Meanwhile, at the hospital, Luke stood in the hospital corridor, his expression cold and distant, an unlit cigarette between his fingers.
Just then, Hayden hurried down the hallway, heading straight for Luke. "Mr. Drake."
"Is Jane finally here?" Luke turned, his usually impassive eyes flickering with a barely perceptible ripple.
"Sorry, Mr. Drake. I still can't reach Ms. Ritter at the moment," Hayden said hesitantly. He knew Luke hated unpunctual people more than anything.
Jane had promised to come this afternoon to help Luke pick up Dwight from the hospital. Now that Dwight's discharge procedures were almost complete and Jane was still nowhere to be seen.
"Can't reach her? Didn't you inform her she was supposed to come this afternoon?" Luke's cold eyes darkened, his already icy expression turning even more forbidding.
Hayden hurried to explain, "No, Mr. Drake, I informed Ms. Ritter first thing this morning. She agreed without any hesitation and seemed quite willing. I don't know why she's not answering her phone now. Perhaps something really did come up."
Luke's lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. "Hah. 'Something came up,' huh?" he sneered. "More likely she's just taking advantage of my grandfather's influence to throw a tantrum."
Ever since the Ella incident, things between Luke and Jane had been hanging by a thread. That night, Luke saw her step out of some other guy's car, lit up for that man with that dazzling smile.
It made his blood boil. There was this indescribable, choking rage simmering in his chest. After that, he deliberately gave Jane the cold shoulder—even stayed away from the apartment for over a week.
Luke thought Jane would come crawling back to please him, just like all those other women. But to his surprise, she was perfectly content on her own, living it up.
He thought maybe he'd let her off the leash too long—now her wings had grown. "Track Jane's phone location. Find out where she is right now. Once you locate her, bring her to me immediately.
"Tell her this: whatever she wants, name her price and I'll pay it. But if she dares to mess up this act in front of grandpa, I will make sure she lives to regret it."
Jane's lateness had pushed Luke's anger to the limit. In his eyes, her last-minute no-show was nothing but a ploy to play hard to get—her greedy nature laid bare. Luke's brows furrowed deeply, a ruthless chill sweeping through him.
He should have known Jane was this kind of woman. He now regretted having ever expected anything different from someone like her.
"Yes, sir!" Hayden didn't dare delay and immediately set out to track Jane's phone location.
For the powerful Drake family, such a task was child's play. But when Hayden tracked down Jane's exact phone location, he froze in shock, unable to believe his eyes.
Hayden didn't dare make the call himself, nor was it wise to barge in with a team. After a moment's hesitation, he turned back. "Mr. Drake."
Luke turned with an icy glare. "Did you find her?"
"N-no..." Hayden's scalp prickled with tension as he bowed his head, handing his phone to Luke so he could see the location.
Still not daring to meet Luke's eyes, he reported in a strained voice, "I've located Ms. Ritter's phone signal here, but I wasn't sure how to proceed, so I came back for your instructions."
Luke snatched the phone from Hayden, his frigid eyes flashing with a dangerous glint as they locked onto the location coordinates. It was Crystal Palace.
