.'
Jane had always known that Mandy looked down on her.
Jane didn't really care whether Mandy treated her with respect as the mistress of the house, but when she discovered Mandy had stolen and drunk the tonic soup meant for her, she finally took offense at Mandy's behavior.
Jane thought, 'What Mandy did was really out of line. She could have just skipped making the tonic soup, but helping herself to it behind my back is downright unethical.
'Mandy actually dares to do this when both Luke and Daniel are away. She clearly did that deliberately.'
Jane carefully replaced the lid on the herbal medicine pot and decided to bring this up with Daniel privately someday.
That day, Jane was busy working in her studio. Suddenly, the receptionist informed her that there was a guest asking for her by name.
Jane had been working at the studio for many days. Typically, clients would review her design portfolio and discuss design concepts with her before choosing to work with her.
For the first time ever, a client had asked for Jane by name without preparation.
Therefore, Jane attached great importance to this. She specially brought her portfolio and straightened her clothes before heading to the meeting room.
To her surprise, as soon as she opened the door, she saw Ella lounging provocatively on the chair. In the dead of winter, Ella only wore a body-hugging minidress under a gaudy fur coat, looking every bit the glamorous drama queen.
Ella complained, "Jane, you're finally here. I have to say the service here is really disappointing. I've been waiting for a long time, but no one even offered me a drink.
"If it weren't for our family ties, I wouldn't throw you some business and stay for so long."
"Ella, how did you find my workplace?" Jane's expression darkened instantly.
She thought, 'Unbelievable. I didn't even go looking for Ella. How dare she show up here on her own?'
