Jane frowned and said, "What kind of stupid question is that?
"That ring was mine. Taking back what's rightfully mine is only natural. You and your mother stole it from me and claimed it as your own. That's both outrageous and illegal.
"Ella, I've been too busy lately to argue with you, but once I'm free, I'll come to the Judd residence and ask you to pay back everything you owe me."
Jane thought, 'Once Mom's surgery is taken care of, I will have nothing left to worry about. By then, even if I have to turn the Judd family upside down, I'll make them cough up everything they've stolen from me.'
Ella snapped, "Are you out of your mind? I am your customer."
Ella felt a pang of panic under Jane's piercing, glistening gaze.
Ella sprang up from her chair and said, "Forget it. I'm done looking. These are all just cheap knockoffs, not even worth my attention. If I want real jewelry, I'd better go to a proper store. What a dump is here."
Wrapped in her fur coat, Ella fled while cursing under her breath.
Just then, Josie walked back in. She said, "Jane, was that Ella just now? I didn't see wrong, did I? Well, hurry and go after her. You should have stopped her and made her give back what she stole from you."
"Let it go, Josie. Don't chase after her." Jane stopped Josie.
Jane explained, "This is your studio. Having a public argument at the entrance would be bad for its reputation. And..."
Her gaze remained steely as she watched Ella's figure vanish into the elevator.
She continued, "Right now, my mom's surgery is the top priority. Everything else can wait until it's over. Let's just ignore them for the time being."
Jane couldn't bring herself to tell Josie about the deal she had made with Luke and the unspoken rules she had to follow, either.
Anyway, until her mother's surgery was successful, Jane would just consider the 60 thousand dollars and the ring as temporarily stored at the Judd residence.
Meanwhile, the moment Ella stepped out of the studio, she called Lily.
Ella said, "Mom, I just ran into Jane. I'm sure she doesn't know about the ring."
Anxiously, Ella recounted to Lily all her repeated attempts to test Jane. "If Jane knew that ring was connected to Luke, she wouldn't have answered me like that, or let me leave so easily.
"Plus, I watched her closely. She didn't seem to realize I knew Luke because of that night at Night Charm Club. Mom, I'm sure Jane doesn't know Luke was the man at the club that night."
"Really? That's great. Now we can feel at ease," Lily exclaimed.
"Even so, I'm so mad about it," Ella pouted.
Her eyes burned with venom as she spat, "Just thinking about that bitch Jane and whatever shameless tricks she used to cling to Luke makes my blood boil.
"Mom, she's such a cheap slut. What if she keeps pestering Luke and tries to steal him from me?"
"She wouldn't dare," Lily sneered.
She continued, "Ella, don't worry. I have everything under control. Since neither Luke nor Jane knows the truth, all we need is one final push, and Luke will marry you right away.
"Once you become officially recognized as Mrs. Drake, dealing with Jane will be as easy as snapping your fingers."
Ella's eyes flickered with hesitation. "But is this really wise? What if Luke discovers it? I would lose all the wealth and status I've struggled to obtain. Maybe we should go with something safer instead."
Lily raised her voice. "You just don't know it."
She added, "This is the foolproof way. Mr. Samuel Drake values heirs above all else. Just listen to me. Only this way can you guarantee your place in the Drake family. But before that, there's still one more thing we need to do."
"What is it?" Ella asked curiously.
Lily lowered her voice and oozed malice. "To cut off any chance of Jane ever stealing Luke from you once she learns the truth."
She added, "Don't worry, sweetheart. I will handle everything. Let me personally deliver Jane a little gift. I guarantee I'll ruin her reputation thoroughly, and she'll be too ashamed to ever show up around Luke again."
