                    : OUR GENES
The school bus finally rolls into a parking space right beside the museum and I'm nervous as hell.
I'm on the brink of a breakdown with slight symptoms of hypoxia from all the heavy breathing I've been doing since I left school.
I'm desperately trying to remain calm and remind myself what's at stake, but the first major crime is never really easy.
It's either this, or be exposed as a fraud, followed by detention in another prison, however.
"Remember the plan." The wizard speaks from his reflection staring at me from the window by my side.
Since I had agreed to this scheme, he's stuck to my side more often than previous days where it was a rarity to see his face.
I assume he's more invested in me now since he's about to get what he wants from me and honestly, I hope to be rid of him finally after today.
"The plan revolved solely on Silas showing up and if you haven't noticed yet... he's not anywhere to be seen." I point out harshly while whispering.
"He will." He says ominously without much of an explanation and vanishes on me.
I let out a frustrated breath.
My conscience and gut are screaming at me not to go along with this while I chicken out at the last minute, but I doubt I have a choice anymore at this stage.
I'm already in the museum with a copy of the artifact in my pocket.
I had already agreed, from the first moment of the deal, I had agreed to do anything possible to change my fate and it's time to put my money where my mouth js.
I gulp down all that anxiety and wipe my sweaty palms over my jeans, squaring my shoulders to seem more confident
I step down with the rest of the student body that had signed up to explore the walls of history of the Bloodmoon Legacy.
Personally, I find it egotistical to have a whole museum building dedicated to one's family history even though its tied to the history of Bloodmoon pack, but it's not my business to judge.
All while we gather into a small group to be led by a guide, my eyes search desperately for Silas.
He hadn't joined us on the bus ride, nor shown up in his car which I assume would've been his plan.
The tour was starting and he hadn't shown his face yet.
Okay... now the full blown panic sets in.
I try my best to follow the moving crowd while constantly looking at new faces, hoping it him, blowing warm air into my frozen fingertips and calmly reciting to myself that it's fine.
I'm okay.
Thirty minutes into it, however, my calm composure is already starting to crumble.
I decide to take a pause while the group keeps moving on, by a water dispenser. I grab a disposable cup and take a cup full, downing it quickly in seconds and sighing with relief once it's down.
My dried throat from anxiety feels a whole lot better and my nerves feel just a bit relaxed, so I think of plan
B.
Essentially, the necklace should be stored in some kind of vault, right? I just need to find where it is first and gauge a plan from there.
So, I give myself a personal tour even if I haven't been here before. Pretending to look at some artifacts and paintings while searching for the necklace.
It's a good plan till I realize I don't know where I am anymore.
I stop by one painting, however, noting the very uncanny resemblance to Silas, even being of the opposite gender.
Piercing grey eyes that seem almost alive form the old paint work with soft yet equally sharp features of a woman who looks regal in her own way.
I assume she was a gorgeous woman in her own time.
While I gauge the painting, half forgetting the plan I had concocted, a hand unexpectedly falls on my shoulder and I lose my shit, screaming and jumping forward.
Strong hands quickly fall onto my lips, shutting them before they can grab too much attention and holding me in place before I bump into anything.
From the warmth that courses through my body and his smell, I know it's Silas and look up at him.
"Shhh." He shushes me, looking round once more to make sure no one is looking our way.
The hall we're in is surprisingly empty though.
Once he's sure, he slowly lets go of me, creating more distance between us.
"Silas..." I say, feeling too relieved that he's here, then followed by annoyance that he was late. "Where were you?" I ask, frowning now.
He shrugs, simply smiling a bit too friendly and looks back at the picture I've been staring at.
"I see you've found my great grandmother." He says in a whisper.
I still don't understand why we need to be quiet, but I play along.
"Seems like your genes are strong." I whisper back, noting how the features are never watered down going down the family tree up to his father and himself.
He frowns at the painting before looking down at me.
"I hope not... I want our kids to look like you." He jokes. He looks at me with those mesmerizing eyes again, seeking to confuse me and pull me into them but I force my eyes away despite the swooning in my heart.
I won't fall for any of it.
"I'm sure your mate would think otherwise." I say coldly, looking away immediately.
I don't see his reaction, but he says nothing more, remaining silent.
I'm thinking, yeah, I finally silenced him because he knows the truth, when suddenly, he takes my hand in his without permission and begins pulling me in the other direction.
I look up at him, wanting to struggle or protest but I decide against it, instead I just follow him to wherever. He did say he wanted to show me something, so let's get that out of the way.
