FREYA'S POV:
"Silas? What are you doing here?"
He pauses on the spot, looking at me with a suddenly startled expression and surprise.
If anyone should be surprised, I should be. He's at the girl's dorm when everyone's getting to bed, tiptoeing right past my room.
I look back towards the direction he's coming from and where he's most likely heading to. Sure enough, he's leaving but where has he been?
"Where are you coming from?" I ask out loud, pondering on it out of curiosity.
"Freya... Okay, I need you to believe me on this. I'm coming from Elena's room but before you start thinking about it; no, we didn't do anything, nothing happened either. It was strictly business." He begins explaining and unfolds the very same document I had seen hours earlier.
"See? I just needed her to sign it and make it official. I was straight with her and left immediately after the conversation was over."
"Silas, relax." I say, calm once he begins filling in so much info that's not really needed.
He calms down, finally being silent.
"I believe you. You did nothing there and you simply went to get the agreement sealed."
His tensed shoulders drop but he stares at me still in disbelief, shaking his head.
"Wait... you believe me? Just like that?"
"Yeah... Do you not want to be believed?" With all the explaining, I assumed he did.
"No, I do. Just... didn't think you would, especially after my history."
His history with lying he means.
He's right.
He does have an infamous history that precedes him well, but if I'd learnt anything over time, it's that people don't deserve to be judged based on their pasts.
I had been doing so much of that and pushed away so many people I loved.
"I don't want to hold that over you anymore. We're doing this whole new trust thing, right?"
"Yeah, we are."
Confusion and worry melts from his eyes till he's finally fully relieved from both of them.
He looks down at me with a soft smile I haven't had the chance to really enjoy watching in a while.
How much I had missed just looking into his silver eyes, and having to fight half myself from staring too long and forcing myself not to crave those supple lips of his that tasted the sweetest?
He chuckles, and I quickly realize that no one's said anything for seconds and I've been blatantly staring at his lips for a while.
I compose myself again, clearing my throat and breaking eye contact from his lips, so I can focus.
"So... where are you headed to?" I ask.
He smiles at my reaction and my attempt to play it off.
"Well, I was heading back to my room now that I've gotten what I needed."
"Oh... that's nice."
I say, still avoiding his gaze and trying to appear unaffected.
"What about you...? Shouldn't you be in bed?"
"About that..."
"Can't sleep?"
I look up at him now, wondering how to respond to the question.
Should I tell him or not.
I follow him out of the dorm, never looking back once.
The initial fear I had had in earlier days about keeping to school rules and being where we're meant to be died a long time ago, and I don't mind where we would be going to, be it a volcano, as long as he's there.
Because I do not know when all this could possibly end.
Based on the wizard's threat, I only had a week. One week before everything I've built, every relationship I've made, every memory would be thrown into fira and burnt to ashes.
One week till the magic runs out and my one, I into a pumpkin.
I would do anything to make every moment left last longer but it was either this or betray Silas, and I couldn't do that, not to him.
Even if he broke my heart a thousand times, I could never hate him.
While we walk side by side, I take in every bit of the moment like it's a precious gift no one else could offer again; the cool night, the soft scent of nature around me and the magical array of bright stars littered in the dark sky with fluffy white clouds.
I take a deep breath, taking all of it in, throwing all my worries away with the wind,
"The sky is so pretty." I say.
"It is, isn't it! I've been out here so many times and I have never really stopped to look up at it like this." He muses, looking up at it.
Even with the dim natural light of the moon reflecting off his skin and shiny black hair, he looks perfect.
"When's your birthday?" I ask.
"2nd of April, why do you ask?"
"I realize we've been through so much together, good and bad, and I don't even know when your birthday is."
It's weird how the smallest of information eludes you. Regardless, I save the date in my mind to never forget it.
"That's true." He agrees. "When's yours?"
"Hmm..."
"Wait, are you thinking about it?"
"It's not something that comes easily... The 22nd."
"Which month?"
"August." I say, remembering it fully.
My parents had called it the worst day of their life for the past 17 years. That alone had helped in the memorizing process, but not very effectively. "Oh, that's... Wait, did you say the 22nd of August?"
"Yeah."
"Isn't that, like, exactly a week from now?"
"Is it?" I frown. "Hey, don't blame me. I lost the sense of time while I was locked up."
"Still, it's your birthday."
I force a smile, looking away. I had never truly understood the hype behind putting in so much effort to celebrate that one day as though it was special or something.
"It's not a big deal." I mutter.
It never had been and I made extra effort not to make it into one over the years.
After years of shattered hope from wanting some form of love or recognition on one particular day, I began to see the true foolishness behind it.
He slides his hands into mine while my mind is occupied. The action alone draws all my attention back to him faster and I'm forced to look up at him again. "It's a big deal to me though. It's the most special day of the year, don't you think?"
The intensity of his gaze holds me for a while, pulling me like a moth to a flame. The stressful thoughts suddenly don't feel like anything worth my worry.
"You're very cheesy, you know that?" He chuckles at my comment.
A few minutes more and we're right outside the doors of his dorm. I'm saddened by the thought of being separated too soon now. I feel like a clingy baby to its mom.
He notices my sudden mood swing. "Do you want to keep walking?" "No, my feet are starting to hurt." Damn these baloney omega ankles.
"I can carry you back to your room." He offers.
"No... I want to see your room."
My new request takes both of us by surprise because it hadn't even been processed as a thought properly before escaping through my lips.
His taken-aback expression morphs into a smirk even faster.
"You sure?"
"Get your mind out of the gutters... I just want to see what it looks like. Adam said you had a whole room to yourself, which isn't entirely fair."
"I'm the Alpha prince." He replies smugly, raising his already high shoulder even more.
"Whatever, just let's go."
Everything smells like him. That's the first thing I notice walking in. Followed by the bountiful space everywhere with the same typical dorm room design.
"I like your room." I say, dropping onto the soft comfy bed and falling backwards onto my back.
It's so soft that I could fall asleep instantly. "This is the first time that I'm nervous having anyone in my room." He jokes.
I pat on the space beside me, gesturing to him to occupy it and he does in seconds, dropping right next to me and staring up at the plain dark brown ceiling.
Comfortable silence falls all round us.
It's a tranquil and peaceful moment with the both of us just enjoying having the other one next to the other.
I wish this moment could last forever.
I feel his hands wrap around mine and his addictive gaze on me. The urge to look up at him takes over and suddenly, we're staring face to face again. "Can I kiss you?" He asks softly underneath his breath.
I'm too caught up in a trance to refuse him... to say no.
I lean forward too quickly and take his lips for myself without a second thought.
