Jane asked politely, "Is there anything else, Hayden?"
Hayden hesitated for a few seconds before speaking, "Regarding the case, Mr. Drake genuinely didn't know Ella was involved behind the scenes. He ordered a thorough investigation, so everyone connected to the case was detained without bail.
"When Ella got into trouble and asked Mr. Drake to pull some strings to get her out, it was my brother Harvey who handled it. He wasn't aware of the details, and only after arranging her release did he realize it was connected to you."
Hayden wasn't sure if Luke had ever explained all this to Jane. From what he knew about Luke, with his aloof and indifferent nature, he would probably consider explanations beneath him. So Hayden thought he should explain things clearly on Luke's behalf.
Hayden explained, "So it wasn't Mr. Drake who got Ella out at all—it was my brother Harvey. Mr. Drake had instructed Harvey to look after her, so that's why he—"
"Even if Mr. Drake didn't personally order Ella's release, he still bears responsibility for this, doesn't he?" Jane pressed. "If he hadn't told your brother Harvey to look after her, would she have ever gotten out in the first place?"
Then, Jane seemed to let out a soft, self-deprecating laugh. "But really, what's it to me? Ella's already gotten away scot-free.
"Hayden, you really don't have to explain all this to me. If anyone knows my situation, it's you. I'm just someone Mr. Drake bought and keeps around—whatever you all say goes. My opinion doesn't matter at all." Jane said politely before hanging up.
Hayden stared at his phone screen, his brows knitting as the call abruptly ended. He knew he might have said too much. Hayden couldn't shake the feeling that there was something different between Luke and Jane. He couldn't help wanting to explain a bit more.
No sooner had Jane hung up than her studio assistant called. A few days ago, a new client visited their studio. After seeing Jane's designs, she was thoroughly impressed. She specifically requested that Jane design a full jewelry set for her.
Commissioning full jewelry sets was exclusively reserved for our top-tier clients. Moreover, the client, a poised woman in her forties, exuded quiet elegance with her impeccable fashion sense—clearly a high-potential client worth cultivating.
Since joining the studio, Jane had been stuck with small gigs or just helping out on other people's projects. This could be the first time she handled such a major commission all by herself. Jane took this client very seriously and personally handled every detail.
Just moments ago, Jane's assistant called to let her know that the client had come by the studio again. The other party hoped Jane could come over—she wanted to discuss some final design revisions with her in person.
Jane glanced at her watch—it was only 11 in the morning. She still had several hours left. Without hesitation, Jane grabbed her design portfolio and hurried to the studio, planning to meet the client first before heading to the hospital.
But as luck would have it, just as Jane arrived at the studio, the client had to leave abruptly for an urgent matter.
"The client said she has to meet an important client right now. Please deliver the design drafts to this address when you arrive—she'll discuss them with you in person after her meeting." The assistant handed Jane a slip of paper.
Jane took the note and saw it was the address of a private club. The client's wish was final. Since the client was that poised and elegant woman, Jane didn't hesitate. She immediately hailed a cab and headed straight to the address.
Soon after, Jane arrived outside the upscale club named 'Crystal Palace'.
