Ella immediately sensed the coldness in Luke's tone. Yet she didn't realize that it was her insatiable demands that had provoked Luke's disgust. Instead, she was convinced that Luke's coldness was all because of Jane.
After all, Jane was notoriously shameless, always throwing herself at men. 'I know she will seduce Luke with those cheap bedroom tricks,' she thought.
"Alright then, I'll visit Mrs. Drake more often these days. She told me she really enjoys my company and we get along splendidly."
Ella deliberately mentioned Luke's mother, hoping to create a favorable impression—or at least make him see her as thoughtful and filial, someone who could win elders' affection.
Unfortunately, Ella couldn't see the cold expression on Luke's face on the other end of the line. Otherwise, the icy chill in Luke's deep, narrow eyes would have left her too terrified to speak.
After the call ended, the impulsive Harvey couldn't contain himself and blurted out, "Mr. Drake, don't be fooled. These pastries weren't made by Ms. Judd—they're from Pretty Sweets's head chef. I can tell at a glance!"
Thinking Luke hadn't noticed the deception, Harvey spoke up indignantly.
Hayden, standing nearby, whispered, "Harvey, you don't need to point that out. Mr. Drake already knew."
Harvey's eyes narrowed. 'Is that so?' He remained skeptical and anxiously turned to Luke for confirmation. Harvey's eyes widened as he saw the pastries Luke had just called "exquisite" now lying in the trash, tossed there by Luke without hesitation.
Harvey was shocked. 'So, Mr. Drake had known all along,' Harvey finally realized it. 'So that's why Mr. Drake hadn't exposed her—because he didn't want to be bothered by Ms. Judd's pestering.'
But he still couldn't hold back from asking, "Mr. Drake, since you already know about Ms. Judd's questionable character, are we still going to award the Electronic Drake contract to the Judd Group?
"I heard from our team that their quote is twice the market rate—they're taking advantage of us."
Just thinking about this made Harvey regret ever standing up for Ella in the first place.
He didn't like Jane because of her messy personal life, but at least, since Jane was taken into Drake Manor, Harvey had heard from Hayden that she hadn't caused any trouble.
Unlike Ella, just because she once saved Luke, she acted like she could ask for anything she wanted. 'Now she dares to abuse her power for personal gain and line her own pockets.' Harvey thought angrily.
Luke ordered, "Inform the team we can proceed with the Judd Group on this deal. Send the Judds the right cost quote, and make it clear that Electronic Drake won't pay a penny more.
"If they refuse, terminate the deal—there are plenty of companies lining up to work with Electronic Drake."
Luke kept his word to Ella and agreed to award the contract to the Judd Group. He's only honoring that night's debt of gratitude.
But first and foremost, Luke was a ruthless businessman—he would never tolerate the Judd family's rapacious demands, let alone give them special treatment.
Given the vast disparity in company size, Drake Group wouldn't even have the Judd Group on their radar, let alone consider a partnership. A company like the Judd Group wouldn't even make it past the preliminary screening for cooperation.
That Luke even allowed the Judd Group to qualify was the utmost concession he was willing to make.
"Yes, Mr. Drake. Your word is all we need. I'll relay this to the team immediately." Hearing this, Harvey finally cracked a small smile. He had genuinely feared that Luke might bend the rules for Ella.
'Looks like Mr. Drake doesn't care about Ms. Judd after all,' he thought.
On the other end, Ella's face twisted in fury as the phone was hung up.
"So, how did it go, honey? What did Mr. Drake say? Did he agree to let the Judd Group secure Electronic Drake's contract?" Lily asked.
