Jane was caught off guard. She tried to protest, but a familiar cold breath blocked off her lips.
The fierce and possessive kiss crashed onto her lips, stealing her trembling breath.
The familiar scent of winter pine laced with tobacco was someone's signature masculine scent.
Jane's heart fluttered. She thought, 'It's Luke. When did he come back?'
Her damp eyes flew wide in terror as Luke's cold, familiar face loomed inches from hers.
For a moment, Jane felt as if she might be completely devoured by him.
She even felt that Luke was unusually aggressive tonight. Even his kiss carried a punitive edge. Her lips tingled from his roughness, and even the tip of her tongue throbbed faintly.
Finally, the kiss ended. Luke locked his arm around her waist, pinning her against the foyer wall behind the door.
"Jane, you finally came back," Luke said coldly.
His tone gave nothing away, whether it was mocking, accusatory, or simply stating a fact.
Jane stammered, "Sorry, Mr. Drake. I-I didn't know you'd be back tonight, so I went out for barbecue with friends after work."
The strong aroma of barbecue clung to her clothes, so there was no way she could hide the fact. Thus, Jane drew a deep breath and told the truth.
"Barbecue with friends? Who?" Luke asked.
"Just my colleagues." Jane shut her eyes briefly, and her lashes fluttered as she forced the words out despite the fear twisting inside her. Still, she chose honesty. After all, only the truth could give her peace of mind.
To her surprise, Luke lifted her chin with a cold smirk. "Really?"
He continued, "Since when did the heir of the Pace Group become your colleague? Why give me that shocked look? Don't tell me you got into Mr. Pace's car alone without intending to seduce him."
"Seduce him? What are you— Wait, you had someone follow me?" Jane suddenly opened her eyes wide. A flash of hurt and anger flickered across them.
She thought, 'He even investigated Warren's identity.'
Luke looked down at her and said coldly, "You're just an item I purchased. Why shouldn't I keep my property under surveillance?"
He noticed nothing wrong with it, and his tone was laced with chilling indifference.
"You..." Jane's mind reeled in shock.
She said, "Luke, you've gone too far. Yes, I was sold to you, but I still have freedom. How dare you have me followed? Who I ate with, whose car I took home, none of that concerns you. You have no right to control me—"
Her protest was abruptly cut off as Luke clamped around her chin, forcing her mouth shut.
His long fingers pressed into the soft flesh of her cheeks.
Luke said, "'I have no right to control you'? Jane, don't forget that from head to toe, even a single strand of your hair belongs to me."
"No. That's not true. Don't touch me." Jane suddenly flared up, slapping his hand away.
She shouted, "Don't you dare touch me!"
She lifted her tear-filled eyes and glared at him. Her eyes were red with anger.
Luke didn't miss the flash of panic and fury in Jane's eyes, nor the deep-seated loathing and terror directed at him.
That fear in Jane's eyes stabbed Luke to the core. He narrowed his eyes with a dangerous glint flickering within.
Right now, all he wanted was to clip her wings with his own hands and make her submit completely.
He wouldn't let Jane do it her way. Since she didn't want him to touch her, he would touch her whenever he pleased and make sure she was forever trapped in his cage.
Before Jane could react, she heard the unmistakable sound of fabric tearing. Her faded blouse was mercilessly torn apart by Luke.
His icy, familiar scent enveloped her completely.
With fear and disbelief in her eyes, Jane felt Luke pin her wrists against the wall behind her. Right there, just behind the front door, he pressed in.
Jane cried out, "No..."
However, Luke's intense presence overwhelmed her. She couldn't scream or push him away.
Utterly helpless, she could only endure his onslaught, fiercer and more aggressive than ever.
Jane couldn't sleep a wink that night. She had lost all sense of time. It wasn't until the first pale light of dawn crept through the window that Luke finally let her go.
