                    : FINALLY
SILAS' POV:
Before I can head back to my room, I make my way to the girl's dorm, minutes after I'm sure Freya's made it to her room.
Part of my way of showing to her just how invested I am in making this work, I plan on keeping all my promises and that includes putting an end to this betrothal to Elena and facing all repercussions that may arise from my father's part for disobedience.
All the while making sure that she'd be safe.
Never had I once thought, from the first day running into her in those hallways, that I'd be here wishing to be next to her with every passing moment.
For this reason, I walk into Elena's empty room easily once I'm sure half the dorm is fast asleep.
The fact that her roommate is still suspended makes it even easier to remain undetected till she shows up.
I'm sitting casually on her bed once she finally arrives minutes later and the door pulls open.
Elena steps in, clad in her white bathrobe, humming to herself while bobbing her shoulders to an imaginary rhythm playing in her mind.
It takes a while for her to notice me when she walks in, before she looks up at her bed and sees me.
"What the fuck? Geez! You nearly gave me a heart attack." She says after jumping in fright for a mini second
"Not so fun when you're on the other side, is it?" I say casually.
She takes her time, calming her breathing and her radically pulsing heart before she stands still again.
She remains surprised but not displeased in the slightest by my intrusion.
"Well, this is a first you sneaking into my room. Are you finally here to give into your urges?" she asks now, flashing a sly smile that implies much more.
She sashays closer to the bed seductively and gently drops right next to me, crossing her legs.
She deliberately lets the towel rise higher to show off the skin of her thigh and drops a hand on mine.
"Have you finally come to your senses?" She whispers, leaning closer to me.
Her eyes rake over me in an up-down motion before she bites on her lower lip.
Unaffected by her little act, I lean further away, taking her hands off my lap and carefully place it back onto hers.
"Sorry to disappoint you but it's nothing along those lines." I say coldly, already getting the hint she's trying to drop.
Her smile drops, switching to a frown from disappointment.
Annoyed and fed up, she rises to her feet, moving over to her dresser infront of her mirror and sitting on a little cushion stool.
She pulls down the micro fabric towel wrapped around her damp hair, letting it fall down to her shoulders.
"If it's not that, then what brings you here? I take it you're also not here to spend some time with your future mate." She says with annoyance in her tone as she combs through her wet hair while blow drying it with the other hand.
Trying a bit too hard to say I'm not her priority anymore through her actions.
Then again, I really do not care about all this.
"Ex-mate." I correct her.
She scoffs while half focusing on drying her hair.
"Are you still going on about that? No matter how much you dislike me, Silas, I am a thorn in your side you cannot get rid of." She explains, matter of factly.
It's obvious she's grown used to my indifference towards her because regardless of it, she still chooses to thrive.
In a different situation, an alternate universe, she might have been a good example of a committed and driven comrade, but in this one, not.
"Actually, that's the reason I'm here."
I finally pull out the rolled up document hidden behind me this entire time, unwrapping it and placing it on the bed.
She looks over to me, turning off her blow dryer once her attention is finally seized by it, staring at the paper like it's an anomaly with her curious eyes.
"What's that?"
"It's a contract I need you to sign." I simply provide.
Her eyes move to me now with a raised questioning brow.
"You're cute, but I don't give away my signatures randomly." She deadpans, staring.
"This is a clause that would force an era of peace between both our families without the need of marriage. Essentially, you and I won't need to be trapped in this forced bond any longer." I explain.
Her face morphs quickly into something else - confusion, disbelief and then settled for a look of defiance.
Of course, I had not expected her to give her signature easily, but I need to persuade her into letting the engagement go, for both our mental health.
"Do you really want to get out of being with me that badly?" She says as calmly as she can, biting down her lip and taking in slow and deep inhales.
I graciously give her a while to let the information sink in deeper before I continue.
"You said it yourself; you're as much of a victim as I have been. Plus, I haven't been the best partner for years and trust me, I won't be in the future either." I point out.
I would make her life a living hell, knowing that it's a prison constructed by my father to keep me in place.
"Bullshit, just call it what it is. I smelt her all over you. This isn't about giving me freedom, it's about that girl." She says with disgust in her voice.
"Freya." I correct her sternly, feeling my wolf getting ticked off already.
"Yeah, whatever." She rolls her eyes, turning back to her reflection.
She seems adamant on keeping this charade despite the obvious flaws visible to anyone and everyone.
I still don't understand why she clings so tightly to this already sunken ship of a relationship. "I'm giving you a chance to be free." I push.
The freedom she had been denied for years would finally be hers.
"Well, that should have been a choice for me as well, shouldn't it? Yet again, decisions on if I want to be bonded or freed are not mine to make but only for the men in my life to."
"After this, you get to make your own choices, one that won't make me a prisoner to anyone." She laughs painfully, dropping everything to look at me, squared and seriously. Every hint of playfulness leaks out, replaced by darkness.
Her eyes are filled with rage, yet her lips smile sweetly, chuckling like I've made a joke she can't take seriously.
"Wow, the arrogant asshole really has softened for a girl... I never thought I'd see the day someone would make you into a person that yields to a woman. I hope she's worth it, hopefully she doesn't crack under the pressure of being tied to you."
"Elena..." My anger rises again. "You are a menace, Silas...and it always has a way of affecting every woman you've been with me, those girls you played around with, even Freya. I hope you realize that running away won't make you happy!" She raises her voice, only growing more hysterical.
I sigh.
I had expected this much, but it's still tiring to deal with. Once I look at her again, I stare into her eyes, warning her clearly.
This had never been a deal we were meant to strike or an agreement. It was never a request.
"I'll only let this slide because I need this favor from you." I say calmly.
She recoils back, flinching away and finally getting the message from me.
She rises up to her feet, stomping closer, grabbing the pen in my hand stretched out to her. "You can finally be with her now, just like you've always wanted. I hope you get what you deserve." She says bitterly, but I'm unaffected by the anger and hurt glaring back at me in a blood thirsty rage. Once she's done, she tosses the paper back onto the bed, walking away.
I have what I need now; the signature is there, clear as day that a Crescent Moon had signed it.
I roll it back up and stand to my feet, walking to the door and pulling it open. Before I leave, I decide to give one final act of courtesy towards her. "Thank you." I say, truly meaning it. Somehow, in all this madness, my hatred for her had pushed me into meeting Freya.
"Don't thank me, Silas, this isn't an act of kindness."
She spits bitterly without bothering to look me in the face.
I know it isn't, but I am still grateful.
I close the door behind me, walking away.
I take a few more steps away from her door before I roll open the document again, taking another look at her signature sealing the contract.
Finally.
Finally, years of unnecessary duty to my pack comes to an end and I feel hopeful. The future doesn't seem as gloomy as it has been in the past.
A smile creeps up to my lips unintentionally and still,
I let myself revel in it.
This paper in my hands holds my freedom. As I walk through the hall, I realize I'm a few steps away from Freya's room with Xena, so I walk quietly past their door.
It's not like they can hear me though, but it's an unconscious act I find myself doing before I realize it. Just as I'm passing by, the door swings open and Freya walks out slowly, eyes darting left and right, checking if the coast is clear, eventually turning to me. "Silas? What are you doing here?"