I follow him towards the direction he leads me to without conflict. I'm simply just relieved he's here... so the plan can move forward.
We walk for a while, finally stopping at a dark corner with a bare plain wall.
"This is a blind spot, so you don't need to worry about the cameras." He points out casually. Wait, there are cameras?
I had been snooping around like an obvious crime suspect earlier when there had been cameras watching.
Before I can ask, he places his hand against the empty wall once he's confirmed again that there's still no one around.
The section his hand touches sinks in deeper and the entire wall space begins sliding aside, slowly revealing a hidden passage.
It all seems straight out of a spy movie and my jaw drops lower.
"What the..."
He pulls me into it before my lips complete the statement and the wall closes swiftly behind us.
Up ahead is a flight of steep spiraling stairwell going down a considerable depth.
The hidden passage is lit by some bulbs, so it's not as dark as it should be.
"C'mon on." He says, gently tugging me along with him.
I nod, following closely behind again without protest, trusting I'm not being taken to some secret hide out to be murdered.
We walk down till we reach a single door and once he pulls it open and my eyes adjust to the sudden burst of bright sunlight, I gasp in awe, letting my jaw drop again. We walk right into this vast indoor garden space. The walls are extremely tall and the ceiling is made of clear glass that lets the sun's rays shine through them. The rays falling right into this large glistening fountain right at the center of the room with flowing waters, perfectly reflecting the light. Beautiful flowers are littered everywhere in patterns. It feels like we've stumbled into Narnia all of a sudden.
"Holy shit." I say, taking in all this unearthly beauty with my eyes.
If I see a fucking sprite run by right now, I won't be surprised.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" He points out, standing right next to me
It's more than just beautiful. It's amazing and mesmerizing.
There's an untamed beauty to it with flowers of different kinds I've never seen before, vines and vegetation running free with butterflies casually flying by.
"What is this place?" I ask, looking at him now.
"Well... it's a very important place restricted to only the heirs of Bloodmoon."
I turn to him swiftly, hearing that last part.
"You mean yourself and your dad?" "Yes. He lets my mother in most times though... They have picnics in here."
I'm more shocked by the fact that King Darius goes on picnics with his wife than by the fact that he's brought me to a restricted area.
"I wanted you to see it as well." I'm confused.
"Why? Why would you show me all this? Do you take
Elena here as well?"
"No... she doesn't know this place even exists. It's just you." "Silas..?" All this is getting more confusing by the minute.
"You're that important to me, Freya... I mean it."
He says with sincerity but I still can't believe it. His sincerity means nothing when his future's already set with someone else.
I remind myself of my plan that's more important than all this. I need to bring up the necklace to him now.
"Silas..."
"There's something else I want to show you." He jumps in again, moving over to the fountain. I sigh, knowing he wants to show me something else to tug at my heart but right now, nothing else is more important other than the necklace.
I fiddle with the fake one in my pocket just to be sure it's still there.
"Silas, can we just go back... I don't want to do this right now." I say, stepping closer to him. He says nothing, suddenly squatting right by the fountain and fiddling with something I can't see from where I am, so I move in closer.
I think for a moment he's doing another trick till he suddenly pulls out a wooden box that doesn't look a century old even though it should. "Yes! That's it... there it is."
The wizard's reflection bubbles up suddenly in the reflective water, cheering excitedly with his eyes fixed to the wooden box pulled from a secret location.
It takes a lot not to scream in fright from the way he suddenly pops up and alarm Silas in the process. My heart pulses faster, knowing just what exactly is in it from the Wizard's reaction.
Silas slowly stands up, handling it with care before he pulls it open, revealing the glittery ruby necklace. It looks exactly like the one hidden in my pocket... the only difference is the unnatural pulsating red glow emanating from the red gemstone right in the center of the pendant.
It seems alive and breathing, seeing it up close while giving off a mysterious aura.
I gasp, feeling a sudden rush go up my spine, leaving goose bumps in its wake.
"This belongs to the Alpha king... now my father and soon, me." He explains, showing the beautiful piece right in front of me, giving me the chance to really look at it.
It's beauty alone is hypnotic and I reach out, slightly to graze the beautiful stone that feels warm to the touch
"Take it... take it!" The wizard yells impatiently loud in my mind, coaxing me to make the switch... but I can't while Silas is still watching me.
"Do you want to wear it?" He asks suddenly.
"What?"
"Do you want to wear it?" He asks again. I watch his features to find a shred of deceit in them and his eyes remain as they had since we met today.
Honest and sincere while he places it right in the palm of my hands.
